Ugh, yeah, breaking controllers sucks. It's hard to break Nintendo controllers, but it happens (I managed to kill a mockingWavebird and an N64 controller). Third-party controllers, on the other hand... I've had several of them just randomly break during gameplay. Didn't abuse them or anything, they'd just stop responding or the joystick would break. Careful what you buy!

I actually had one controller for N64... it had "The Rock" written on it. It had a bigger joystick radius than normal controllers, which let you run a bit faster in some games, but confused the hell out of others. Also, the wires would randomly short, temporarily freezing the game until you got up and poked at it.

Actually, most BIOS dumps I've seen are done using some hole on the system itself. GBA's BIOS could only be read by code within itself, but one of the functions that reads from a table didn't check the index, so it could be made to read from any address. DS used a similar protection for the ARM7 BIOS (the ARM9's is, strangely enough, not protected ), and this can be defeated by jumping to a few bytes in the BIOS which just happen to be the instructions to read from a given address and return.

Generally when I get code that was written for MSVC6, not even MSVC6 is able to compile it. For that matter, it struggles with code that works fine in other compilers.

That's pretty cool, but it seems a bit redundant having some of those special characters. I think it's safe to say that the "[End]" character can just be inserted automatically at the end of the text, and why not just "the" instead of "[the]"?

That doesn't always work.

This hack worked for me to get AVG to stop whining about a supposed virus though.

That's one thing you'll find in a lot of video games: Percentages, especially hit percentages, mean different things depending whether the character is human- or AI-controlled. In so many games (especially Pokémon games), a move with 90% accuracy will miss half the time and one with 50% will hit once in a blue moon, but the AI rarely misses with either of them.

Though maybe his birthday will suddenly become last week.

He might change graphics or something though, as he did many times with just about every other timer.

On the off chance I come across an IE-only site, which is quite rare, I do one of two things:
1) Switch my user agent to IE
2) Leave because it looks like a site I wouldn't bother reading even if I did use IE

Well IE still seems to break valid code, so I won't be using this one until they can get that fixed.

The day IE doesn't break/choke on valid code is the day Satan buys a sweater.

Yeah, there's nothing special you have to do to add RAM, but if it's not the right size or speed it won't work. Judging by the age of the computer I'm going to say get a new one.
