You usually can't just copy graphics from one game to another; you have to redraw them using the proper colours. Suppose in SMB3, colour 4* is black; the Goombas would be outlined in colour 4. But in SMW, maybe 4* is blue and 7* is black. This means you need to re-draw the SMB3 Goomba in SMW, using #7 for the outline instead of #4. Sometimes you can get away with a palette change, but in most cases some redrawing is needed. I think LM has a tool to do this.

*Numbers pulled out of thin air.

Well if you use it in a lot of levels, yeah. Or hell, you could tack it on to LevelASM's code itself.

Well, world 1 anyway. You start at the top of this hill; the first level is like Yoshi's House (no real level), the second is an optional "Training Area", then the next 3 are real levels. The plan is to have this in the middle and land all around the edge, with a bridge appearing after you beat the top level.

Basically I just want to know if it's worth proceeding or if I should just re-do it. (One thing that concerns me is size... I'd have put it on a submap, but it's too damn big! ) So here's some screenshots, but keep a few things in mind first:

1) No graphic changes yet. I suck at graphics so don't expect too much, but I do intend to fix the minor things you can see if you look close where I couldn't fit the proper tile in. I'll probably replace that hill on top too, or at least improve it.

2) The level at the top is revealed before it should be, I fixed this after taking the screenshot.

3) I haven't renamed the levels yet.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I had a bit of trouble finding the right tiles at the edges, I'll try to fix that up. You're right about fitting it in a submap though. I forgot I'd shrunk it a bit since last time I tried.

So have I gone completely insane or what?

On the left is a tile in which I drew all 16 colours, left to right, top to bottom. Both LM and Tile Molestor (using a palette extracted from a save state) show colours 0, 1, 8 and 9 as black. In the game, however, they're light brown and there is no black. Yet right next to it is a tile which uses palette 4 and contains black!

[edit] Actually, the palettes just seem to be changing at random. Tiles I didn't even touch are changing colour.

[edit 2] I'm starting to suspect a bug in Tile Molestor. Every tile I so much as copy in it gets messed up. Which is just fucking great, because TLP won't even run and AVG won't even let me try to open YY-CHR.

All you do is copy it pixel by pixel manually, except you choose different colours.

Where, as in what game, or where as in what thread. The game is SMRPG, I don't know the thread.

Heh, one time I was just jumping around in the castle in SM64 and got Mario stuck head-first in the wall.

TLP goes into an infinite loop spouting various errors when I open any file. The palettes themselves don't seem to be changing, rather, the colours the tiles are drawn in. I really have no idea how the image I posted is possible (my guess is either LM or the game is changing the tile's palette number), but there also seems to be a big bug in TM; when I saved, the tiles I'd been editing would have some of their colours switched in LM (blue would be changed to red, and back to blue on the next save, but the actual palettes weren't changing); even if I copied one tile and pasted it somewhere without modifying it, that tile would change colours too.

There's an amazing new breakthrough in holographic laser super-cooled flux capacitor-based storage that stores 400TB per square inch and writes at 16GB/sec every month. I'll be amazed when I can go buy a multi-terabyte hard drive for the cost of a 300GB one now.

Most of the time you'll have to patch into them to have them jump to some free space elsewhere. All you really have to do is replace as many instructions of it as you need with a jump/call, and make sure to execute those instructions somewhere in your new code.

One of the many times my Pokémon Red/Blue saves got erased. I was messing with that Missingno glitch and found a trainer in the wild... he used some glitch attack that never seemed to hit, so I kept fighting until it actually hit. It made an explosion effect, then the game crashed. The next piece of text displayed (after resetting) was something like "Save data has been destroyed". NOOOOOOOO! (I had a legit Mew even. )

I was some 6 years old and sitting in my room playing on Donut Plains 1, the part with the big flying lesson area, when my game locked up. I sat there wondering "hmm, what could possibly be happening" when suddenly the everything glitched. The entire screen was scrambled and the sound of a block breaking played. I freaked out, turned off the game and ran to my parents. It's been imprinted on my memory forever

Heh, Super Mario Bros did similar to me once. Freaked me right out.
