Easy way you could see which folder has the music in it via the command line:
cd wherever\Music
dir /s /b *.mp3

This will list the location of any MP3 file within Music or its subfolders.

But that'd be the same as using the recovery disc. You couldn't just re-install XP without wiping the hard drive. You would be protected if installing something or using the original recovery disc messed things up, but that's it. (Pretty much anyone who uses Windows should know it needs to be reinstalled every now and then for no apparent reason. )

If you can time how long the potions last in each version, I bet I could hack up something to make them last as long on GB as they do on NES.

I especially loved how you provided such clear examples that backed your point when you felt a general line of reasoning wasn't good enough.

Well if we're going to turn this into a debate...
  • The dialogue is awesome. Hilarious at times, but serious where it's needed.
  • Playing as Bowser, Peach, and two new characters is also awesome.
  • The two new characters are awesome as well.
  • The music is FREAKING SWEET, especially for SNES. Sound effects are good too. Really sets the mood. I listen to it all the time.
  • Not to mention the graphics.
  • The battle engine is great; just a simple turn-based system with no annoying 'features' like enemies being able to attack you while you're using the menus or attack 82 times in a row. Dodging attacks and timing your own is easy to do but doesn't make the game too easy, and it's possible to survive without doing so.
  • You don't have to spend a week leveling up after each boss.
  • Enemies aren't especially cheap and don't just keep using the same move over and over, unlike in most games. One-hit kill moves are actually rare and blockable.
  • Stats are realistic. You generally max out at about 400-500 HP and up to 99 MP (FP), and enemy attacks (assuming you aren't WAY stronger than them) do anywhere between 30 and 250 damage. The thing I hated most about Paper Mario was its stat system, where you only get up to 50 HP and each attack does between 2 and 35.
  • Level design is great, with large, detailed worlds, a lot of little secrets and side quests, and progressive difficulty is pulled off almost perfectly. Save points are right where you need them nearly all the time. The levels are also very interactive.
  • Being able to see enemies on the world map is just perfect. You can try to sneak by (especially good if you're weak), or go right out and fight. You don't waste time wandering around looking for enemies, you don't get annoying enemy-appears-every-3-steps cases, you can usually avoid getting killed on the way back to the Inn after a big boss battle, and it's much more realistic. Since enemies pop out unexpectedly in certain places or charge at you, and the map design forces you to fight some enemies, it retains most of the advantages of random battles.
  • The enemy characters, especially bosses, kick ass. Everything from dragons and generic huge monsters to killer cakes and looney kidnappers who look suspiciously like Wario.
  • Not piss-easy, but not HOLY SHIT hard either. With the right combination of weapons, armor, and accessories, you can get to where you just kick the shit out of most enemies (which is quite fun) but still have a tough time with the ones further ahead (especially bosses).

So yeah.

It's small now, but I imagine it'll grow as 64-bit CPUs become cheaper and more supported. And really, I'm not concerned about people having to update their plugins to be compatible as I am with older, abandoned ones not working anymore. When I upgraded to lololol V1.5, a lot of my older extensions didn't work any more, and some of them have never and probably will never be updated to work with it. I want to avoid that.

Interesting, though I imagine some drivers might have to soft-patch things anyway.

Is it not illegal to release games for a Nintendo system without Nintendo's approval, even if they don't contain any copyrighted code or resources? How, then, is it different than writing drivers that allow OSX to do things Apple doesn't want it to do?

No, it's the black spy. And before the cops can react, the white spy lights the fuse with a flaming arrow from a nearby window.

Problem was it tended to be toward the high end of the scale. And I just didn't like the feel of only having 20HP and doing 2 damage at a time. With a higher scale, there's more flexibility, but with such small numbers it's generally either a little damage or a lot.

In Paper Mario it actually wasn't too bad, either. M&LSS was worse, because if you didn't dodge attacks (which was often FREAKING HARD) you were essentially fucked as you get hit 5 times taking 3 damage each with no way to prevent it and only ~30 HP.

Also those numbers are estimates.

Ugh, yes I do. I loved how they all tended to mention beating the Elite 4 5348357984578 times without talking to anyone, since you had to talk to people to fight them.

And that grass outside Palette Town, and one other place where trees randomly appeared and disappeared. That bugged the crap out of me. Then I finally got a Gameshark and used cheats to get there, and the game just crashed.

Heh, yeah. I remember I didn't believe him because of some grammatical errors that made it sound totally different.

I wonder about a few things they mention on that wiki... They say that the game auto-saves when you fight one, but I haven't seen anything to support that. What it looks like to me is the game is trying to load a compressed image, except the data isn't actually an image. This accounts for most of the bugs including the garbled image and item duplication (random writes to various places in memory). IIRC Stadium would briefly say the game was saving, but it was probably just writing to SRAM randomly (hence the permenant hall of fame corruption). Also I think Missingno was just a really early test Pokémon; they just threw in random data to test things, didn't bother giving it some things (like an image), and forgot to take it out of the source code.

Best thing I remember was making a super-Pokémon with that and another glitch. Can't remember precisely how it goes, but I think was something like this... Catch a Missingno > level 100, teach it some moves, level it up to like 230 or so, and evolve it into Khangaskhan. It drops down to level 192, teach it more cool moves. It always returns to level 192 rather than 100 like most do. Then level it up to ~230 again (using Rare Candy) and get it really weak (~20 HP), and win a battle. It drops down to 192 again, and its HP drops to match, but the game doesn't do any minimum range check and uses unsigned values for HP... you end up with like 65000/400 HP. Just don't heal it, you can use it against wild, trainers, and link battles if you're a cheater.
