Or what if it eats the tape? As for record, you can force people to repeat any given action, no matter who originally performed it or when.

Except you can only have one power, and switching between the world where you have used your superpowers and reality isn't going to do much, now, is it?

I thought of that when I posted it, but... I thought of some reason it would still be useful, but now I don't remember what it was.

But then who says you don't have other, non-VCR-related superpowers?

Heh, this thread reminds me of some TV show I saw once. These kids were watching a movie, and they hit pause, and the movie keeps going but the cat on top of the TV freezes. Then they did a bunch of other stuff with the magic remote, like making some guy rewind and fast-forward, pulling his pants down and putting them back on again. I don't remember what else happened... I think they lived in a lighthouse or something.

[edit] And let's not forget that commercial skip thing some VCRs have. Jump 30 seconds forward in time.

Well that depends... if it stores the NES ROMs uncompressed, it could be done. Make two GBA ROMs, one with the unhacked NES ROMs and one with the hacked ones, and then make an IPS patch from that. To use it, you'd make a GBA ROM with the unhacked NES ROMs yourself, and apply the patch.

Though at that point, it'd probably be easier to just make a GBA ROM with the hacked NES ROMs. Plus if any of the hacks expand the ROM, they can't be used, because everything after them would be moved, so the IPS would end up containing the entire ROM anyway.

You can just make a blank 4K file (or however big you want) in a hex editor (or even Notepad) and put your graphics in it. Or just copy any random file big enough to hold them, and plop the graphics in overtop of whatever's in there. I do it with TLP all the time.

Pretty sure, but that was quite a while ago. I don't think I even have that ROM anymore.

Also, have you even considered that stack-manipulation idea to be able to call them with JSR instead of JSL? Just want to know if it's doable. I forget how exactly you do it, I'd have to look it up; I think it involves pushing/popping before/after you make the call.

Yeah, it stays the same no matter what the level length is (length just defines how far you can scroll), but other factors such as the level type will affect it.

Just FYI, it won't hurt the game if you edit graphics with the wrong palette in YY-CHR/TLP. The programs just don't know where the right palettes are, so they make one up.

It's possible, sure, but it'd probably be expensive. Even if just for the fact that they can charge more for something that does both.

Grey's point about physics is probably the biggest problem. It might be possible, though, to optimize things by not performing the actual physics calculations on every single molecule. For example if an entire solid object is moving through air (say a bullet), there's no need to calculate all the physics of every single molecule; once you've calculated the new coordinates for one molecule given its speed/angle/etc, you can just update the rest to the same spot relative to their position within the object. Although there's still another problem - each molecule will need a certain amount of memory. At very least, their X/Y/Z coords relative to the object they belong to, some sort of ID to tell which object that is, and a colour. Assuming the coords are 4-byte floats and the object ID a 2-byte short, and no alpha channel, that's 17 bytes each (4 for each coord = 12 total, 2 for object ID, 3 for each colour). Not a whole lot, but when you're talking hundreds of millions of these things, along with everything else that takes up memory... yeah.

I think if such a system ever is implemented, it'll still use polygons where possible. Things like a static background image or the ground in a game that you can't damage it can still just be textured polygons. Or even dynamically convert them, like make walls out of polygons, but when they're damaged, replace the polygons that were hit with molecules.

Also I don't think games will ever look as good as computer-animated movies until both look precisely like reality. Consider that a game has to run at a decent framerate on one computer, while a movie's rendering is usually split across dozens or even hundreds of computers and can run at 1 frame per hour for all anyone cares (the rendering only has to happen once, after all).

Time to brace for such fun excuses as "I thought I was playing GTA", "the car must have switched out of game mode when I wasn't looking", and "that didn't happen in the game".

...Although if you read close it does say the actual game is shown on a flip-down screen, not like on the windshield or something. As awesome as that would be.

Also, DVD players in cars' back seats = good. In the FRONT seats, however... (yes, I've seen this once. )

Oh yeah, it says in the manual that you can only blow up balloons while you're not holding "A." I figured that since you had read the manual so carefully I didn't need to mention it. ;D

What page? Mine doesn't even explain what the different battle modes are. It just names them.

SERIOUSLY. THREE TIMES IN A ROW. HERAJZRQwyhwereryhea

Then, once, I made it into rainbow road, and got hit by a blue shell one foot away from the finish line. One foot! Then my competition came from behind and I got fourth

Seriously.. I don't accept less then first.... Not against a computer... so I have to reset the cup and do the easy tracks again, only to inevitably get bombed in the worst possible spot.

That's called Murphy's Law. What I find odd is in N64 Choco Mountain, 9 times out of 10, near the end, someone will fire 3 green shells at the exact same spot, with the exact same speed and angle.

A quick Google shows that there is, in fact, a browser named "Rogers Yahoo Browser", which I assume comes with the service. (Sympatico comes with some special browser too, but I didn't install it. )

Either way, what's important is that his question was answered.

It is cute... it's the animation style.

I know how you feel, though. I can only draw people if I have absolutely nothing else to do for a long time. Otherwise I get bored after about the 300th time that I have to erase something that didn't come out right and go do something else. I did it once, they came out quite well, but I don't have a scanner and the teachers would yell at me if I brought such things to school. (I tried drawing non-nudes, honestly, but they all came out crappy. )
