They abuse quantum physics in ways that boggle and blow the mind. For example, as opposed to traditional computers' bits being on or off, quantum computers' qubits (sp?) can be both on and off at the same time.

BTW, I'm both using and not using a quantum computer right now.

Suppose my local bookstore has no books on Linux, and I don't have a credit card to buy them online? Suppose I can't go online for help because I'm in the middle of installing/fixing Linux?

Also, I don't think I've ever had to use any of those "archane, undocumented Microsoft config GUIs are that aren't even accessible without digging through system32". They mainly seem to be leftovers from very old versions of Windows.

Ah, that post reminded me of one. I noticed near the beginning of Super Mario RPG, when you're still at level 1, enemy attacks will randomly heal you. It acts just as if you were hurt (white numbers and all) but your HP ends up higher than it was before.

Edit: And here I am, posting on a message board when I have work to do. Oh, the irony!

Exactly what I was going to say. It's always like "well I really should go [whatever]... eh I'll read this page first" and then two hours later I'm still online. It's annoying.

Depends what you want to do and how paranoid you are. Someone could write a plugin that just closes the program when this function is called. This could easily render your program useless unless you were to delete the plugin, and past experience tells me that instructing someone how to find and delete a file can be unpleasant. Using a resource, no code is executed, so for example the user can view a list of installed plugins and just remove the unwanted one right there.

I'm probably being overprotective when I do it this way, since I tend to think of plugin hosts as mini operating systems, and it'd be silly for an OS to run a program and trust it to supply some static information, when that information could simply be placed in a standardized location and read out of the file directly. In any case, what works works.

Yeah, both seems like the way to go. Pregenerated lets you have gradually increasing difficulty and recognizeable shapes (you can spell your name in the puzzle, wheee) while random supplies a ridiculously large number of possible puzzles.

Of course random may be a bit harder to code as you have to ensure the generated puzzle is possible.

Yeah, it certainly seems intentional, but why not just give the early enemies terrible accuracy and/or pathetic attack power?

Posted on 02-10-07 09:17 AM, in N64 High-Level Emulator Source Code/N64 RSP Info? Link
I have a bit of information on RSP commands used in various N64 games (though they can and probably do vary between games ), but it's proving not to be enough. I was wondering if anyone has any information about the commands used in Nintendo's games (primarily Mario Kart, but I imagine there's little difference among them). More importantly, I was wondering if there are any N64 emulators that use RSP high-level emulation, and if their source is available. I was hoping there might be one that doesn't actually emulate the RSP at all, essentially re-implementing commonly used binaries in native code. I think Nemu64 does this (it does the same with the game's boot code to avoid CRC issues), but its source isn't available.

For that matter are there any N64 emulators with decent debuggers? Nemu is the only one I know of and it's just argh.

That's... interesting. However, when I look at what's supposed to be a character from Charlie Brown and think "I'd hit it", something is definitely wrong.

And yes, why DOES that tattoo appear to say "erotic fart"?

A Compare operation simply performs a subtraction and doesn't store the result. So when you do for example cmp r0, 0x10, the CPU does r0 - 0x10 and updates the flags accordingly. If r0 == 0x10, then the result will be zero, so the Z(ero) flag will be set. If r0 < 0x10, the result will be negative, so the N(egative) or C(arry) flag will be set. (Not sure which ARM/Thumb has, most likely carry.)

I'd call it something like LZ77, Inverse Bits. Subtracting the value from 0xFF should invert its bits.

BTW, my PM should have explained what FC-FE did.

You just need to brush up on your Binary. Since the command byte is actually cccnnnnn, commands "E0-FE" are all one command, #7, which just executes another command with a higher counter value.

Actually, since command #7 uses the high 3 bits of N as a command #, the bytes FC-FE shouldn't even be valid. They'd have the high 3 bits set, executing command #7 again. I'm not exactly sure what this would do... how much have you tested this? Could be a special-case check like for FF.
