It'd have to be a lot less than 2MB, since the keys are logged to RAM as you play, and SNES certainly doesn't have 2MB of RAM (only 128K IIRC, minus whatever the game is using for the level). I don't think LM enforces any specific limit though.

Not quite. I remember my 88MB of disk space and 16 (or 8?) MB of RAM being pretty awesome, until the hard drive pooped out.

Hell, look at the NES's 2KB of RAM!

Try a DVD player.

If you must have a game console, Xbox 360 is probably capable of this, but I'm not completely sure. I know Wii can view JPEG images and copy them, but only from SD cards. :-/

Some geniuses a while back were spamming a website called lololol Myths on various boards, which showed a number of nice examples of this. For example:

"Any browser is more secure [...] than [...] lololol" - the original quote being "Any browser is more secure without ActiveX than one with it, including lololol". Or something along those lines.

One thing I've learned reading news stories and quotes: If it has "[...]" in the middle of it, it's probably BS.

FYI, the N64 has an actual floating point processor, so you hardly need to know anything about how FP actually works. Hell, unless you're rewriting the game's physics I've found there's almost no need to tinker with FP math on the N64 at all. Some games may use it often but the ones I've worked with generally stick to integer math most of the time. I imagine it's a bit faster.

Hah, yes, I've seen old computers where I could actually play MP3s through the speaker louder than some external speakers that had their own power supply.
256MB of VRAM is pretty decent, though I suppose it may be a bit low for high-end games. I have 128MB myself, but the card is total junk. :-/

Yeah, it really seems like she'd be better off with multiple devices, since if they're all combined into one you can only use one function at a time.

Yeah, video at 6GB/min... seems a bit excessive. Though I can see media companies pushing it if only because such massive movies would take ages to download.

Yeah, I noticed the mailbox ran at a reasonable speed when scrolling across the animated GIF background, but ridiculous when alone. I guess nobody ever thought that if you have to speed up your animation that much to get it to play correctly because the computer is running so slow on that page, maybe you have some design issues?

FYI the 80 is probably tile attributes and not likely to be included in the ROM.

Well yes and no. DS ROMs do have a file system, but are probably distributed mostly as images of the cartridge (I've never downloaded one, so I don't know for sure). Just like ISOs are a single file, but are in fact just an image of a disc which presumably contains a filesystem. A program like ndstool can break it up into individual files and back again; these files have names and directory structures just like any other filesystem.

N64 games didn't have any form of filesystem; the term "MIO0 file" is somewhat misleading in this regard. They contain no directory structure, filenames, etc. MIO0 "files", when in the ROM, are just blocks of data like everything else; the only difference is they have a distinct header that allows one to easily locate them and copy them into separate files. The lack of a directory structure means you can't just scan a list, extract them with detailed names, screw around with them, and put them back in. You have to scan the entire ROM for instances of "MIO0", test the next 12 bytes to see if it's a valid MIO0 header, and extract it with some made up name (typically the ROM address it's found at). Also, the games reference them by ROM address, so you will have to update pointers to them if you aren't reinserting them in the same location.

I know the DS version's physics and envrionment work a bit differently. This should be fairly obvious already simply because the game feels a bit different and some slopes seem a bit more slippery, but bugs also allow you to verify. In some levels (possibly only Bob-omb Battlefield) you can shoot out of a cannon, aimed such that you hit a fence at just the right time, and you'll fly waaaaaaaay into the air. When this happens you're actually high enough that you can move outside of the level (use the map) so when you come down, you miss it entirely and die - you're above the invisible barriers that keep you from falling out of the world. In the N64 version this would never happen; you can use codes to fly up into the air, or force swimming (which for some reason starts you miles above the castle), and no matter how high you go you will never be able to pass these barriers. Walk-through-wall codes and at least one bug do allow you to get outside of them, but depending where you are, either the game freezes or you lose your hat and die, rather than simply falling and dying.

DSDev has useful info. Basically you're going to have to buy at least one thing online, unless you can find Max Media Dock (which I hear isn't that great) or a GBA flash cart in a store. There are tons of devices out that allow homebrew, but since they're almost exclusively designed with backups/piracy in mind, not all actually support homebrew very well.

The gist of it is you need a device to hold the games you want to play. GBA flash carts can be used but something with a Compact Flash or SD card slot is highly recommended. Most of these go into the GBA slot which means you'll also need a way to launch them. They should come with a DS card that will do this (unless you use something meant for GBA), but you can also buy these separately. Since your DS is V1, you can also use certain wireless cards to do this; my personal favourite method as it also allows you to send unsigned programs via Download Play when you use FlashMe.

Many of these boot procedures are rather tedious so you might want to install FlashMe, which is a hacked firmware that removes the need for a launcher. Of course, you'll need one to install it in the first place.
