Hey, and since it's December my layout's turned red and (moreso) green. How very appropriate.

The entire point of this thread is lost in the fact that I'm not signing up for anything to watch a video. I could look for BugMeNot accounts, but after reading some of the reactions I think I'll just close that tab...

Seriously. This movie is chock full of raw data that will shock even those who already know global warming is a severe problem. It clearly shows that its effects are happing much, much faster than most people realize, and how little is being done about it. I was absolutely astonished at some most of the charts and image comparisons of lakes and glaciers over a time span of only 30-40 years in most cases. It's ridiculous.

Some emulators might have specific VRAM dump functions, but in any case you can find it in a save state. Just browse the state in a tile editor and you'll find the graphic data soon enough.

Snes9x compresses its states though, so you won't find squat there.

Hey, let's get a list of news reports going regarding the PS3's shortcomings and/or outright failures.

PS3 Disc Drive Fails Out Of The Box
...and so do the controllers
PS3 games backed up just 6 days after launch
200,000 PS3s? Not even.
30 games must be sold per console for Sony to break even
Top 10 PS3 Complaints - bad video, lacking online support, faulty controllers, etc.

There's a few more on my laptop but I can't be arsed to boot it up just for that. Feel free to correct my titles too.

But was this a problem with the laptops, or with Sony batteries in them? Those were in many brands.

Dur? You mean I shouldn't store my game consoles in boxes of oily rags while playing?

As I recall hearing MS did offer power cords with a fuse or something, but all this really did was ensure that if your power supply was faulty, it'd just shut down instead of potentially catching fire. Your Xbox would still be dead.

Meh, I already have a DVD player but I like the idea of using things to their fullest extent. That is to say if I have a 19" TV I like the picture to be 19 inches (hence why I dislike "widescreen" movies), and in the case of CRT monitors I try to adjust them to have as large an image as possible. If I have a machine with a DVD-ROM drive, which certainly has all the processing power required to play DVDs, then I'd like to see it play a DVD.

What really pisses me off is I just realized the true reason support has to be a separate console rather than a firmware update: the Wii's hardware, not being designed with DVDs in mind, lacks the Macrovision bug. You know that little "feature" in DVD players that fucks up the picture if connected through a VCR... they'd have to somehow add that to the console, hence a separate version. DRM screws us again! I already have to rewire a bunch of stuff every time I want to watch a DVD (another reason I'd like Wii to do the job) because of this "feature", because everything going into my TV passes through my VCR first.

As for reports, what I heard went something like this. Wii will play DVDs. Actually, it won't. Heck, it will. Nah, maybe not. Well to be precise it'll be an option. (Never specifying that this was an option you make when you buy the system - and those who want it have to wait - rather than a simple on/off switch or add-on.)

My worthless opinion:
Spoiler (My worthless opinion):Why couldn't you just write the subject before the spoiler as I've done here?

What needs to be done is to make the text not show up in certian peoples' layouts, and/or give the spoiler boxes a specific class with the user ID attatched so they can be customized.

There's cheats to equip it (I myself made a code a while back to equip any item at any age) but all it does as a child is hang the game (not frozen, but waiting unresponsively for something that never happens). I think this may be because child Link has no animation for this, or something silly like that. Not easy to fix in any case.

Also, some Diddy Kong Racing US V1.0 I've been meaning to do:

8112644C ????
8112644E ????
Option Flags. Bit 25 is subtitles on/off, bits 2 and 3 are language.

81084542 ????
Modifies which language is the second option (normally French). 0=English, 1=German, 2=French, 3="Japanese" (actually just a lot of blank text and the word "Japanese", breaks some menus).

81084550 2404
81084552 ????
Modifies which language is the first option (normally English). The game tends to get confused if this is not English, ignoring the language selection and always choosing a particular language instead.

German text in the English version. Not sure why this isn't a selectable option.

Rare's awesome Japanese translation. You though Zero Wing was bad?

Yep, and the movie addresses that common argument. There is a natural cycle in which CO2 levels rise and fall and temperature goes up and down. The medieval warming period was proof of this. But this argument is flawed. There's a chart in the movie that clearly shows why, but I don't have the disc handy to grab a screenshot. It clearly shows temperatures going up and down every hundred years or so... then blasting off through the fucking roof starting in 1970. The effects we're seeing now are far, far beyond those of the natural cycle.

[edit] Google has some charts showing the same info. Here's a perfect example:

This clearly shows CO2 has been going up and down for 650,000 years (as far back as we can record). But check out the giant leap at the end.

Other charts showing similar trends:

This one appears to show just a normal cycle... but look at the very end. The increase is so huge the line is practically vertical.

A version of the one above zoomed in on the last 1000 years.

(For sources, just go the websites the images are hosted on. )

This is exactly the kind of issue the movie addresses and exactly the type of info it shows. It debunks a lot of common myths just like this one.
