A router would have better range, doesn't require the computer to be on (or kill your connection if the computer crashes), doesn't require any software changes to the computer (driver installs), and can also serve other computers. Since getting one we haven't had to run any cables when hooking up a few new computers, and I can use my laptop just about anywhere.

That'd work, but... The people who put the topics in the wrong forum usually don't. Either that, or they do, but think that only special people get access. Either way, I guess you're right.

You do have a good point; the descriptions don't do a lot to explain the approval process. Maybe they could link the word "approval" to a thread explaining it.

I'll kill it using the best thread killing technique I've ever discovered:

Has anyone hacked Banjo-Tooie yet? I heard someone found those random pointers a while ago but nothing seems to have come of that.

My Windows needs to be reinstalled, but I'm holding off until I get a few other things done first. It's amusing watching the dumb things it starts to do.

In chronological order:
  • Fails to draw the Start menu correctly (usually a black bar at the bottom - this bug appeared out of nowhere ages ago and has survived a reinstall on a completely different computer not that annoying except when the menu or taskbar is translucent which makes it really bad)
  • Forgets my screen resolution and desktop icon positions at bootup (annoying)
  • Forgets a few other things, such as colour settings in Hex Workshop (fairly annoying)
  • Occasionally gives two separate windows focus at the same time (just dumb)
  • Freezes when a monitor cable gets knocked out of place (I suspect this is just a dumb video driver)
  • Sometimes doesn't update the Last Modified date of a file (quite annoying since I use xcopy to copy the newest versions of files to my laptop and back, which relies on that)
  • Randomly gives translucent windows a width and height of zero when restored, leaving only a small title bar (annoying, but easily fixed by changing translucency)
  • Once just tossed a file out the window - completely disappeared - when I tried to move it (really annoying, but I got it back by hitting Undo)
  • Returns a blank page instantly in lololol about half the time I load a page (quite annoying, and I suspect other apps have the same problem; Gmail Notifier keeps whining about bad data, it did just now in fact, but this could be because Azureus is constantly chewing up 65K of my bandwidth)

Just wonder what dumb thing will happen next.

I doubt they're much better. Notice he told that guy where to for help on his hack (when it's clearly a homebrew project that's never going to happen) instead of banning him for massive stupidity or at least asking for help making a game when he clearly doesn't know the first thing about programming.

At first I thought he was describing a new game that was supposedly in production. I laughed when he said it would have a cheat menu. The only games I've seen that try to prevent cheating more than recent Pokémon games are Rare's.

OK well let's see. The max size of a ROM is 6144KB. The original SMW packs all its levels, graphics, music, overworld, and the entire game program into 512KB. That gives you 5632KB for your own levels, graphics, music, overworld, and any ASM hacks you add (which certainly won't be near as much code as SMW itself). Keep in mind graphics and the overworld are compressed and levels are stored in a very efficient object-based format. I don't think maybe 16 bytes of code for this block are going to be a big issue. No hack to my knowledge has reached 6MB, except DW:TLC, which only did it to see if it could be done and didn't actually need nearly that much space.

[edit] Reworded for great justice.
