Probably the best death ever. What do they do when someone wins the race dead?

Well if there isn't then just do it manually (LDA, INC, STA, possibly a PHA and PLA if need be).

Also if both ZSnes and BSnes (the most accurate emulator yet) do the same thing, it's probably fairly safe to assume they're right.

This happened with my really crappy sound drivers for my motherboard's built-in sound system; the driver would crash, but it'd still be playing system sounds. Just rebooting would fix it though. I eventually got a nice PCI card whose drivers actually work.

Of course check for driver and BIOS updates too.

In that case it might be worth putting a BRK at the beginning of the routine, or in place of the branch that should be calling it, and seeing if it ever even gets executed.

You did ensure everything is set up the same though, right? No hacks enabled, same ROM and SRAM, no save states, and no auto-patched IPS patches?

Don't forget sheep.

This game seems like it'd be perfect on a system with a pointing device. I haven't played it but it looks that way from previews I've seen.

That only works on Windows XP, and for its price, you could get a generic USB stick that does the same but works on more OSes.

I don't want to go into too much detail, but at one point apparently one of Nintendo's development teams had a very insecure FTP server with many dev tools publicly accessible, and game source codes in password-protected directores with passwords (dunno if they were for those directories) in publicly-accessible plain text files. They've fixed it since though.

Similarly Nintendo's own dev site, WarioWorld.com, once had a fatal flaw in its security: clicking Login without entering a username or password would get you in.

Eh, they say any publicity is good publicity. Zelda: OoT's popularity seems to have spiked since its debug version was leaked.

impossible name?
Like what?

Like any name containing letters that aren't on the name entry screen. Some fun ones were the bold versions of certain letters (a hacked Mewtwo named DEATH in bold ), various symbols, or text control codes that would make weird effects when their name is displayed. (Line breaks in names, muahaha.)

(As I've said about 45436 times before ) I saw Super Mario 64 in perfect detail (no sound though IIRC) in a dream about 2 years before the game was out. There was no way I could have seen it IRL before then. The dream was very short; Mario was in Whomp's Fortress and fell from the sky (presumably from the owl), grabbed onto the cement ledge at the right, and pulled himself up. I was literally quite stunned to see this level in the game when I did play it!

I've had that, and yes, it's quite annoying. I get a weird state where I know I'm dreaming, but still can't really control it, and am aware (loosely) of both the dream and my real-life surroundings at the same time.

I've had that happen. Dreamt I got on the computer and played some game online, even though at the same time I knew I was in bed and was waiting for the last minute before I absolutely had to wake up to get to class on time. It was weird.

I've had that too but it's not the same as what I was describing. (I get them in bed just before waking up too, or just after waking up 10 minutes early and going back to bed.) It's like a very vivid thought; I can see things in a lot more detail. Kinda hard to describe but it's almost like a second visual input; I can choose whether I see real life or the dream, or some kind of weird combination (generally the dream in the top half of my field of view). I'm completely aware it's a dream, and am actually quite awake.
These tend to go with dreams I was having before waking up that take place in real life. A lot of the time I'm doing something on the computer or talking on the phone in those dreams. When I wake up the dream is still going but I can sense everything in real life, and as my brain slowly starts up I realize "well it doesn't matter what I do because I'm not on my computer at all; I'm still in bed, this is just a dream". (I actually think almost that exact sentence every time). Then I generally just stop it manually because there's not much point to it. Nothing more happens; it's just me sitting at the computer thinking I'm actually in bed.

Now the fall-asleep-in-class half-dream I describe is fairly different. These are just like real dreams except I'm perceiveing both them and real life at the same time. Things happen in the dream just as they would when I'm asleep; I'm usually too far asleep to realize I'm in this state until I wake up. When I sleep my brain's logic unit just shuts right off and I never think "hey, that doesn't make any sense" about something in a dream (until I recall it while awake of course). So although I'm fully aware that I'm perceiving both real life and a dream at the same time, I never realize how strange this is or that the dream is in fact a dream until later when I'm fully awake.

I guess it's basically the same thing, only in the second, I'm less awake; enough that the dream actually "goes" instead of it just being me sitting there, and my brain's logic system shuts down. Usually I fall right asleep shortly after and stop perceiveing real life at all.

Reminds me of the time me and my brother were dropping small soft apples from on top of a rock onto the road below. We'd drop them on the road to get them run over, or into the back of pickups, harmless but fun. Then Mr Genius here gets the bright idea of dropping one on someone's windshield. The guy stopped and yelled at us and we left. Nothing broke though.

Barring that, switch the tape at the local drive-in theatre with a porn flick.

Heh, that reminds me, I always wanted to buy the local grade school or something and race motorbikes in it. You could do some fun things there; on the second floor, at least one floor-level window leads right onto the roof.

And I think everyone's thought about switching tapes with porno. I actually did similar once at school. We had a substitute teacher who was supposed to just play a movie and give us an assignment sheet about it to fill out while it played. The VCR was sat next to me before class started, so I leaned over and hit fast-forward. A few minutes later I stopped it. We spent the entire time watching the wrong movie, nobody did the assignment (they didn't know I'd done anything, they just couldn't tell WTF they were supposed to do), and the next day the teacher assumed he left the tape in the wrong spot and cancelled the assignment entirely. Haha!
