- Sony have ripped off the Wii Virtual Console PS1 and PS2 games as well as MD and PC Engine Emus released and available online....

Not surprising. Next they'll be adding a touch screen to the PSP. This image I made up a while ago seems appropriate here:

- Ok a little weird but users will be able to donate the processing power of the PS3 onlin to help medical research (think like the SETI @ Home thingy but for a PS3)

Seems like a bizarre attempt to convince people they're not evil.

- Users will be able to give their ideas to game developers. Okaaaay....

We can already do that using this thing called email.

On: AIM, games, other sites and boards, lots of coding, hacking Gameshark codes, doodling in Paint, watching animé. Music is usually playing as I do these things.

Off: Never happens Watch TV, play with my cat, wander around aimlessly outdoors, video games, and occasionally attend animé conventions.

It really sounds like either a faulty power supply or a short on/physical damage to the motherboard (could easily be caused by screwing something up while changing heatsinks) is causing problems. I've seen various power supplies and similar things (even the AC adapter for the Nintendo DS) make a high-pitched squeal when plugged in, but only when load is applied, so that implies something may be shorted. The squealing PC speaker and obviously incorrect temperature report also suggest this.

I've had two different cases, with two different laptops, where the speaker would squeal the entire time it was on but it would run fine. Just powering off and on again stopped it. I've also had a desktop do it, but it didn't actually start up.

Must head to class. -.-

Most of the emails I've sent to Nintendo have got a response, and not just cut-and-paste form letter crap either.

Peach, what animé is that image from? I've seen it before but I can't recall the name.

As for the PS2 breaking, it dosn't matter if it happened to your friends, that dosn't change the fact that it has happened to countless other people. Your friends arent special--just because something happens or dosn't happen to them dosn't make it cannon. Just because their Nintendo products dont work dosn't mean the all do, and just because thier Sony products work dosn't mean they don't give many others headaches. End rant ._.

Actually, all my Gamecube controllers had that problem. You'd start up the game and the stick would be way off center. In some cases you'd reset it (X+Y+Start) and then as soon as you touched it again it'd go back to being crazy. The rubber padding was also coming off.

When I was 5 or so I laid a rake down on the ground and stomped it so the handle would swing up and hit me in the head, to see if it'd hurt. It did, a lot more than Sideshow Bob let on.

I also once made the mistake of not watching what I was typing during a Linux installation. It wasn't until I started getting errors about there not being a filesystem on the partition I thouht I'd made one on, that I looked back up and saw I'd made it on the partition with all my files on it instead, deleting a lot of things. Fortunately NTFS keeps backups of the MFT so most files were recoverable, but many were corrupted or wiped entirely.

Oh and then there was the time I decided to see what'd happen if I put a SNES game in my N64 Gameshark. Byebye Mario Kart.

Smashing a computer - especially while on - does sound fun but it'd be a waste of parts. Also I always wanted to jump off the roof of a two-story or so house into a HUGE pile of snow, but it'd have to be pretty big and soft.

Nintendo hardly has a reputation for making bad controllers but they do seem to be getting less durable. NES and SNES controllers, you could practically smash through a brick wall with. I smashed the hell out of them and they never gave me problems. N64 controllers could take plenty of abuse but wore out fairly quickly. Gamecube controllers just seem to be really weak; they wear out fast and are pretty easy to break. I've matured a lot since the NES and SNES days and almost never smash my controllers anymore, but my Gamecube ones still didn't last nearly as long as any previous ones.

Also, I think both Yoro and Emptyeye are right. If more of a product is sold, then there are going to be more reports of them being defective, because n% of a larger group is a larger number. However, Sony's never really been known for durability, and it seems there is a much higher percentage of defective PS2s than Gamecubes and XBoxes. Most PS2 owners I talk to say theirs or their friend's has worn out and quit for whatever reason (laser problems generally), while most XBox and Gamecube owners I talk to have no problems to report aside from minor things like the Gamecube's sticky eject button. A friend of my mom is on his 5th PS2 after the first four wore out; he never abused them, just played them a lot. His kid has an XBox which he plays almost all day long, and the only problem he ever mentioned it having was a sticky disc tray because some idiot punched it or something. Me and my brother both play our Gamecube a lot and it's never had the slightest problem besides the sticky eject button.
