No, you guys don't seem to get the idea. This is old code I already wrote a long time ago that doesn't validate the pointer. I want the compiler to warn me when that old code is being used so I can go get rid of it. It's too late to implement error handling.

I think I could count the number of people in my high school who actually deserved to pass grade 3 on my hands. These people, even in grade 12, can't spell worth shit, don't know basic math or grammar, etc. A lot of my assignments in English were fucking word searches. The only people who ever failed were the ones who didn't show up. It's really sad.

Well technically you could reduce that to this:

But the point of that was to have a bare minimum test program to use while I tried to recompile SDL to get rid of that damn stdio redirect. (Tip: ./configure --disable-stdio-redirect )

Corrupting half the ROM is likely going to crash it. I like to stick to corrupting one bank at a time, then start narrowing down when you find the bank that has the effect you want.
Also it's good to use a value like 0x20 instead of zero or random, because it's easier to tell what's changed. Suppose you use zero and when you start the game, your character is standing on nothing. How do you know what you did? Maybe you wiped out the level, the tile arrangements, the palettes, the graphics, etc. With 0x20 it should be easier to tell. If you wiped the level you'll be standing on garbage; if it's tile arrangements the level will be just the same 8x8 tile over and over; if it's palettes everything will be an odd colour, and if it's graphics, usually all of the graphics will be reduced to vertical lines.

I think that's what I'll end up doing. Your post gave me an idea - put a second declaration of the variable in the header file, so it would generate a warning about duplicate definitions (the declaration is in each program, not in the file they include) - but I like the grep idea more.

Change the subtitle settings, click Save, then stop and re-start the movie.
Of course these settings have no effect if the subtitles are images, or hardsubbed (the text is actually part of the video).

Yeah, especially given how old JPEG is, back then I guess they decided it was worth an extra 4K (IIRC the preview is a 64x64 256-colour bitmap) to reduce the processing power it would take to open and resize each image.

I think it's been said that if the core were optimized enough, SNESDS could emulate the DSP-1, but SuperFX is unlikely. AFAIK the ARM9 already has its hands full doing 65816 emulation, and ARM7 is busy with SPC700 emulation and other things. That's without even software rendering - right now it feeds the graphics data to the DS's graphics hardware directly, which has some accuracy problems since SNES's GPU could do things DS's can't.
