The look's based on the PSX version which is the more recent of the two so it makes sense that they'd use it; plus, don't forget that the game was only released in Japan in 2003 (I think) and Nintendo only announced the port late last year.

I also don't know who translated it, but if it was Nintendo, they aren't living up to their usual standards... some stuff just sounds odd.

But it's a good port. Enough extra bells and whistles added, and I've gotten farther in this than I have in the SNES version so that's proof enough I'm into it.

Just curious - what drugs were Kemco on when they came up with THAT boxart? I mean, boxart isn't always everything but some people might have been turned off by the game based on that!

I remember the guy was in the ads for the game too... just really odd. I don't understand their marketing strategy.

Starcraft for the N64 was a weird move on Blizzard's part (I think Nintendo published the game) but it somehow worked. They basically managed to port over the entire game (Starcraft + Brood War) and fit it onto one cart, which was a pretty good feat in itself.

I believe the game needed the expansion pack however. If I recall, SC was playable but you needed the pack for Brood War and MAYBE two-player mode.

Yeah, seriously. Don't bump threads if all you're going to do is just rant in them.

You don't have very fast DSL, do you?

And you can set up BT to capture certain files first but it might take a little longer. If a download's 98% complete and a few files are done, I'm fairly certain you can access them.

Spring break was two weeks ago... Easter break's interesting because we finish classes on a Tuesday, and usually we go right into exams, but because Easter's late this year... we end up getting about a week off before exams start.

But even the $20's not that bad because at least it seems like GS recognizes the rarity of Disgaea and the fact that it's a game a lot of people are looking for. Granted, when it comes to games like that you can make double (EASILY) by selling to a friend or on eBay, but it's not really that much of a shaft.

And the reason sports games are the worst in terms of value is because new versions come out EVERY year, and they also tend to take a price drop around 6 months after release to begin with. Within the next month I'll bet that Future Shop/Best Buy here will have a sale with 2006 EA Sports games for $19.99 each. With sports games, you can get some value for them a few months after purchase. The value's going to dip when the initial demand dies down (6 months?) and it's going to crash when the new version of the game comes out. For example, I can get Madden 2005 for $10-15 here if I wanted it, and by this time next year Madden 2006 will be on sale for that price as well. So if a store's only going to make a few bucks (IF that) off the sale, they're certainly not going to offer you top dollar.

*end rant*

Command and Conquer also ended up on the N64. I have no idea why Nintendo had this obsession to have PC strategy games on the console, but I'm guessing it didn't hurt.

Granted, something along those lines would be MUCH easier to pull off now on either the Revolution or DS.

I somehow think that by the time people started to download movies en masse, DSL was already on the scene and made it a LOT easier - even if it was only at 20-30kb/s, at least you could leave it on overnight.

2mbps isn't that slow since that's roughly 200kb/s. Mine's around that but the network's getting an upgrade right now, so I could be up to 5mbps. I'll be happy with any little increase, really.

Oh, another thing that drops the value... when a game achieves Greatest Hits status. I saw it happen once, when prices dropped on Tales of Symphonia when it became a Player's Choice title (and thus on sale for $29 here) - I think the used copies were selling for $35-40 and that had to go, and of course the vicious cycle continues.

Sky: True, but I know for a fact that NCAA games are HARD to come by in Canada. I rarely see them in stores if ever, so I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a good trade-in value for them regardless.

And at least Disgaea has a kickass theme song.

Ufouria was announced as coming to the States but the NES market was starting to die out, so it only got a European release. Same with Mr. Gimmick.

Not surprisingly, both of those games are very fun.

And yet Famitsu gave FFXII a perfect score (10, 10, 10, 10 = 40), despite the mixed reactions to the DQ8 demo.

I'd say SE bought them off but Famitsu put the screws to them with the new FF7 game (7, 7, 7, 7 = 28).
