Aston Villa is my new team to root for in the EPL by the way. |
 They were set to have a bad season (and maybe be relegated) but with a fantastic new manager (Martin O'Neill, who did WONDERS with Celtic and rarely gets his tactics wrong) and with some actual money to spend, they should be OK. Not up in the European spots but maybe a strong mid-table finish.
Ellis had no ambition. He's a bit like a Jeremy Jacobs in Boston (NHL), I think... he wouldn't mind success but doesn't want to break the bank for it. He took over right after Aston Villa won the European Cup (now the Champions League) in 1981 and basically had a fire sale over the next few seasons. He'd rather see Villa have a mediocre season right in the middle or bottom half of the table instead of actually spending money to bring in a few guys who can immediately help the team. Lerner knows that the fans have basically suffered for a long time so he's going to be willing to open up the checkbook; not an insane amount, mind you, but enough so that the squad can improve a bit before September 1 and during the winter transfer window. And that's why the fans are happy, because Ellis was doing dick-all and Lerner knows that. Now, the rumor is that O'Neill is interested in Stilian Petrov of Celtic, who is a very good midfielder that worked with O'Neill for several years, meaning he knows exactly what O'Neill's about and how the team's going to work. Maybe get him and one or two other guys in and Villa should, at the very least, be safe from the drop.

Oh GEEZ I second that strongly. When I was a kid I'd always watch Chef Pasquale on TV in the morning because he was the MAN. And like I was telling ||bass last night, there are NOT only a finite amount of flavors in the world. We eat certain things because we like them, and not everyone likes the same food. Some people have huge palates, others are picky eaters, but the vast majority of people have their likes when it comes to eating. (Excluding people with eating disorders, of course.)

Yeah, but not THAT much. I mean, look at Nintendo - if someone buys a dev kit and makes a fun little game that sells a couple of thousand copies on Wii, then they come out ahead. It's not like you're paying tens of thousands of dollars to crank out something that might flop severely. |

I find it ironic, though. Usually if you call a ceasefire, then maybe you TONE DOWN your operations until the time comes, then stop. You don't decide to use all those rockets you just received and fire them all off before 1 AM.

I mean, if the ceasefire sticks and everything goes as well as can be expected, then great. It's too bad how it came to transpire.
