Montreal just had Otakuthon last month, which was our first notable anime convention. I couldn't go because I had other things to do (*cough*WORLD CUP*cough*) that weekend, but it looks like it was a huge success; I believe 2,500+ were in attendance over the weekend which is well above what the organizers hoped for, so the odds of there being a 2007 edition are good. |
All I know is that cosplay was out in force judging by the pictures.  I'd probably stick out like a sore thumb if I had gone.

Dunno if Montreal's going to use CCR (which would be a fun stadium to watch a game at) or Molson Stadium (which might be better attendance-wise). They'd better figure that out soon because you can't start selling tickets here before you know how many you can sell. We have all Group D games, a Round of 16 game and a QF.

In other news today... the Italian match-fixing results came in. Juventus: Demoted to Serie B, 30 point deduction. Yes. 30 points. Translation: They're not coming back up to Serie A this year. Fiorentina: Demoted to Serie B, 12 point deduction. Lazio: Demoted to Serie B, 7 point deduction. AC Milan: They can stay in Serie A but they'll start the season with a 15 point deduction, so they won't challenge for the title. All the clubs are going to appeal but I hope the punishments stick. Inter Milan for the Scudetto.

This is the pinnacle of overreaction. Apparently kidnapping some Israeli soldiers is grounds for this. I don't think anyone can justify Israel's actions here (well, aside from our PM voicing his support yesterday... |
) and they'd better come to their senses quickly. No good can come from this, whether the conflict spreads or stays confined to that general area.

No, no. If they got a 44-point deduction then you might as well just send them down to Serie B now because there's no way in hell they could recover from that. They got a 44-point deduction from last year's total which is purely smoke and mirrors, since they were going to be kicked out of European competition anyways.

Juventus were also stripped (!) of their last two league titles, which will be awarded to... no team. 
And the only way I can think of applying this to pro sports here would be to say that a team is ineligible for postseason play.

Late night eating for me is usually crap. You know... chips, snack mix, chocolate, etc. But there are alternatives... cheese and crackers, a sandwich (either open-faced or regular... peanut butter + jam or salami or cheese), carrots and salad dressing, etc.
