| I've actually seen the "DAMN SONY" stuff in a LOT of places, and not just places full of Nintendo fanboys. I've probably seen between 5-10 negative/neutral reactions for every positive one.
I mean, look at the controller again. Granted, it's possible that Sony had the motion stuff planned since day 1, even before people knew about the Wii controller. But even if they did, they're coming across as copycats regardless. Then they save the price for the end of the conference and get a very negative reaction from the audience in attendance, and don't even mention that the difference in prices isn't just because of the HD. They made a lot of blunders today, which probably won't hurt them at all in the long run but I can't see them winning the Christmas wars this year with only two million units (less than that in North America of course) to go around. It's a shame because some of the stuff (like FFXIII) looks really good. I can sum up Nintendo and MS tomorrow: Nintendo wins if: They show off an incredibly strong game lineup and the Wii controller works as promised. They basically need to come out aggressive. Nintendo loses if: The games look bad, the Wii controller looks like a gimmick, some of the bigger games (Mario, SSB, Metroid, etc.) are delayed/not shown. A huge price point (anything ABOVE $249, which is the absolute most it should sell for) doesn't help either. Microsoft wins if: They stay the course. Show some solid games, cross fingers that Gears of War is the E3 Game of the Show and showcase the system's strengths. Microsoft loses if: They get too fancy, they tease Halo 3 and don't deliver, or they spend half of the conference talking about Windows Vista. |

I unbanned the people who PMed me... that totals 4.

Of course, I have no idea why that link's up or why people are clicking it or anything like that; I'm just doing it because I'm in no mood for bitching. ![]()

First I'll copy/paste a post I couldn't post here yesterday:
|
I thought Nintendo made a few mistakes today... a price/launch date would have been good unless Sony stole their launch date, but the odds of that aren't great. They also should have pushed the Virtual Console idea a lot more unless that ends up on the E3 show floor... I mean, they just needed to show a few clips of SMB3, Super Metroid and Ocarina of Time (and maybe a clip of Sonic to drive home the Sega thing) to show it off briefly. No new Super Smash Bros. disappointed me as well. But on the plus side... they did all right. Certainly not a failure, because they showed off some nice looking Wii stuff (including Twilight Princess now officially being released for the GameCube AND the Wii) and I'm really interested to hear all the hands-on impressions starting tomorrow. The classic controller for the Virtual Console games is sleak as well but I wonder if that's going to come included or if it'll cost you. Plus the DS lineup looks quite strong (Yoshi's Island 2... I want NOW.), so that's a plus. I'm not a huge Microsoft fan but they just had to stay the course this time around and that's what happened. Dunno about the Live Anywhere stuff, and it was funny that they mentioned GTA4 as an exclusive while the Rockstar press release that came out said it's coming for the PS3 as well, but they probably have Christmas 2006 in the bag. Halo 3, of course, won't hurt. I don't think anyone hit a home run, but as far as press conferences this year I'd put Nintendo just ahead of Microsoft, with Sony in dead last this time around. Nintendo could have done a bit more but still generated the buzz they were looking for, Microsoft had some surprises and didn't really rock the boat too much, and Sony... I really don't know what to make of Sony at this point. The Playstation name's strong enough that this probably won't hurt the PS3, but this was surreal. However, based on reading the post-conference reactions so far... Nintendo obviously got the job done. There's a lot more positive Wii buzz than before and I think a lot of the name concerns have been dealt with. I wasn't totally convinced going in that Wii could beat PS3 as new system of the show, but... it certainly looks that it could go that way when the whole batch of gaming site awards go up at the end of the week.

Ashley's dunce picture is probably the best "STFU" type pic I've ever seen here. |
I'm not going to have sympathy for people who click it TWICE. ![]()

I think Colin meant he has no sympathy for people who click it, get unbanned by an admin, then click it again.
|
Absolutely. It's all fun and games (... ) the first time, but if you're trying to test an admin's patience by doing it again when you KNOW what it does... ugh.
Put it this way; if someone did that, I'd "forget" to unban them for a little bit.

Am I the only one to think that this idea was dumb?

No. No, you're not. Not in the least. ![]()

...WIIIIIIIIIIIII. ^__________^ The game's called Super Smash Bros. Brawl and will use GameCube controls (meaning no reliance on motion). New playable characters include Snake (...WTF?!?), Wario, Metaknight (*watches Kirby fans squeal*), Pit (*everyone can watch Colin squeal*) and Samus in her Metroid Zero Mission outfit. And one new special attack? A Nintendog pops up and puts his paws over the screen to obstruct the screen. GENIUS. Release date? 2007. ![]() (edited by Colin on 05-10-06 11:19 PM)

I mean, look at the adorable Nintendog.
I'm going to be broke when the Wii comes out. ![]() (restricted) |

Well, not to care unless you clicked the button. In which case you might care just a little bit. |

Apparently Kojima "begged" Nintendo to put Snake in the game.
|
Well, I suppose trading a Snake cameo in SSB Brawl for a possible MGS game down the road works. ![]()

I'm officially challenging EVERYONE to an online game at some point in 2007 when this comes out.

Oh yes. Much fun and wackiness will ensue.

I'm waiting for the abusive PM where you read what the person has to say to you (despite this not being your idea) and then don't feel like unbanning him/her. |

I'm not a fan of noiseless keyboards but my old keyboard... it could wake up the dead if you typed too fast. |
Trust me, though... water might be OK but ice tea on a keyboard will DEFINITELY kill it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
