Originally posted by NSNicklim 1 = Infinity Nope, not quite. I had that answer at the end of my post and had to edit it because I made the same mistake. The limit of that is infinity if you approach from the positive, or negative infinity if you approach from the negative. So there's no actual value for the normal limit. Which really does a lot to explain why things end up breaking when people try to assign values to 1 / 0. |

| HH, your grammar, all things in account, is good. Congratulations.
I said that control-f could aid in writing prior though. I did not look at Narnia. I may, but not now or prior. I did not look at its book, too. As an additional topic, do any of you want to augur how long my "Don't post back for a bit short of four plus four days" topic will go until it actually is so long 'twixt posts? |

| I can't really imagine someone being offended by something Christmassy. I mean, it has next to nothing to do with any specific religion or culture, it just kinda happened.
Christmas is the only holiday we have that's entirely devoted to being nice to people for no damn reason. I just can't find any reason to argue with that. |

| FreeDOS is right. Just because the entire lot of us are a bunch of scofflaws, it doesn't mean that what we do is /inately/ illegal.
That MWL format looks pretty juicy, good post, S Hacker. Do you know the format of the actual level data type stuff inside that file? I'll take a good look inside a file in a few minutes myself. I suspect the actual level data format should be very familiar... EDIT: Okay, looking at the file LM saves when you export level 105 out of an unmodified ROM, which should presumably come out the same for everyone. Want to verify that I'm reading this right... does the layer one data start out "33 40 08 80 27 58 10 BF 77"? | This chain of posts shall not stop!
It has not bought a farm, it just must gain a bonus topic. So, a topic I shall put forth! What is last thing you saw/did that you could call "similar to putting liquid OWN straight into your arm?" (edited by Squash Monster on 12-19-05 09:18 PM) |

| It's similar to liquid groovy or liquid spiffy. But with own.
Also, go look through this chain of posts. You fail at it. |

| If the mode variables are ints, like Euclid guessed, then this code should work fine. If they're Strings or anything else you can't accurately use == with, then there's going to be a problem.
Or there could be a problem elsewhere in the program. Putting something like this in your default statement might bring something to light: System.out.println(typeMode + " : " + (typeMode == MODE_ASCII) + " : " + (typeMode == MODE_JPN)); |

| I have an old cavalry sword, but prefer short swords and throwing daggers.
However, swords suck. Polearms are the kings of melee weapons. ...I really want to learn Naginata. |

| The trick is, at least, if you don't want to kill anyone, the trick is to find some snow that doesn't pack. The powdery stuff, skiing snow, not snowball snow. Then you take off your mittens and cup your hands around a lump of the stuff without trying to pack it.
The heat from your hands melts the outside, and it imediately refreezes 'cause it's cold outside. So the outside becomes icey, while the inside is puffy snow. These snowballs fly like baseballs and explode into a powdery mess on impact. (edited by Squash Monster on 12-22-05 08:26 PM) |

Originally posted by Ghost of Christmas Past On an actual battlefeild, yes, axes are what you'd use against polearms. If you have fourty guys with polearms in a line, they form a pretty prickly mess. So you send in some guys with axes or maces*, who're probably going to die. But usually if they're in sufficient numbers, someone will get through. Once you get past the actual pointy parts of the spears, a spear line is incapable of hurting you, so you get to kill two or three people and let your army through. And then they get to surround the pikemen and whoever gets behind them kills them. One-to-one? Polearm wins. The effective range for using an axe is about a foot. The effective range for a polearm is about eight feet. Guess who gets to attack first? And yes. Guns. *Neither of these are the gigantic monstrocities you seen in popular culture. Good-sized axes and maces are both about a foot long, basically a stick with a lump of metal on the end. Axes have a pointier lump, maces have one that's equally effective from all angles. |

| The Pikmin games are awesome.
I liked searching for the ship parts better than searching for treasure. And the original three types of Pikmin are more compelling than the new ones. But the second game had much cooler monsters, and the underground areas were spiffy. Yeah. |

But I studied medieval battle tactics a bit and felt like going off on a rant. You know how it is. |

| You know what would lag worst?
On my GCN, Thousand (Lap around world) Door. At that spot with a warbly looking sun... I think it was a train station? That was around 1/5 its normal FPS. I did not play it again mostly so I could avoid having to do that again. Did it do that to any of you? (edited by Squash Monster on 12-23-05 09:03 AM) |

The catagory of rectangles contains squares. Your argument is bloody stupid. If you were going to ask for my opinion on the matter of long daggers, I'd tell you it becomes a sword when the tang is constructed like the one in a sword. I'd also tell you that a long blade on a hilt with the tang construction of a dagger or knife is a bloody stupid idea. I'm allowed to call things "bloody stupid" on Christmas because blood has a festive color. |
