Oof.

My most awkward moment? Wake up to find yourself massaging your friend's girlfriend's breasts.

I haven't trusted that couple farther than I could throw them since.

My hair is curly and brown. You could change the color, if you tried, but you can't change the curly. My hair is stronger than hair product. I could style it with spray mount and it'd only last half the day. It's also water-proof, which can get annoying.

But on the bright side, it pretty much looks good whenever I want it to. Wash top, wash underside, attempt to wash the remaining dry hair, shampoo twice. Do the hot/cold thing if I feel like being shiny today the cost of some curl definition. Shake until desired number of curl clumps. Lightly towel dry. Done!

(And that self-trimming article was interesting. 'tis a shame I won't ever be able to use it.)

Two things to consider:

--Your mass, relative to that of the earth, is tiny. For reference, the average human is 65 kg. There are about 6,622,349,224 people on the planet. That makes for 430,452,699,560 kg of people. The mass of the earth, on the other hand, is 5.9742 × 10^24 kg.

Let's put those numbers next to eachother:
Earth: 5,974,200,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg
Us: 430,452,699,560 kg

-- No matter how much you weigh, conservation of momentum and Newton's Second Law are going to own you. You're in a closed system and can't change anything. The only way to change the earth's course for more than the duration of the jump would be to jump out of the earth's gravitational pull.

Look, you can't use Magic without Gathering.

It's like trying to get somebody with a sponge. Before you can get them Wet, you have to have a Gathering of Water.

People who hit people with dry sponges make Squash Monster sad.

Posted on 06-14-06 05:28 PM, in Proportional Representation Link
While proportional representation makes more sense and just feels right, for a large country like the US, proportional representation would be a naturally bad idea for reasons we've already went into -- regional interests would fragment the country and make it less stable. If we were to switch to a proportional system, we would have to do so in a way that does not break the country into too many regional interests. While this seems rather unlikely, as the larger regions would all be able elect a representative who represents them only, there are ways around this, particularly if you don't mind stealing some ideas from the French.

The system I'd like to see would work as follows:
-- Any group of people large enough to fill all the representative seats can become a recognized party by submitting an ordered list of reps, n signatures, and a document describing their party platform to the public archives.
-- On election day one, everybody can vote for any party in the nation.
-- Every party that gets over x percent of the votes gets to participate in election day two.
-- On election day two, everybody can vote for any of the parties that passed.
-- Each of these parties gets as many representatives as their percentage indicates, chosen from the top of their official list and going down. For example, if the country had 300 seats and your party won with 50% of the votes, the first guy on your list would be President/Prime Minister, and the next 150 people on your list would get seats.

A dry sponge can be thrown throwing knife style, if you're good at throwing knives. Which none of you likely are, so nevermind.

And now, A SONG!

There's lots of songs about peace.
There's lots of songs about love.
Even songs about peaches.
And valkyries.
But there's no songs about:
Sponges, sponges yeah!
Sponges, sponges yeah yeah!
Sponges suck!
Sponges suck!
Sponges absorb liquid Then you squeeze them out yeaaaaaaaah!!!

Has anyone seen Block Action yet?

It's a generic platformer with a level editor. The nifty part about it is that you can see all of everyone's levels at any given time.
The anti-nifty part is that everybody sucks.

http://www.blockaction.net/?lang=en

And the numbers of the levels I've made are: 22281, 22437, 22474, 22568, and 23989. They're all a bit hard for most people, so they might not be the best to start with.

In general: yeah, it helps a lot to know about the wall jump, how to operate the controllable platform, and how to run.

On my levels:
First: There's a huge shortcut that you can use to skip some of the most annoying parts of the level, if you remember the rules for wallkicks. That's why my score is so much better than y'alls.
Second: Yeap, this one's impossible three times over if you haven't read the manual. Whoo!
Third: I can still barely complete this level. Good job beating my time, Alastor.
Fourth: I'm surprised people have so much trouble with this, it's pretty easy. Run through the first layer, run past some spikes on the second, and stop in the larger gaps in spikes. It /is/ possible to stay in place enough to not get killed while staying in one of the small gaps, but it's suicidally hard. Just wait for a good time to run to the platform. Next layer's about the same, really. Hop up onto the trampolene, go to the next level. You have to go on top of the huge up/down thing, because the bottom will crush you no matter what. Wait for it to be down before jumping over spikes. The big double spike thing is comically innefectual. And the rest of the level is cake.
Fifth: I really liked how this level turned out too. I'll probably try to make my next ones more like this.

On other folk's levels:
Alastor 24730: You're sadistic. I can do this, but that second to last obstacle would take me far more tries than I'm willing to give it.
Asprin First: I'm amazed at how possible this is. The first two obstacles look like they should be inhumanly hard, but you have them well enough timed that they're not. Good job. But I can't get past the upside-down fall past two red spikes for some reason.
Asprin Second: Would be great if springboards weren't so gorram glitchy. I only can put up with being shoved through four springboards and tossed out the bottom of a platform so much before giving up. This is, of course, not your fault. But it still makes it unplayable for me .
Asprin Third: Very nice. Good for speedruns. One of the last jumps on the falling platforms makes me want to cry though.
Sonic 24754: I'm not a fan of glitches, I'm sorry.

...I'll have another level in a few. Watch out.

This one's either a lot harder than I intended, or I'm really out of it. I think the later.

I get to the last drop on the right side, where you have the stationary spike and the blue spike, and I can't seem to get past it. I think you have to jump up while it's going up, and then sneak beneath it as you fall, but I don't seem to have the accuracy for that.

Alastor, I hate you and your movement blocks. I keep getting to the part with the movement block and the ice and getting raped. That is just... wow.
I got past it when the blue block was up. But I can't seem to do it anymore, so I changed the level. It should be easier now.

Alastor and Tatrion: You don't need to use the wall kicks off the side of the level to get up there. Just wall kick off the fourth trampoline and up onto the platform, then immediately turn around and jump onto the fourth trampoline to victory.

Very good hack. Generally enjoyed it quite a bit. And the level design was spot on almost all the time.

The new enemy graphics were all pretty good. Though I didn't care for the hanging frame of the pidgits, they always looked like they were wearing sunglasses at first glance, and their feet didn't look right. And the big ravens walked a bit funny.

The new overworld graphics are passable, though not quite perfect. I think the big problem is that the gravestones have the oposite shading pattern from just about everything else. The actual overworld design is very solid, and I have no complaints. Though the clockwise spiral path, especially where you come out of the forest, is a bit too familiar feeling. I really liked the flow of the overworld in your water area. Star road was nice.

The graveyard tileset, while drawn well enough, is bland. If you added some tiles for cracks, words, and inscriptions and mixed the appearances up with them, it would've done miracles for the overall visual appeal.

Blaze caverns felt very empty. The lack of a ceiling felt strange, for one. Generally too bland.

The overworld screws up all the time when I play your hack, and for seemingly no reason. This doesn't happen with other hacks. I really wonder why this is.

Still, the level design in most places definately rocked. And I enjoyed a lot of the puzzles. Good job. Overall, this hack is one of the best. But this message is still going to be mostly criticism because I have a feeling you'd want it that way ^_~.

Posted on 08-09-06 03:42 AM, in How to make more sprites for Hyrule Magic Link
By more sprites you just mean raw number of them, not the number of kinds, right?

As has been said, there really isn't much you can do to add them short of a bunch of messy assembly hacking. However, you don't really need more sprites to pull off the "flourishing village" effect you desire.

If you want your towns to seem more active, there are a number of things you can do. First up, make them smaller. With less area to cover, you can make the number of sprites visable at any time greater. Ways to make a town like Kakariko smaller would include making less buildings, decreasing the size of people's houses, putting more houses in a row before having a road between them, and getting rid of people's lawns.

Additionally, use sprites that used to be inside buildings outside. People don't stay in their houses all day, so it's reasonable that more of them would be empty. Locked, even -- then you don't even need to bother making an interior. Not all of town needs to be active, either. As long as it's not too blatent and there still are a few sprites in the quieter areas, the player will remember the whole town as being as busy as the first part they see.

It will also help if you make the people depicted with the sprites more active. Almost everyone in Kakariko is just standing around -- it's no wonder the place seems so sleepy. You'll need to fix that. And don't let the fact that the sprites are just programmed to stand there phaze you -- there are lots of things people do that amount to standing around. Put a few people next to the bottle salesman and have them talk about his wares. Crowd people around somebody's window in an angry mob. Block in a market stall with people (bonus -- you don't even need to have somebody selling something if sprites block your way there). Have somebody feed chickens. Be creative.

If you can manage to take up some tile/graphics space and whatnot, make a few people out of tiles instead of sprites. If they're behind something, especially other sprites, then they don't need to talk, and you can use tiles with nobody being the wiser. And if they're next to somebody talking about how they're mean/shy/mute, they still don't need to talk and you can pull the same trick again.

And for goodness sakes, change the music.
