I believe you're correct on this. I forget the exact details, but Sam inherits the "Squid" title on the basis of being the new kid, as you said.

Already mentioned here, but the early games in the Ys series for the win. Yeah, they've been remade a bunch of times in Japan...NOW WHEN THE FUCK DO THE STATES GET THEM!?!?!?!

*Casually browses topic*

It's symbolic of the Evils of War, which Hideo Kojima knows all about despite almost certainly having never come within miles of anything resembling a front line.

DEEP AND SYMBOLIC LIKE TOOL SONGS!!1!!1

....anyway.

To be a bit more serious, if I understand what Ten is saying correctly, the fact that the cartridge is a blank is basically irrelevant in this case, due to it being encased in a sabot.

Yeah, I have to guess that they just screwed up there and hoped no one would notice.

And a game I'm playing through again in preparation for speedrunning it someday: The Magic of Scheherazade. Fun Culture Brain game where you're Scheherazade's boyfriend saving her and some other princesses by travelling through time. Good stuff.

I'd just like to say INVISIBLE PITS IN MAZES IN VIDEO GAMES FOR THE LOSE.

Scheherazade is still a great game and all, but I don't like having to blindly maneuver my way through a corridor TWICE in order to progress further in the game.

I'll, um, multi-opinion the Magic of Scheherezade. I'm actually in the process of planning for a speedrun of the game over the next few weeks-months.

The Uncanny X-Men for NES was just terrible. Given it was by Acclaim (Technically LJN, who were to Acclaim as Ultra were to Konami), none of us should be surprised.

Incidentally, I grabbed the Arabian Dream sherazaado ROM and tried to play it....then realized I don't know a lick of Japanese, and apparently I don't know how to set stuff to my A button in that one either. Doh!

I should point out that my comment toward Danielle actually had very little to do with guns.

Hit up Zany Video Game Quotes, get to the game Runaway City, and find the link that says something about Bruce Campbell.

Oh yeah, it's all sorts of not work safe (Incidentally, Skydude may remember the woman in the quote as being my very very first avatar. Somehow I avoided bannination, thanks mainly to him).

If I wanted to react to the FFVII comment, I'd make some comment about FFVI. The problem is that I don't really think VI qualifies as one of the worst games ever made, per se, just one of the most overrated, which is a whole other topic.

ANYWAY:

Hard Drivin' on the Genesis was pretty bad too. I have a review up for it on GameFAQs if you want to read just how bad.

Colin: Forgive me, I'm clearly still living in 1999-2000, which was the peak of the anti-"nu-skool" (At the time, of course) backlash against FFVII during which everyone arbitrarily proclaimed the not-that-much-older FFVI the Savior of Videogames for some reason. If you look at the VERY early GameFAQs polls of the day from about that time, one of them (Which has been repeated several times since) is "Which is the best FF game?". VI actually wins over VII.

Someone on another message board I go to summed up my opinion of VI perfectly: "It's an incredible half a game. As for the second half, I'm still looking for it; it's gotta be in the cartridge somewhere...."

Oh, back on-topic, I think Heroes of the Lance has somehow escaped mention to this point. NO MORE!!

And I've seen Seanbaby's lists before... on the NES list, I disagree with Super Pitfall (not to say it was GOOD or anything, but it's not worst ever), Mighty Bomb Jack (which I like) and MUSCLE (...pirate 31-in-1 cart, don't ask). Arguments could be made for the rest in my opinion.

As far as Seanbaby's NES list goes, it's something like 5 years old now, if not even older than that. But anyway, I disagree with, of all things, Deadly Towers being on that list. Is it bad? Yes. Is it the worst game on the NES? Certainly not; as you can probably guess, I'd give that slot to X-Men. HotL is more or less fine at #2.

Rygar on NES is one of the glitchier games in my memory. See my speed run commentary for it.

Generally, XKeeper's timers work fine from my understanding; it's user (READ: XK) input error that causes the catastrophes.

Take the blow-up-the-board timer for instance. It worked exactly like it was supposed to; the reason the board blew up was because XK was screwing around with it and accidentally set the timer to 10AM of that day--which had already passed.

GAME AVER.

To get all serious for a bit, I believe the reason for this was that there was actually a law for a time wherein shows deemed "for children" had to have a certain amount of "educational content" in them.
