So I've found that throwing on a bunch of arrow mods is an excellent way to make Light/Standard songs refreshing again.

X2/Reverse/Flat/Sudden/Shuffle for stumbling around the pad like a complete n00b the win.

(Actually, I don't think I had all of those on at the same time, but it was most of them)

The Power Drop/Pressure Gauge/Whatever the Extra Stage Life Bar Is Called SO needs to be a selectable mod.

Is it in StepMania by any chance?

Wow, that's pretty damn strict. It's relatively lenient on the home versions (13 Misses [Boos on console] I think). Come to think of it, there's this picture that seems to be from some DDR arcade mix where he also gets 13 misses (The description of the pic is that he AAA'd ee 5 times in a row and then purposely failed the ES).

Incidentally, is the Extra Stage currently the only known way to play FaxX? I'm curious as to whether there may be something even harder, either another song or another stepchart for it, that you can only get (for now) in another mode, like how Legend Road was the first place to see PSMO.

I can see why one would associate "whips and chains" with bondage, but it's more than possible to have bondage without the pain element.

I should probably stop this here, as it risks venturing into the Anya/Elmo Forum territory.

ANYWAY.

As to me being "completely insane", what I witnessed was the start of the staff discussion that eventually led to, evidently, the loss of most staff powers. I didn't see the actual "explosion" though.

And click on my location and be enlightened as to Lex Luger's greatness.

EDIT: Wow, looking at some other stuff, X fucking deactivated EVERYTHING related to staff powers.

Let's see:

-In my Zelda II New Game + run, there's a point during the boss of the third palace where my life bar literally indicates NO life, yet I survive the battle.

-Setting Rhythm & Police Heavy to X1.5 scroll speed and suddenly having it "click" in my head how to do a lot of it.

-Likewise with So Deep Heavy and X2 scroll.

-The mother of them all was probably Final Fantasy III (The REAL one, not the hugely overrated FFVI), where I was flying the airship around wondering "what do I do now?" I decided to continually fly in one direction, and "...HOLY SHIT THERE'S A WHOLE OTHER WORLD OUT HERE!!"

So having made no progress in my quest to get through MAX 300, I decided to shelve it for a bit and try some In the Groove today. The results were encouraging; I was passing a lot of the Expert 9s I couldn't do before for one reason or another...X1.5 for the win, I suppose, though I did a fair number of them on X1 as well. If nothing else, it shows I'm still improving, which is good.

Funny you mention F-Zero X, as playing the original F-Zero for the first time was a "HOLY FUCK AWESUM!!!1" moment for myself and my friend who was here at the time.
