Well, mine's 4 gigs and and I'm still having to whittle down my music collection to get everything I want on there. Still, four gigs is better than zero gigs. SORRY IF THAT OFFENDS YOU DANIELLE

Well, no point to any other non-alphanumeric characters in names either, but they keep things PHRESH. But yeah, since there aren't currently any names with quotes in them, it makes sense to disallow those and use them for the quote tags.

Posted on 12-11-05 08:45 PM, in Please [READ THIS] before showing off your new sprite comic. Link
Excellent thread. A+. Would read again

Content is a bit harder. Lemme see if I can articulate a couple things though.

One thing that I've seen a lot... people planning to introduce OHNO PLOT TWISTS in their comics and making use of AWESOME FORESHADOWING like having some shadowy bad guys give vague, shadowy pronouncements in a shadowy room. "DOES HE SUSPECT ANYTHING YET??" "NO." "GOOD SO YOU CAN BETRAY HIM. IN THE FUTURE. AND PEOPLE WILL GO LIKE OMG." Having a plan and hinting at craziness to come is fine and all, but make sure it's not completely predictable and stupid... and if you're planning ahead, try to really think through everything so you don't end up having to do a bunch of lame retcons (that is, changing things that already happened in the comic (or coming up with absurd situations to explain why they were NOT WHAT THEY SEEM) to fit in with what you decided your NEW plan is).

Self-insertion comics about you and your friends are usually lame. Just something I've noticed. Don't think I've ever seen any good ones.

Please, please, please re-read the dialogue and overall flow of a particular comic to ensure that it makes sense. Imagine you're someone else seeing it for the first time and just think whether it's easy to tell what's going on. I've tried to struggle through way too many comics where each panel was filled with characters, motion lines, and word bubbles of unknown origin and no clear sequence.

Oh, that's another thing, word bubbles. For whatever reason, even the best-produced sprite comics out there have occasional slip-ups where you naturally read the word bubbles in the wrong order and have to go back over them to make sense. Most amateur sprite comics are filled with this kind of thing, and it makes reading through them twice as hard and makes them suck twice as much. Even if it causes a little more clutter, make sure that A) it's clear who's talking and B) it's easy to read left to right, top to bottom and you'll get the dialogue in the right order. Sometimes this takes a little finagling to get right, but it's worth it.

That's all I can think of for now.

I think he means he's got a list of songs currently in winamp's playlist. You can go down to Misc or List Options (not sure which, and I think it's different between winamp 2/old skins and modern skins) and do save playlist, then you choose where to save it. Ctrl+S also does it when you've got the playlist window selected in Winamp 5, I think. I'm not sure if windows media player is compatible with any playlist-type files, but there's a couple different formats winamp can save it in, so try them all.

Played them all except the new M&L. Here's how I'd rank them:

Mario RPG
PM: TTYD
PM
M&L

They're all good. Mario & Luigi is down there for being fairly short with no crazy side projects to do (unless there's some that I don't know about). Which happens to be what Mario RPG wins for: the neat stuff you can do aside from the final boss (e.g. Culex and the Lazy Shell gear).

C is just typically more geared towards integers, so rand() gives a random integer value (between 0 and RAND_MAX, which I believe to be defined as 0x7FFF). However that's easily transformed to a usable range with a simple mod operation:

int something = rand() % 10;

That will give you a random number between 0-9 (inclusive).

?

That's not the best way to do it, it wouldn't be properly weighted. I'll show how with a small-scale example:

Let's say RAND_MAX was 8, and you wanted a number between 0 and 4, so you did rand() % 5. This has (presumably) an equal probability of coming up with each of the following:
0 % 5 = 0
1 % 5 = 1
2 % 5 = 2
3 % 5 = 3
4 % 5 = 4
5 % 5 = 0
6 % 5 = 1
7 % 5 = 2
8 % 5 = 3

You'd end up with a 2/9 chance to get any of 0, 1, 2, or 3, and a 1/9 chance to get 4. Obviously this effect diminishes as the distance between RAND_MAX and your mod increases, but there must be a better way to scale it...

So does "sold out" just mean "used to be some sort of musician and now holds a different job" or what? Help me out here.

I'll probably switch to tailoring/engineering at 60 if engineering still gives way more utility than any other profession. =o

Oh by the way where's a good place to grind and hopefully do quests around 48-50? I've heard Un'Goro is good 50 and up, but it's not efficient to deal with equal-level stuff for grinding.
