The word you're looking for is "fuck."

The word "fuzz" is only proper in the interjection, "Cheese it! The fuzz!"

Wouldn't this become a non-issure if you put everything through htmlspecialchars() like you were going to anyway? ;o

If it weren't for drift-boosting, Mario Kart would lose its appeal tome VERY fast. I need that element that I can perfect.

I completely agree with this. Well said.

I've only ever gotten this feeling in three games: SSX Tricky, Mario Kart DS, and SSBM. It's when I suddenly stop fumbling and making mistakes and just (to take the latter as an example) go "pow - whack - bam - blaow - spikeowned." Every hit connects, I know exactly what my enemy's doing and what I can do to counter it, and it feels like nothing can go wrong. This only lasts between five and ten seconds, but it is the best.

edit: I think I got the wrong idea from the OP's use of the word "control." I see what you mean now, and the short answer is "most of Half-Life 2." The fact that you're in control for virtually every event in the game is a big help.

C'mon, big 8!

?

From what I understand, having a quote in the wrong field is what's screwing things up. So if you put form values through htmlspecialchars(), it should turn quotes into ", which would show up as a quote in the text field but not affect the actual rendering of the page.

Or do I have the wrong idea entirely?

New topic: Zem is awesome.

Use direct quotes, indirect quotes, and paraphrasing to back up your thesis. Use proper citation.

Because it means you subjected us to a five-minute movie that doesn't appear to do anything interesting. You say it does do interesting stuff, but it's impossible to tell in the recording we can watch. So the fact that actually looking at the DS was more interesting than watching the recording of it is not a valid excuse for giving us five solid minutes of the boring recording.

You might think the movie really bugged me, given how much I've bothered to write, but it is not the case. I don't really care. ;o I just figured I'd explain the "not a valid excuse" comment.

Posted on 02-06-06 05:39 PM, in Does politeness = dishonesty Link
note: if this post is TLDR, read Ziff's first post here instead and pretend it was me.

I'd like to be able to pick one and stick with it. Either "all right everyone is going to know exactly what I think and if they don't like it, too bad" or "I'll say what everyone wants to hear and never ever give someone the hard truth!!" No, wait, that second one sucks. All right, I'd like to be able to pick the first one and stick with it.

So the way I see it, honesty is the ideal, but politeness is a detour that is almost necessary to living a normal life in society. It would be nice if everyone could handle the blunt truth all the time and nobody ever got offended and did something stupid, but everyone has their moments of irrationality (some more than others).

On a more day-to-day basis, it might just be in your best interest to be polite rather than honest. For example, you may think your boss is a total asshole, but telling him that probably won't help anyone, and it'll probably get you fired. It's not feasible to float from job to job until you happen to get a boss who can take everything in stride. (I'm not suggesting anyone would do this anyway. I know this stuff is obvious. I'm using it for the purpose of example, not education.)

On the other hand, I may be completely off base here, since I have no experience with an actual (non-familial) relationship, but I think for a lifelong partner it would be necessary for both parties to be able to handle honesty from each other.

So, basically, it's not realistic to pick one and run with it. It's a case-by-case thing.

Of course, there's a lot of leniency in that grey area. One might tend towards more honesty or more politeness. I'm guessing ||bass means that he tries to opt for honesty most of the time. In my case, I'd like to be honest more often than I am, but I think I usually get it when it's necessary.

$cleverVariableName = explode(' ', $string); // that's a space between two single quotes. They could be double quotes too. Doesn't matter.

YES. FIFTY DOLLARS PER USE OR REFERENCE* TO THE TERM "WILD STRAWBERRY." FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS IF YOU USE OR REFER* TO ANY OF THE OFFICIAL IMAGES.

*what constitutes a "reference" is defined solely by me. more than likely everything you've ever written or said is a vague reference (or several, layered references) to the wild strawberry, so let's hope you have plenty of money.
