| Well, I can only really think of March of the Penguins and the parody movie that came after it. Likewise, I can't think of much else than Happy Feet on the penguin front. So, I don't think that they are necessarily cliched. Happy Foot, for example, was a musical that used penguins as a way to highlight the risks of global warming/climate change. Comic book movies, normally, aren't too cliched. Look at Road To Perdition, 300, Sin City, The Hulk and a few others. They just make good sense to produce because they're an imaginative medium with an already established fan base with word-of-mouth potential. I just want to see an original take on one of these adaptations that was unique in its style (The Hulk was, but it was unfairly maligned by an ignorant audience).
But banking on something with a relatively large budget that may not have a good commercial or critical reception isn't the way that smart producers make money. However, Avi Arad has already stated that there will be a sequel.
