Nonetheless, that is massive price gouging and an alienating move on Sony's part. For shame!

Yeah, but it could be interesting. WHY CAN'T WE HAVE NEW GAMES THAT ARE ORIGINAL:!?!?!?!?!??!?!?@?!@?

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how it will turn out. Reservations, I do have, of course.

Thanks for the comments, Nick. I'm going to keep this thread alive as long as humanly possible to try to get at least a minor audience at my blog. I made a big post there. It was fun to write and I'm looking forward to finding another story to take a look at.

A price drop of at least 20% is necessary in order for the Ps3 to really get back into the game. Something really big. Otherwise, Nintendo and MS price drops will just kill them.

Totally, I've been hearing conflicting sources. Joystiq is citing a Bank of America report saying that 76% of stores have PS3 in stock.

...Mister Lover, please edit that so it makes sense.

The new Wii specific games coming out look fantastic. SSX Blur looks stupendous. Wii play. Bust a Move Bash. Most importantly are the first parties coming out. More importantly is the fact that there is going to be a Capacom game, with Inafune, for the Wii.

North America is a noticeably larger market that probably requires a bit more doting upon than Europe.

God DAMN. As stupid as that machine is, whoever was narrating that video needs to be take a course in proper speech. And GOD damn. A clone machine is NOT going to put Konami out of business.

That exact application, actually. I find it interesting that it's evidently "news" again. Same diagram, even.

No, it's news again because it is beginning a stage of production. This thing has been around for a dog's age.

Sonicandfails - think about what you're saying.

Riku - it's not a gun, it's better. It's a RAY GUN. In counter-insurgency operations it is unlikely that the enemy is using a tank. Hitting a group of people like this is not limiting the capacity of the system.

Tanks - war is still going to be about killing, because this isn't about paralyzing people. It is about temporarily disabling their fighting capacity so that they have a harder time killing the users of the system.

"I hate to me a pessimistic person, but in war, you win by whittling down your opponent's forces. This gun does not do that, only disables them. What are we going to do when they drop their guns, capture them? We would have to stun EVERY single person with a firearm before being able to capture them, and that is assuming that people don't recover at some point in time and start shooting as us again. "

Psychological warfare is a pretty big thing these days. Making people feel like they're on fire is a pretty big mind fuck that can break a troop. But given that this is a continuous effect and METAL HEATS UP LIKE A FUCKER it is an awesome denial weapon that can hold people off for a while. It's not like it targets individuals, it is cast upon a crowd.

"In 90% of combat situations, I can't see this having any purpose. MAYBE to subdue civilians that are attempting to harm troops but not dangerous enough to need to actually kill, but still needing to be taken out of the picture for a moment. "

Turn on the news for the past 50 years? That would constitute about 90% of all major combat situations. Civilians attempting to harm troops. Vietnam, Afghanistan (Soviet), Chechnya, Nepal, Somalia, Afghanistan II, Iraq II, etc.

"I think that this actually does have more purpose in Police Scenarios, but I would hate to see them just firing this willy-nilly, because unlike their other weapons, this will leave no proof. (At least, I think so.) "

It is a lot less harmful, it seems, than tear gas (which can cause permanent issues) or rubber bullets and wooden dowel shots (which can kill).

"......Wait, it comes from a TRUCK!? All they need to do is shoot the disk on top, and I'm sure they've just caused thousands of dollars worth of damage. Can we paint it like a target?"

You ever try to shoot at a big disk on top of a truck a few hundred yards away while you feel like you're on fire and there are a bunch of guys standing around with bigger weapons than yours? I thought not.

"The technology have been around..."

In a deployable weaponized platform? Not really. Lasers have been around for a looooong time. We just haven't gotten them compact or efficient enough to really be worthwhile on the active battle field as a weapon.

The Japenese Made one in WWII but it didn't work to well. It could shut down cars I f you were right next to them. It never saw action in the war at all.

Well, if you had thought for a moment you'd have realized that I was making a facetious remark. I want a link on the Japanese thing. I want some proof on that. I didn't watch some kids to lament about someone missing an episode Mythbusters.

As has been mentioned before, the presence of a university is a huge boon to virtually any town. The economy of the surrounding area is supplemented substantially, both by the influx of college-age kids who have daddy's money to throw around, and by the creation of jobs. Even at my school, which is in Poughkeepsie and only has around 4500 undergrads, there are a great deal of locals working in food service, as janitorial and cleaning staff, and certainly in miscellaneous office jobs and whatnot. The image of "drunk college kids running around causing trouble" is usually tolerated when the locals see all the cash they pump into the economy.

I think that's an untrue stereotype. Not that it's offensive or anything - not to most people, at least - but it is fairly far from the truth.

Dude, student ghetto? They bring a boon to a local economy, but students are noisy and messy. The cost of low housing on property values around the areas is usually damage enough. Particularly in bigger universities, which is why university towns can get run-down. Several thousand residents disappear for 4 months of the year. Property values fall around the student housing area, all of a sudden that economic boon leaves town. Damn.

I don't mind my sales taxes

But seriously, Sony fucked up bad on this whole thing. You'd imagine that they should have learned from watching MS botch the 360 and got a lesson on how to manage a launch from the PS2 and PSP. Yeesh. And the way that the company is handling it is just wretched. Well, I guess market domination is probably going to go to MS for quite sometime. Although the Wii is doing wiicked.lololololol shoot me.

I've been considering posting a picture, but I recently did a calculation of all the pictures taken of me in the past year and a half. Over 70% involve me drinking some sort of alcoholic beverage. The other 30% I really don't want to show.

"Wings of Honneamise" ---> YES. Fucking greatest movie ever.
Millenium Actress is a great movie.
Laputa was amazing, probably Miyazaki's best.

My only question is...Where the hell is mention of Grave of the Fireflies? That is probably one of the best movies ever made. Ever. Like. Up there with Citizen Kane best movie ever.

I could imagine the people that did Blood: The Last Vampire or Vampire Hunter D should really get in on this. I really want to have a great animated version of this. Gah! There are so many good animation styles that this could be done in But this looks really great, compared to a live-action.
