    Mmmk, now respond to mine.

    And your inability to dodge red shells seems to come from the fact that they tend to hit you from the side in this. Solution? Watch the bottom screen for which they're approaching in, and hop and turn away from that direction when holding your item or dropping it. Whoom. Blocked red shell.

    What the hell, HyperHacker. How is periodically glancing at the map and who has what items any more difficult than periodically glancing at the rear-view mirror and speedometer in an actual car? You're not going to be staring at them the entire time, and you don't have to (nor should you); just as long as you make a few quick glances every few seconds you'll be fine.
