| I'm sure I'm not the only anagram enthusiast on the board, so hear me out, for this is definitely more than the exp The idea is simple: I give out some short phrases, and whoever comes up with the best anagram of at least after a few days gets points, depending on the length of it. The first to 25 points wins. To anyone unfamiliar with anagrams, I offer an explanation of what they are and some general tips for constructing them. An anagram is a series of letters which, when rearranged, forms a word or a phrase. Punctuation, including spaces, is ignored and can be freely removed or added. Capitalization can also change. For instance, 'an ameteurish angst' is an anagram of 'anagram enthusiast.' Numbers cannot be added or removed, though. In general, however, if a number appears, it can be replaced with the letters that spell it (6 = six, 8 = eight, etc.). Now for the tips for constructing. It is helpful to break down a phrase to be anagrammed into its component letters to keep you from focusing on the patterns you already see. Remove all punctuation and capitalization, place each letter alphabetically, then separate them into vowels and consonants. This makes it much easier to determine what letters you have to draw from. For instance, 'For instance' would be 'aeio cfnnrst.' Then, identify any uncommon letters that you need to get rid of early. These would be your Zs and your Qs, yes, but also your Ks, Xs, and Vs. Using these should be your top priority - make words out of them. At the same time, you need to consider any large words you can for use. This is a bit less important, and anagrams with several large words seem clumsy, but when you find something you can make 'unconventional' of it's almost a crime not to use it. The larger words and the words with the uncommon letters may be the focus of sentence, and if you find them you should build around them. It's not good to find several words to use, but to not be able to present them in a logical order. It is especially important not to be trapped at the end with letters you can't make words of, which is why this should be done first. However, even if you have a very good word or a word or series of words that gets rid of a lot of problem pieces, you should abandon it if it uses too many vowels. There are only a handful of words without vowels, and you always need a supply of them. You should not let your unused vowel count fall below one third of your unused consonant count. At this point, you should have some idea of what your phrase is going to be about. If you can make several sentences, that's good - use your remaining letters to construct your less important sentences and your articles, prepositions, conjunctions, and what have you. Remember, though larger anagrams can be daunting, they are generally much easier than smaller ones, merely more time consuming - the more letters are at your disposal, the more able you are to say something that means something. Most importantly, the anagram is worthless if it makes no sense. Little sense is fine if it is understandable, bit in general something logical is best. If I were to give you 'hello, good sir' I would not want to see something like 'shoe gill or do.' 'Igloo holders' would be find, as would even 'gold soil hero,' or 'older hog soil.' With that said, let's see the first phrases to be used: 1. A very small few aren't bad, and none of them are good. (1 point) 2. Sometimes, things just need to slow down. (1 point) 3. Erratic dreams (2 points) (edited by Emperor Dalek on 12-24-06 07:55 PM) |

| It would be http://wildworld-crossing.lenzus.com/content/40176065/97915522.jpg (assuming they allow hotlinking - I'd have hosted it on tinypic).
Also, this is neither funny nor interesting. What is supposed to be funny or interesting about this? (edited by Emperor Dalek on 12-23-06 10:53 PM) |

| What exactly are you talking about? That blog, or the fact which we've all known for quite some time (that things can be destroyed when other things hit them)?
Because if it's the second, you should be talking about it in gen gaming, in the Wii thread. And if it's the first... It's a blog. So? The only even remotely interesting thing is the Wii-controlled home, but once you realize how he did it it's obvious and feh. Impressive, but feh.
