wite and Dani: First it's really hard and impossible to work with, but if you just let it set out for five to ten minutes it gets soft enough that you can scoop it out. It's not really like snow at all, though. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Okay, For about nine months now, I've been running on a pretty low-end Dell laptop (Latitude something, pretty crappy). This morning, I dunno, it was just getting really screwed up. I try to open Opera and it freezes. No way to do anything, so I have to manually power it down. Okay, that's unusual... It probably got corrupted somehow. Update Opera, it still happens. Uninstall and reinstall Opera, and it still happens. It is at this time I have to wonder if the drive got dirty from the sand that got into it, as that seems the most likely explanation at this point due to my fantastic ignorance of computers in general (and yet, sadly, I am the most knowledgable of everyone I know in real life. Hmm.). This time when booting it up it says there was a problem shutting it down (Yeah, I think I knew that) and goes to chkdsk. Says the drive is dirty. Yeah, I figured as much.
Lacking anything better to do, I decide to do basic maintenance on completely unrelated things since I don't know enough to fix the problem. I start a defrag even though that doesn't make much sense, won't solve any problems, and. Eh. Comp crashes. I run chkdsk, and apparently there were many, many files corrupted, and the security IDs for at least 50,000 files had to be rewritten. That gets done and it boots into Windows and there's no bloody start menu and when I try to open Opera through the desktop shortcut I haven't deleted since I just installed it again, it freezes. Again. Yay! So now windows is broken, too. I think chkdsk rewriting so many things totally screwed it up. I could reinstall, but that wouldn't fix the main problem, I don't think. I probably need a new hard drive. Therefore I am at an impasse. I believe my move is to call the idiots at Dell and get them to send a hard drive and the necessary software my way so I can install Windows again and go about as if nothing ever happened. However, I wanted to run it by the people here who know what they're doing just to make sure that this move is in any way sane. Another option would be to purposefully get it to run as inefficiently as possible with what I have left, set it in a horridly unsafe environment, and try to get it to explode; I hear Dell laptops are prone to doing that. They tried to revoke Pluto's planetness, like, 20 years ago, didn't they? I thought they decided that it was since it was so popularly thought of as such and because it had a moon. |

I'm miles above everyone else on the board, but I figured I'd post this question here anyway, since this seems like the best place. Here goes-ies.

I can't seem to decide what kart is better - the Egg 1, or the Dry Bomber. Certainly, these two karts are far and away the best, but... Eh. The Dry Bomber's advantage is obvious - the acceleration is better, and thus it recovers from items more easily, it recieves longer boosts from miniturbos, and thus it is much, much better for PRBing. The Egg 1 can still PRB, and it's faster, it can dodge blue shells much easier, and when not PRBing it recieves less of a penalty for going off-course. Hmm. They really are about even... It is pretty much able to strike anyone, yeah, but like any illness, a lot of people are less susceptible or more susceptible than others. Some people, such as those in my family, are nigh invulnerable to it. |

Always take a shower after that sort of thing. Chlorine itches like mad. There's a reason it's used there; because it's poison. Also, outdoor water parks for the lose They've got one in Oregon, North Clackamas Aquatic Park, which is just the best one I've ever been to. It's indoors obviously. I'm sure there must be some which are much, much better in places which are less rural than Oregon...

Oh dear god. That was the best movie I've ever seen, in the history of movies, about snakes on airplanes. It was like the ultimate B-Movie. The execution was surprisingly good, but the atmosphere was what you go for in a film like that, and it was just freaking fantastic. There were snakes, and those snakes were on a plane. And they bit people. Oh man, did they ever bite people.
|
Aughaughaughaughaugh If I had one complaint, it's that it took so long to get going. 20 minutes before the plane is in the air and another 15 before people notice the snakes? But even that had a purpose. You see all the people going in, and you just have to think to yourself: Who's gonna get bitten? Is it the gangsta rapper? The videogame fanatic bodyguard? The champion kickboxer? The mother? The baby? The steward? The young stewardess? The young blonde stewardess? The elderly stewardess just about to retire? The pilot? The copilot? The child? The other child? I could go on for awhile on this, but it's not that important. The previews made everything better, too. Our theater was screwed up and played most of the early ones, including the commercials, upside down and backwards. Like, the picture was rotated 180 degrees, and they all played backwards. And they kept fading out. It was hilarious for some reason... Also, I got a bunch of red vines and gummy worms and threw them at the rest of the audience periodically (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-18-06 03:48 AM) (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-18-06 03:51 AM) (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-20-06 01:50 PM)

It was like, the ultimate B-Movie. The execution was surprisingly good, but the atmosphere was what you go for in a film like that, and it was just freaking fantastic. I did my damnedest to contribute, too; like I said in the thread in Entertainment/whatever, I threw gummi worms and red vines during snake attack sequences. (I got this idea from the theater managers, who suggested it. I'm amazed I was the only one who actually did so.)
|
Edit: asdf you apparently have it all wrong. You must now go watch this movie to see how it really is. It's just so brilliant. (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-18-06 03:46 AM) (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-18-06 03:47 AM)
