The lighthearted look just doesn't seem to fit on a character who's been oppressed a great deal and then is murdered by a madman. I'm just going to say exactly what I need to say. I just feel that the style itself is full of fluff and has no real merit. Certainly, it's better than what I can do, but... I don't try, and have no practice with it, so that's not hard. I don't know exactly how to put it; I just know from the deepest corners of my soul that this is subpar work. Additionally, I am deeply frustrated by the fact that Taryn is getting so much praise for this. I view this piece as a light sketch; I just don't understand why anyone likes it. It just doesn't seem to have any value; the style itself takes little real skill and the only thing that makes it notable is that it was done with a ballpoint pen. It's not like she does fantastically better work when she can correct her errors and apply color to things, either. I feel it would just be better if Taryn gave up this fluff and concentrated on something more realistic, with a better style, something that simply had more artistic value. Hell if I know how to define it; again, I don't exactly have a major in art. I just know... I don't know how, I just KNOW... That this is not good work. I don't know how to say this any clearer. And yet, everyone just dismisses what I have to say as being that of an opinionated idiot, which frustrates me even more... I just don't know what to do anymore.
