Glyph Phoenix: Just for that, Pipe and I get to hit you in the stomach. But since pipe has no arms, I get to hit you in the stomach with Pipe.
Glyph Phoenix: *hits you in stomach with pipe*
Kyouji Craw: You forget how fat I am, apparently.
Glyph Phoenix: Wow. I didn't know you were fat in the first place.
Kyouji Craw: I have NEGATIVE fat. I'm so thin you went right through me
Glyph Phoenix: I bet you only got to NEGATIVE fat because you got so fat you overloaded the integer.
Glyph Phoenix: And you ended up negative fat.
Kyouji Craw: Yeah, I got the idea from pokemon.
Glyph Phoenix: I was wrong. It's not an integer if it can be negative.
Glyph Phoenix: Well, signed integer.
Kyouji Craw: Dude.
Kyouji Craw: The way it works is it works in FFF.
Kyouji Craw: Thing is though
Glyph Phoenix: It works in FFF? That's tweird.
Kyouji Craw: everything 7FF and below
Glyph Phoenix: Bytewise.
Glyph Phoenix: It should be FF or FFFF.
Kyouji Craw: counts as negative
Kyouji Craw: because it's all decreased by 800.
Glyph Phoenix: Yeah, that's a signed integer. An odd one and a half byte signed integer...
Kyouji Craw: I got to FFF and looped over to 000.
Kyouji Craw: And kept going.
Glyph Phoenix: If it were unsigned you'd loop over to 0 and not be -7FF. You'd just be 0.
Kyouji Craw: sso now I'm 4C3, which counts as negative because of physics.
Glyph Phoenix: Pfefh. Physics are retarded.
Glyph Phoenix: They were too cheap to use 16 bit integers.
Glyph Phoenix: Stupid God.

Edit: Apparently you guys all suck at knowing what's freaking hilarious.

Now, originally I wasn't going to even release this demo now. Only three worlds are complete, which totally (Totally!) isn't an even number. However, it's been so freaking long since I last posted that I was even working on one (not counting that one thread a few days ago about movement pipes) that I just figured I might as well.

Things you can expect from this hack:
  • Stuff... Presumably.
Here are screenshots:

This is what we in "the biz" call a title screen. If you don't watch the title screen demonstration all the way through... Uh, you're missing out, I guess.

These are overworld shots. Duh.

This is the graveyard. See the statues, and fence, and ghosts, and skeletons? It's totally a graveyard. Totally.

Some sort of crystal cave in the sky. It made more sense in my head. Also, look at the eyetites. Ha ha, wacky.

Can YOU find the secret levels?

After leaving the first world, Mario travels further into the newly discovered section of Dinosaur Land, discovering that his enemies have robbed the world of the majority of its color, leaving only depression! What a fiendishly cliched development!

This cave is less in the sky than the previous one, and also it's more depressed. These screenshots aren't really ordered at all.

It's a castle. And there's ghosts.

The second level. It contains stuff.

Ah, the obligatory water level. For some crazy idea I also decided to make a water WORLD. Don't worry, it's not in this demo. But it will be in the next one.

It's a bonus stage. Glyph punched me until I agreed to make a new one.

Not pictured: Fun.

With that out of the way, I'll link you to the demo.

How...

The only similarities are purely superficial... Let's make a list, okay?

  • The star itself is shaped the same. This can rather be attributed to the fact that it's, uh, star world, and not... Moon World, or... Not Star World.

  • Um, you use star world warps to get there.

Insofar as I can tell, that's the extend of the similarities... It plays completely differently.

It's not bad; just really empty. Spruce it up.
That I shall grant you. It's a fairly short section pictured, and not the wisest choice for a screenshot.

Too predictable.
Could you elaborate on this point?

Y'know, I noticed that myself not too long ago. Near as I can tell, it started when the ROM got big enough that it needed to be expanded to 4MB... But maybe it was always like that, even in the original, and I just never noticed. If anyone knows what to do to make them move, just tell me

I don't really know how to explain the joke. Either you get it, or you don't. NSNick and Koitenshin get it, and I'm pretty sure HyperHacker would, too.

Aaaanyway.

For everyone commenting on the screenshots...

Eh. I would rather prefer if I didn't post any screenshots at all, but then I'd get yelled at for it. Truth of the matter is, you really can't tell what a hack is by screenshots, because they fail to convey the most important part of it, the level design. The only thing screenshots do is that if a hack is absolutely terrible, they make this fact evident some of the time.

No... They originally had text, but then my ROM got corrupted, and when porting the last two levels I had made over to the backup I made three days prior, I forgot to put the text for them back in.

"You've found the
yellow baby Yoshi!
Feed it, and it
will grow up with
an amazing power."

"When a yellow
Yoshi has
something in its
mouth and jumps,
it crashes to the
ground with a
damaging shockwave
to defeat enemies."

And 12-bit implementations themselves, on the other hand, are quite common, right?
