Must be a header setting.

Header is four bytes setting, four byte instrument pointer, then the track pointers.

First setting is the # of tracks, the rest is... various stuff. Compare these three bytes from Jake's Theme with some of the other songs.

I once replaced the intro movie in Pokémon Ruby with a simple splash screen. It worked on the hardware, didn't change shit and basically made the game start faster because it was shorter than the movie.

This was done in place of the movie's actual code. Not at all like dumpgroup intros.

I remember that! Some dude's business program was stolen and presented with a different name and color scheme at a convention or something, and the original author asked the demo guy what this and that key combo did. The demo guy said "nothing", and was persuaded to try.
