I had my Social Scientific Method exam today (and I wouldn't be surprised if I'll have the exact same exam come February ), which means I ended today. Now I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet (and being able to sleep whenever I want to, without having to get up to study).

Deist. I believe in a higher power that doesn't do nothing. I don't believe in miracles, I don't believe in divine intervention, I don't believe in the power of praying, I only believe that there is one (or more) higher power(s), and that it has no influence on our lives. I also believe in the undying soul, though I am undecided on what happens to it after death. I find the concept of non-existance (and I apologize to anyone I might offend now) utterly absurd. It's a concept that is foreign to me (and to all other living creatures), and I don't think anyone could really explain what non-existance is, or what it would be.

Would some of you fine Americans tell me what it is with your people and your animosity towards crusts. One of the weirdest things I (and the other exchange students I knew) found when I was 'cross the pond was that people there would actually not eat the crust of their bread. This is despite the fact that American bread does not have crust, but rather a thin edge where the bread has a slightly different colour.

Hah! I have seriously fallen into the pit of has-beens. To think that a few years ago, I was the most active poster on this entire board, and one of the most known, now not a single one has mentioned me. Oh well, no one to blame but my own lazy, non-posting self...
No, as for my likes.. I guess all the people I've known here for years are great, Colin, NSNick, Max, Kirtbynite, Ziff, Anya... Those are the ones I can mention from the top of my head that I think are still active around these parts. Then, well, there are a lot of fresher acquaintances of mine that I like, but I shouldn't mention anyone, because I can't remember everyone (I probably can't remember everyone from the oldies anyway, so not to worry). |

I am looking forward to Narnia, it starts in Norway two days following christmas night. I was always a big fan of C.S.'s books, and I think BBC's Narnia minifilms are fantastic.

Originally posted by Tamarin Calanis What, you're pointing to a specific period of time and say "that's non-existance"? That's not what I asked for. I asked you to explain what non-existance was like, not to say "I don't know nothing about that specific timeperiod, so I must have been non-existant then". Besides, time is a really interesting thing in religion. Back in Junior High, I wrote a midterm assignment on why the existance of time made me believe in God. Basically, since human beings cannot understand, controll, or measure time, there should be a higher being to controll it all. I don't think time flows the way we perceive it to flow, and such, it's quite silly to me to point at a specific time period and say "that there is non-existance". And, well, the poll choices are quite silly. Neopaganism has about 1 million believers world wide, yet it is split into Neopaganism and WIcca. Christianity wiith its 2.1 billion believers does not become Catholic, Protestand, and Orthodox. Islam, 1.3 billion, yet no separation between Sunni and Shi'a. Buddhism, 376 million, is only grouped with "other"... (edited by The SomerZ on 12-17-05 10:05 AM) |

Champions League, Round of 16:
Barcelona vs. Chelsea Yeah, Barcelona has a powerful team, and they'll be looking to avenge last year's loss. The big question is, of course, will Mourinho ruin another ref's life and career by making false allegations that he was working with Barcelona again? Real Madrid vs. Arsenal Both teams are far from where they once were. However, Real Madrid seems more capable, I think. They can pull themselves together for this, don't think Arsenal will. Werder Bremen vs. Juventus Juvetus is just one size too large for Bremen, I'm afraid. Bayern München vs. AC Milan Yup, one of the biggest clashes of the round of 16. AC Milan might be most people's winner, but I have, as always, great belief in Bayern. PSV vs. Lyon Lyon are currently unbeaten in France, a league that's currentlly bigger than the Dutch. Lyon will take this home. Benfica vs. Liverpool Liverpool are looking to set a new world record in matches without conceding a goal or something. They are pretty much superb, and may well snatch silver in the Premier League this year. Villarreal vs. Glasgow Rangers I honestly believe Villarreal will take this, but I'm going to bet Rangers anyway, just to annoy Colin. Ajax vs. Inter Inter is strong, and may go far. If their supporters behave. (edited by The SomerZ on 12-17-05 09:32 AM) |

That, good sir, was stupid. Narnia is a fantastic story, and all books about Narnia rock!

Well, I'm going home Monday. It's a 2 hour flight + 2 hours of driving going home, so it's not like I'm going home very often. This should be a nice relaxation from the student life, though.

10: Gorillaz - Demon Days
Nice songs, nice sound. Feel Good Inc. has the ability of being an overplayed radio hit that you just don't get tired of listen to. 9: Kent - Du & Jag Döden What can I say? It's poppy, yes, but it's classy, and dreamy, and definitely something to get lost in. Besides, Joakim Berg's voice is beautiful. 8: Institute - Distort Yourself Sure, grunge died more than 10 years ago, and sure, Gavin Rossdale was never the greatest of the grunge heroes, but he constantly proves that there is room for his music, and Distort Yourself is probably his greatest work since 1994's Sixteen Stone. 7: The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button So I've never been a big Club/Dance fan, but The Chemical Brothers is something special. Sure, their hit single Galvanize got tedious after a while, but this album has some gems that are great for their purpose, dancing, working out, driving, and, ironically enough, relaxing. 6: Calexico/Iron and Wine - In The Reins (Technically an EP, but what the heck) Beautiful, laid-back, relaxing. I can get lost in this, listening to it over and over, before I realize I've heard through it 50 times and should have gone to bed. 5: Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies To Paralyze When I first heard this album, I was heavily disappointed. I saw it as Josh Homme's worst work ever. As time progressed and I gave it a couple of more chances, I realized it was actually a lot better than I first thought. Now it has grown on me to such an extent that I must say it's probably QotSA's best album. 4: Garbage - Bleed Like Me Don't listen to the negative reviews. So what if Garbage does make their sound a little too ninetiesish. The nineties were a good decade, and this is a good album. It's been played over and over on my iPod on the bus to the university this year. 3: Starsailor - On The Outside Starsailor takes a small step away from their mellow music and makes an album that is more rock than their previous two. It really, really works. This is a fantastic album, rivalizing 2001's debut album Love Is Here for Starsailor's best album. 2: Foo Fighters - In Your Honor Foo Fighters' best ever album, both sides, the rock and the acoustic, work out great. This one may be listened to over and over. 1: Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth Not many surprises here. For those who know me, this one was pretty much given from the start. Anyway, Noel and Liam reestablish themselves as the gods or rock'n'roll, this time accompanied by Zak Starkey, as well as Gem and Andy Bell from 1999, making the band more professional, and less ladsy. All in all, this album is their best since 1995's (What's The Story) Morning Glory?. |

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Children must know why they've done something wrong, not that they've done something wrong. Corporal punishment certainly doesn't help teaching children what it is about what they've done that is bad, and it doesn't teach them anything useful for them to function as members of society.
Also, as it is with Sweden, it is with Norway, it is illegal to hit your children here. |

Originally posted by Kutske Ok, please do explain: What school of pedagogical thought are you basing your statements on? That what you're saying there ain't nothing like anything I've never heard no one say before. And what the heck is Supernanny? Seems like some of you guys have not really caught up with the development of pedagogy in the 20th century. Children are no longer seen as "incomplete humans", but rather as human beings with the same rights as you and me, as well as many other special rights to protect them. The 20th Century, which was rightly proclaimed by some to be the "century of the children", has seen the creation of such things as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (which - surprise, surprise - the US has not ratified (making them and Somalia the only countries not to do so)). Children are now treated as proper human beings, and just as you wouldn't use corporal punishment against an adult, you wouldn't use it against a child. And Geeogree, my parents were never subjected to corporal punishment. But thank you for generalizing the experiences from your back yard to the rest of the world. |

Apple will start selling the MacBook Pro (stupid name, looks like a wonderful computer). I must have this thing, simply must have it. I mean, just look at the specs. The Intel-processor should mean that compatibility issues gradually should disappear.
In related news, Apple also announced an iPod with an FM-radio. All in all, an impressive line-up of new hardware from their latest expo. |

I'm reminded by that "I'll just make lamb"-comment in My Big Fat Greek Wedding when I see that chicken and meat is separated. Espacially since the thread-starter is Greek and all.
