Yes, you can even use N64 images. I remember doing the same thing for StarFox64. It's nice, but a HUGE archieve, hehehe

If mind doesn't fail, I used Cool Edit. Well, even GoldWave can handle it.

Don't think about sample replacement. What GoldWave or CoolEdit does is to read the data using a certain format that's acceptable. In other words, by replacing a sample, you're OVERWRITTING its original sound compression format with something else. The idea of opening ROM imagens in a sound editor is merely for fun, not for hacking. You CAN do it, but remember to get a bad final result...

Hmm... Think about writting your own game. What's the difference between hacking drastically a certain game and creating your own from scratch? The efforts to hack must be something to improve/modify a few aspects of the game, and NOT the entire game engine. Rockman engine does NOT fit a possible Sonic engine. Rockman shoots, climb ladders... Sonic jumps and rolls like crazy, heh... very different context.

Anyway, Rockman engine isn't the best one, as Netsplit can confirm this. In other words, it's buggy. Its fixing is possible, but requires attention. Well, that's it. ;;..

Please, don't waste your time and READ the damn SM64 old thread as I said before! It's already documented, no needed.

Indeed. I don't think that a Rockman game would fit a Sonic hack, or even to throw cold water... ;;..

As additional note, it's quite obvious that palette values are stored into PPU $3F00-3F1F space, as palette RAM. Hacking NES memory spaces will NOT change the game, but only its RAM memory. This way, take the palette values as 0F xx xx xx 0F xx xx xx ...

From here, the game could store it by skipping the 0Fs or storing it completly. An easy hexaeditor could search this string very easily. Dito.

You did some mistake while overwritting ROM data, thinking it would be palette data. Personally, I don't know such toll you mentioned, but the BEST tool is an hexa editor, like HexWorkshop. Plus, NES palettes? Well, they're stored uncompressed for MOST OF games, since Rockman 6 uses a weird way for palettes.

Anyway, be sure to locate palette values in the ROM... and tell us the game/system you did that.

It's required to disassemble the game in order to understand what are you doing, or even a small part of it. You overwrote an assembly opcode.

Posted on 10-01-06 12:06 PM, in If you were to make a Super Metroid hack, what would you do first? Link
Seriously, I'd like to "port" the original NES Metroid into Super Metroid engine. You know that a few pieces of rooms *are* available, but I'd like the entire game. I could do such hack, but SMILE still doesn't fit my wishes... ;;

Awesome, thanks for the pictures. By the way, did you figure out the "event system"? I mean, certain conditions to bypass an area, grab an item, beat a boss...? Example, Tourian after/before Mother Brain.

When Samus receives the IceBeam, she does NOT receive the old Power Suit. She just becomes coloured like it. Just pay attention to the ending sequence... About the IPS patch, it's a nice hoax you heard or wanna spread around.

Man, something's wrong... I load the ROM data but nothing is displayed. If I try to change anything in the editor, it gives a runtime error. Check it out, please.

EDIT- Never mind, do I really need to click the "Load ROM" buttom, eh?
EDIT2- Do you care to assign "right click=copy tile, left click=paste" ?

By the way, it seems the "save" feature is still disabled..? ;;
