There has to be a way to flag it as a false positive and have AVG ignore it, but I can't seem to find such a feature.

Then again, is there a way to hack yy-chr and remove the "virus" bits without breaking it?

Here's one: Hammer Bros can't be knocked out if Small Mario hits the brick they're standing on. This shouldn't be the case.
Another thing I've noticed is that they use the Yoshi-spit noise when they throw their hammers. Isn't the hammer-toss sound from All-Stars in there somewhere?

I'm making a hack. It will be called "Super Mario Awesome World X". There is no progress whatsoever at the moment, and it may even change its name as it's still in the idea stages. Heck, you could say I just made it up on the spot to show you that nobody likes topics about prospective hacks that may or may not exist.

YY-CHR was recently flagged as a virus by several popular scanners, even though it worked just fine prior to that and doesn't appear to carry a virus at all. As such, you won't be allowed to run it without disabling your virus scanner software.
If that's not an option for you, you might want to try other SNES graphics editors like Tile Layer Pro.

Forehead-slappingly, AVG does not have an exceptions list. The only way to run YY-CHR with AVG installed is to disable the resident shield.

I don't recommend leaving it off, though.

I wouldn't mind seeing these graphics used over and over again in hack after hack, actually. They're fun to look at.
As for that last Boo Buddy you haven't finished yet, I always figured he was supposed to look like his mouth was full or he was holding his breath.

Great new group of sprites, especially considering that you're actually trying to work inside the game's limitations instead of expanding it with some form of hacking.

Just a few comments... Dino Torch should have a little bit of flame coming out of his mouth in the side view, because otherwise it looks weird. Secondly, the slight bend in the Feather should probably go the other way, considering its flight path.
The dithering effect on Blargg doesn't look all that bad, actually. Makes him seem more like a creature that's been hanging around in the lava long enough to get pretty rough-skinned.

Gosh, I didn't think this would occur outside the Zelda Classic community.

Long story short: The domain for ZCWorld expired and was promptly farmed out as yet another worthless hub for advertisers.

The site still exists, but until it's sorted out, just replace http://www.zcworld.net with http://67.15.107.11/ instead. The URL should then work.

He's already stated several times that he intends to make these graphics freely available.

Why else would he make it so easy to do this?

Yep. Nothing is unrippable if you know what you're doing. Even if he were to lock his hack, someone with enough determination would find a way to get the graphics anyway. Heck, I ripped this just from the spritesheets he's posted already.
All this fear of "dumbasses will use it and then it will suck as a result OMG" is ultimately pointless. As I learned with Zelda Classic, good graphics don't suck because some idiot kid can't make them shine. It's just the idiot's hack that sucks, period.

Now, as for the screenshot itself, take a look: I noticed Mario's default stance looked a little slim, so I made him portlier. Icegoom, I recommend you apply the Luigi GFX patch so the Bros can use different graphics... the original sprite would, for instance, be better on Luigi.
