The gameplay should be the same which is what counts when playing bomberman. The problem with the new look is that it is too far a transition from the old to the new. The old bomberman could have easily been updated to look more modern in the same way the hi-def shots of the new sonic the hedgehog look smoother and more "adult" despite the fact he pretty much remains the same.

I hate this belief in the video gaming world that all people want is titulating adult games and how that is the only way to get atmosphere in a title. Adult themes and atmosphere are in no way connected. Wind Waker was the cutesiest game ever with the cell shading yet it managed to still retain the atmosphere that Zelda titles have always had.

Bomberman has always been somewhat of a party game with its bright colours, flashes of light and multiplayer aspects. Those two linked pictures seem to show the game off as a dark dull depressing world of dropping bombs on apponents heads. Bomberman has always been about the gameplay but surely the colourful atmosphere of the originals was something that complimented that gameplay. If they really wanted to make bomberman more adult couldnt they have just made the bombs explode bomberman in a shower of blood.

Love the look. Thought it was about time i posted and gave my regards to your hack. Looking nice. I'm not a fan of zelda hacks where the dungeon or overworld objects dont connect properly cutting into the already limited atmosphere of zelda, so its great to see it looking rather nicely laid out.

Apart from the door in links house its all perfect. You would be able to actually have that doorway move forward so it fits correctly with the way youve made link's house two-story. Just press num_pad_6 until the two layers of the doorway (the frame and the exit to the overworld) are further from the edge of the room. The "uncle" sprites movement isn't dependant on the doors vertical position just the horizontal so it shouldnt be affected by the change.

otherwise keep it up.

since incorporating the dark world's gfx and palettes into the light world my hack has taken a very colourful variation to the lttp look. Finish working on this area just now. Since i havent shown much off for a while.

I'm still in the process of converting link from minish cap graphics to fit in my hack so i know how difficult it is to change link. Even more so if you alter the body. so good on ya

Nice job to all those who have posted pictures.

Thanks for your words & advice celice, asdf and edragon. The water is a hard element to change graphically and parts of the original gfx was only there for aesthetic reasons and by removing them i have a very varied selection of animated tiles. Usually those water tiles are placed next to cliffs and look ok.

Problem is im still limited by the amount of tiles which is the reason the water may look odd. Only way i can see the issue disappearing is if i find the asm for loading death mountain and dark world tilesets.

I took a month off hacking to engulf myself in php for a possible future career in website design. Now thats past ive entered back into Z3 and found my speed has picked up. I have not only added two original tilesets to my hack in 3 days but also made the two areas to go with them.

Enjoy these pictures of my currently named "Lon Lon Farm" - Yeah i know original

thanks edragon. Transfering gfx from the dark world isnt so much an issue because its already set to fit with z3's palettes and layout. The main issue is converting minish cap gfx which usually has 1 or 2 extra colours than zelda 3. I mainly get round this by making the darkest colour that isn't used for outlines black as well. Its all about seeing what does and does not fit. I even use dark world palettes in the light world - which is where most of my hack is based - all i had to change was the dark world's green water to the same palette as the light world's blue light water.

As for a release...possibly sometime this year but most likely next. Hopefully Euclid's and Seph's hack will be released soon to keep you entertained. I learnt most my shit from those two so im in great appreciation and anticipation of their hack.

Click START -> Run and type in "cmd" to bring up the command prompt. You then either type location of zcompress or drag in the icon from which ever folder its in. Id recommend dragging it in as when youre working with multiple files like .bin .smc and zcompress itself it doesnt become confusing.

zcompress does not have a gui so youll need to read the readme to learn how to decompress and recompress the graphics back into the Zelda 3 rom. Also using Zcompress completely cuts out any complications with zelda 3 rom memory errors that occasionally appear in Hyrule Magic. Also HM wont inexplicably crash for no apparent reason.

Few things to say about Zelda as usual with it being my favourite series and all.

I have never had an issue with the WW graphics style and i accept that they want to use it once again. To me it always had more atmosphere to it than people gave it credit for and loads more than i was actually expecting from it but perhaps at some point Nintendo should really take the series in another direction that doesnt include the WW style or the (more preffered by many) style of OoT which have both been used to death IMO.

I'm also not worried about the gameplay which to be honest is never the part of Zelda that is questioned, the thing i am worried about though is length of play. Has anyone noticed the continous shrinking of most, if not all Nintendo games. The ones that sucked are most often the ones that lacked dungeons and by lacking dungeons they also seem to lack a lot of diversity which usually comes with them. I mean nobody can argue that Minish Cap didnt have shit loads of spirit but it was also way too small as was WW.

I have been less than impressed with games that use stylus control and despite Nintendo's persistance it can no way replicate the 64/GC's analog stick. Don't get me wrong i like the stylus in a lot of games but so far for topdown/3d character movement titles (such as Animal Crossing, Mario 64DS etc.) it has been quite crap.

Final issue I can see with the limited footage and images avaliable and i do stress it is only limited so far but the dungeons to me look like the worst design Nintendo has ever come up with. It all seems to be one big square maze made up of blocks and relatively unimpressive textures which don't reflect on anything Zelda has done before. Worst of all it reeks of bad PS1 levels or the piss awful Megaman 64 randomly generated dungeons. I'm hoping it gets spruced up a little.

Also, I don't mean to undermine your efforts, but quantity doesn't nesseseraly mean quality. Five big square rooms with a couple of space pirates, in my opinion is NOT better than just 1 room with a cool bomb-maze puzzle...with space pirates shooting you. Not to say your hack doesn't have that..just giving my opinion is all. I eagerly await this hack. Good Luck.

If the level of design from this room shows how the rest of his hack will be, i won't have any worries at all about the quality of the finished product.

Cannot upload it to the board because max size is only 125kb and Oroch's guide is over 18 megabytes. luckily however i found it in my large folder of z3 reference material and have uploaded it to the web. Can't guarantee it'll be up their forever so download and keep it safe. As for sticking it on ROMhacking.net that's really up to Oroch himself if he wants it on there or not.

the guide can be got here . Right click & save as to download.

Yes, there is a lot of information in the guide which cannot be found on the forums or archives. A lot of it is 'how to' stuff, but the reason I was wanting to see it again was to compare their RAM-Map with the findings I've made recently.

Orochimaru was working on updating the guide with a bunch of data both himself, Euclid and I have either stumbled onto or looked into.

Several elements like tile/object types, unused palettes in HM, hex hacks like Euclid's HUD replacement and my own findings of the overworld entrances to zora's domain/master sword area will hopefully get documented at some point. I imagine once people have got round to finishing their hacks theyll begin to release more data. Seph's guide is definately an impressive collection of helpful tips, how tos and lists on HM & Z3 you're ever likely find, Just could do with another update at some point soon.

Just wants to know if anyones finished a hack yet for zelda 3. There are not any complete hacks but a couple of demos should be around somewhere. The two that will be complete and are closest to completion would be Parrallel Worlds and Dark Prophecy..both of which look great. If you had looked on the second page of this forum you would have noticed a helpful thread called Zelda hacks which covers all of the hacks avaliable or currently being worked on.

Thought it was about time i add a comment. I'm loving the work. This being the very beginning of your editr means there is plenty to show off and its great that you do just that.

Respectable to see how much you have accomplished in the last few weeks and i am looking forward to playing around with this upon release.

Something which i hadn't noticed in the header editor was the ability to add the rain affect in areas. I'm assuming that this is just a background? also do you have any plan to add a graphics editor into MZME?

Ok my advice...

1. Read that guide until you know it off by heart.
2. Make backups...
3. Be prepared for the Z3 rom to fuck up.
4. Make BACKUPS!!!
5. Mess with the editor until you know its quirks.
6. When editing areas make sure you take perspective into account its the key to making your hack not look out of place.

Good luck to you.

Haha rapists are funny??!...god you're a dipshit. how could anyone find this fun. "forces you to commit heinous atrocities" - Why on earth would i want to play a game like that? At least grand theft auto plays off stereotypes created by modern society but here's the thing: rapists aren't funny, have no stereotypes and you've taken one of the most serious crimes in this world and turned it into a comedy.

"Do not play this hack if swear words, violence, and extreme sexual situations cause your upper lip to twitch and your panties to get bunched up." - How about do not play this hack if you are a mature person who doesn't find "heinous" acts somehow amusing.

I'll say it again you're a Dipshit!

Well, child rapists do have a stereotype: the mustache.

and you've taken one of the most serious crimes in this world and turned it into a comedy.

Whereas the games that turn the serious crime of _murder_ into a comedy are alright because their sales meet certain numbers?
The mostache thing comes from Maddox right? that and the creepy grin. LOL ok very true about GTA and murder but its playing on stereotypes as i said. I seriously have doubts about whether or not this hack is based on satire comedy. To me it simply sounded like a rather imature attempt at showing off the ability to swear and base a game around extreme violence.

Ive never based GTA's success on the sale numbers but rather the fact it was an incredibly accomplished sandbox title with a kickass soundtrack and awesome voice acting. I've also never forgotten just how gratuitous it can be and have always kept that in mind.
