Sigh... I'm completely new to hacking, and so far the only thing I've managed to do right is to change the maps around on Pokemon Ruby. I used Advance Map to do this. I then downloaded Elitemap, but that seems really hard to use... It messes up sometimes, and then closes itself too.

Mainly I essentially need to kow how to:

# In Advance Map, I can edit the maps and rearrange buildings, create different paths etc.
I can also change the wild pokemon, and the name of the town etc. BUT... I need to
search and choose offsets (??? I have no idea what they are), and when I choose one at
random, or ask the program to search for me, It messes the game graphics up
Can anyone please explain to me what the hell an Offset is, what it does, and how it
affects the ROM??

# Script editing. GAH I use programs like A Text, and at one point it let me change the text of the game, and it worked perfectly!! But, only for the text events in Littleroot Town (the first town in the game). Also when I try to do that again, It just has nothing Empty text boxes where I previously edited text How does this work?

# Graphics editing. GAH AGAIN!! I have several programs and one called Pokepic, which brings up the pictures of the pokemon but doesnt have a built in sprite editor... I dont know how to edit the Pokemon's images.... Help anyone?


# Finally can someone just tell me the tools I need for:
- Edits Maps
- Edit Text
- Edit Pokemon Graphics
- Edit Trainers, Items and ETC Graphics
- Edit Events, Add Trainers, Items and the such like
- Edit basically everything else, so that I can make the game completely different story, pokemon, PLAYER, RIVAL, trainers, towns.... EVERYTHING.


Ok I'm not expecting anyone to come along and answer, but if you could maybe please answer at least one question if you know, I'd be forever grateful

I see, completely understandable, it's just really ghey when I, who has only just started to Hack ROMs, and Pokemon being the most interesting for me, I get labelled as a n00b. It sucks because I have several sstory ideas.

@whoeveritwas, people do like Fakemon, obviously it's cool when they arent aroundm but hey if the storyline involves a different region, then it should involve new (fake) pokemon.
I just hate crappily drawn sprites. I cant sprite to save my life so I am gonna get my friend to do it. So yeah I think Fakemon are okay, as long as they are in Pokemon's style still.
Some of the shite i've seen... jesus tapdancing christ.

@whateverelse, I'm not a pokemon fanboy, I enjoy the games, hell the art's even fairly good, but It's just another RPG to me, with 6 characters on your party, and 386 possible party members.

RAR YOU WILL ALL BE DOOMED TO ETERNAL DAMNATION. or something. FOR DOUBTING NOVICE HACKERS. that are actually gonna do well. RAAR

I'm bored.

It wasnt hard to get in here at all :/

Anyway, since I'm here best stay on topic.

Right hacking a ROM of Ruby.

Story : Set in the region of Essex (My home county), you have to do teh general Pokemon stuff, train, defeat Gym Leaders, etc.
But, the main story is that Chavs are taking over Essex (google chav if you're not British).
Mainly a game made for my friends, complaining they are bored until Diamond / Pearl come out, I decided to edit it to suit our area.

But I also thought, might as well see if people think it is cool, and maybe if I should release a BETA in a few months... Either way, It's being made, so ya.

Yes Fakemon will be included, but come on it's not THAT bad...

I can get screens, once I've finished editing Littleroot to Petalburg.

Also you can't be good or bad a hex. You can only be good or bad at using a hex editor.

It does not matter if you had 123 good or bad hacks, only the hack you are showing now counts.

Now don't give the the emo "I suck" if you suck get better! Look at older hacks, read some information around. Accually try.

I would love to see better hacks in this area of hacking. However unless you get it through your head now that no one will help you if you dont help yourself or play crappy hacks you will not get far.

Even after I say all this continue working on a hack, don't make it one you will give to the public, mess around.. alot.
You might find something cool =)

Take my advice and use it how you will.

Yeah I know and @Darkdata, I read the rules and I wasnt showign off my HAck, I was asking whether or not it is a good idea... *sigh*
But yeah I'm gonna update it with Screenies when I get the chance, I'm not on very often to Hack, let alone post Screens. So please, I ask you to be patient, and allow SOME leeway.
