I honestly have no idea when it was the first time I learned how to use Hexadecimal. I remember I saw some genius boy programming his TI-86 calculator using straight hex when I was in high school.... but I never understood what he was doing until I started reverse engineering programs and ROMs. (edited by D1337 on 12-14-06 07:43 PM) |

The FAQ at demonbuster.com is FTW.
Q: "Can demons mess with you while you sleep?" A: "YES! Demons can, AND humans that know how to do it, can get into your dreams, or even have sex with you. See our INCUBUS article. Make sure you do Spiritual Warfare before you go to sleep." |

What exactly are you trying to program that would require "new abilities"? It sounds like you just have a hard time completing projects in general, of any sort, to be honest. If you have an ambitious project it takes a lot of motivation to stick with it. I'd say the crossplatform characteristics and speed of C/C++ make it the best bet if you think your end user is willing to compile the program themselves on different platforms (or maybe someone else will do it and distribute it.)
I would think that a basic understand of C++ would be enough to do most tasks. Now, doing them efficiently is another issue entirely but the flexibility is there. I'd say no to Java b/c of speed... probably in bench mark tests it does all right and everybody says it has improved its speed substantially with subsequent versions. But that doesn't change the fact that everyone still reports to me that it's slow. I used to use it and it was pretty slow even on a fast computer. Also, many things that are easy to do in C/C++ are pretty much a pain in the ass in Java; that's not to say it doesn't swing both ways though. Python is a pretty nice language and manages to stay pretty fast too, from what I've experienced. Yeah there's an interpreter but it doesn't seem that much of a slowdown. BASIC.... okay we all know who will chime in about FreeBasic so I'll leave that to him. It seems like a decent language so I'll give him that. Pascal doesn't seem (to me at least) to see a lot of mainstream attention anymore in the programming community. I think it would almost fall in the realm of antiquated languages unless you use Delphi. That uses Object Pascal. I dunno, maybe we have some Pascal fanboys lurking around here, but I don't really see any advantages of learning this language at this time. In any case, my final suggestion is to stick with either C++ or switch to Python. Both are pretty flexible and popular. Though I think if you were to ask us this question it would be better to give examples of programs and code you are trying to implement first. |

Common sense is on your side... to a degree. But skepticism about genocide should not be equated with anti-semitism or any other anti-[insert race here]-ism. But I suppose that the White Supremecists and Aryan Nationers must have gotten to me and SS, right? There is likely massive quantities of evidence in favor of there having been a Jewish holocaust during WWII but how many of us in the North American continent are going to have access to such things. Asking the question "How do we know this happened for sure?" is not a crime, and yet your have this ludicrous notion that it is. But like I said, common sense is on your side, so the people who would deny the Holocaust outright and in a public fashion are going to have an agenda for doing so. Holocaust denial in and of itself is not hate speech unless there are obvious factors. For example, if they are involved with Neo-Nazi movements, the proponents of said view are guilty of hate speech. Does that seem agreeable to you? (edited by MathOnNapkins on 12-22-06 03:47 AM) |

So do you use peeled potatoes? Unpeeled? Do you have to wash them? It sounds like a cool thing to have but I thought they were illegal.
Also, reading the thread title I could help but think of this |

Well... theoretically HiRom would allow for much more data if you could fill all the banks (minus the WRAM and SRAM banks probably) While this thread addresses existing memory maps fairly well, Rom Manic brings up an interesting point... is it possible to reprogram the system to make a different memory map? Obviously banks would still be 64K from the processor's perspective, but being able to have a memory map that allows for almost a full 16 MB (126.5 megabits exactly) of data sounds nice.

You know... before the whole Iraq war business I was a little bit worried that our entanglement there would embolden North Korea. It seemed like an obvious consequence at the time, so who is surprised that North Korea is getting mouthy and everyone else is getting scared in that region?
I have to agree with Koryo on this one, in that if we don't make significant strides to cool down North Korea the political climate in Asia might chance drastically while we're messing around in the Middle East and Afghanistan. (edited by MathOnNapkins on 12-26-06 02:40 AM) |

Alastor: Let me see if this is what you are trying to say:
-You'd rather be contacted to do something trivial which in most cases is to fix a typo or slight error than let a user do it themselves. -You have many reasons not to let a normal do this (what are they?) Not that I think this is a huge deal but I fail to see why you think this is such an open-shut case. The only real drawback I see to it is that you'd have to get a programmer to implement it... and well... that happens sporadically. |

I think if we're going to take an approach like this to fighting virii, we'd better damn know what we're talking about with no room for error. What if the plan backfires and you end up with a ridiculously effective virus strain that kills people left and right? Or what if you end up damaging the patient's DNA?
I'm of the opinion that to strengthen our bodies against infection the best route is to strengthen the immune system (not put up a firewall or whatever you've called it.) i.e. if you can train your immune system to fight off an enemy it has never even faced that would be optimal. I do believe vaccines put this principle into practice by subjecting the body to a weakened form of a virus, so when it faces the real thing it will know how to deal with it. Now what if we could eliminate the need to have the viral exposure... what if there was a way to tell the body a direct way to fight it off via some kind of encoding of data into the body's cells? This thread is pretty hypothetical, so I don't really know where it can go. |

Moonshell is nice, but it definitely is not my ideal solution for portable music. I would also need a fairly large SD card or flashcart (good luck finding a huge flashcart) to have any appreciable amount of music storage, and that would also have to be shared with GBA and/or DS games which take up lots of space as is. I happen to have a Passkey / G6 setup so here's where SD cards would have been nice. It's only a 256MB (2Gb) card. Now... what is nice about it is the total lack o' DRM. I will give it that. How about for starters now having a giant fucking image sig? It's obnoxious. An image sig shouldn't be larger than, say, 100 pixels tall. [edit] Oh I almost forgot, there is no clear separation between your post and the text portion of your sig, in clear violation of announcements made by the administration recently. Simply putting -------------------- as a separator would suffice. That is step 1. Then step 2 is looking through the FAQ with a fine toothed comb before even thinking about trying to get approved. Step 3 is reading the stickies in this forum, and looking at other threads of people who got approved and perhaps trying to put some thought into your application. I believe the burden is on you to show how making said torture public would be any more of a deterrent. Pretty much anyone who is going to commit a crime knows what the consequences are going to be.

Well yeah... I'm not guaranteeing anything but if you really want to get approved you have to earn the respect of those in charge. |
