No idea really... but the only thing I'm out to collect are SNES games with special chips so I can do real hardware research and testing with them. And... I think I've got just about all the chips now.
Super FX1, Super FX2 (Starfox/Stunt Race FX/Vortex, Dirt Trax/Doom/Yoshi's Island) CX4 (megaman X2 and X3) S-DD1 (Street Fighter Alpha II) SA-1 (SMRPG and Kirby Super Star) DSP* (Super Mario Kart) (this is DSP1, there are several other versions) These are the most prevalent chips for American and European releases. There are plenty more chips I probably don't care about that much used in Japan. |

I got an e-mail from him about a month ago. He's moved on to things other than LM and SMW .

I just went ahead and bought them. Passkey 3 seems to be an extremely new device. The stores I looked at added it only a week ago. Hopefully I'll turn out to be a guinea pig that doesn't lose $34. At this time it seems like the cleanest 2 slot option. Though Bouche, what exactly does Flashing (Flashme) allow you to do? Does it allow you to run code off of a cart directly from the DS slot? B/c that would be cool, but I'd be worried I'd ruin my DS. only have one at the moment. Will be buying a Lite as soon as I can afford it. I want one to test on and one to play on.

Well I read over it and it doesn't seem like an option I'd like to go with. But thanks for the info anyways. I'd like to keep the firmware intact until I get a new one. I might buy an old used DS though just to mess with it that way. I really don't like opening up hardware and messing with it, and the moment it mentioned shorting something out I lost interest.

I never thought this would be a six game series. But it could end tomorrow... neither team has won on the road yet in this series. Miami could lose in game seven if they play like they did in game 1 and 2.

My neighbor wants to nuke the whole country ASAP. And he said that like last summer. I'm sure he's grinding his teeth now.

I have to ban myself from DW games unless I have literally nothing to do for weeks on end. With matches lasting 30-60 minutes it adds up, especially since I just can't turn down the next one after I beat it (and occasionally lose.)
I've beaten DW4:Empires with different starting rulers. My first campaign made my very stressed out b/c I put a lot of hours into it and it was on hard mode (to prove a point to my roommate.) I ended up beating LuBu in the final battle with Zhen Ji. I almost died like 10 times... it was nerve wracking. But I managed to finish the final battle in one try. It's my favorite DW in terms of gameplay b/c of the RISK like approach to conquering China. The downfall is that you my unknowingly not trigger historic battles. E.g. the alliance against Dong Zhuo may or may not trigger, the Yellow Turban Rebellion I think triggers definitely, Chi Bi is hard to trigger if you alter the historical timeline even minutely. I didn't even know about Chi Bi until I began playing other DW games. DW5 I played next but only briefly b/c I didn't own it. Then I played and beat DW4 with 3 different characters. I still haven't beaten it with Diao Chan. Haven't really picked it up in months though. One of my complaints against DW games is the shitty buttrock. It does very little for me and totally conflicts with the ancient china motifs. Also, vs. modes aren't very fun b/c the battle system isn't very complex. Another thing that bothers me is that the opportunity for hidden items is not even hinted at anywhere in the game other than cryptic messages once in a while. i.e. I didn't know there were even special items to be had until I read an FAQ online that mentioned them. Unclear game goals is bad design (or maybe bad localization?) (edited by MathOnNapkins on 06-23-06 09:22 AM) |

Chrono games are not a square-enix priority it seems. Too content with Xenosaga/Kingdom Hearts. Chrono Trigger was also made by a very special assembly of talent that would be hard to put back together again. Hence Chrono Cross was very different, and another game in the series would probably vastly different again and divide the fanbase even further. I honestly feel Chrono games need to be continued on in the hack scene (here or wherever.)

First of all, I would not have guessed you to be a pervert. Second, you are what you are and you can't change that. Third, I don't see any benefit whatsoever to what you're thinking about doing.

I actually haven't played Xenosaga of Kingdom Hearts games. The point is that they are not focusing on Chrono games perhaps b/c it is easier to make money off games like that or the Final Fantasy franchise, etc. Or maybe nobody has come up with a really groundbreaking idea for a new Chrono game. You can't force a company to make a sequel to a game. It's possible that nobody who worked on previous titles wants to make new Chrono title.

Well I just got my G6 and Passkey3 yesterday on the same day. It works beautifully. Going to have look into doing some work in assembler... b/c all the tutorials are in C or C++ right now. Currently reverse engineering the demo1.nds rom (PD) I found on a tutorial site that was written in C. Hoping to recompile some SNES games to work on DS. Maybe the ones that are pretty much unemulatable via SNESDS. Handheld Starfox would be <3.

Heh... well obviously some parts are useless like things that relate to the PPU and the APU. But I think some degree of recompilation is possible and probably preferable for accuracy's sake. I really hate projects like Super Metroid Classic that try to recreate a game just by looking at it and playing it. I'm pretty positive that emulating the SNES AND another processor like the SuperFX would be too much for the DS. Hence you'd have to convert a lot of commands to a native format. The ARM has a lot of multi purpose registers and I suppose I could map the SNES registers to those fairly easily. Then just find a way to do the SuperFX commands natively (without using registers?)

But then, other popular games (like Super Metroid) got an editor too and they're not getting a lot of attention either.
Certainly not SMW like attention with Lunar Magic, but I can think of at least 4 finished hacks. (3 of which are Japanese but used Smile to do it.) I've also noticed a surge of Super Metroid activity. If you build it they will come, eventually. Lunar Magic was also released in 2001, wasn't it? It takes time. |

Still working through that... many things can only be done on the ARM7 side... like reading the buttons and the touch screen. And the 3D graphics engine might be on the ARM9 side... so I have to look into it a bit more.
edit: wtf... how could I forget that the ARM9 and the ARM7 have a whole different set of registers... gah. So yeah perhaps SuperFX could be done natively with command conversions. So that leaves... music as the largest potential gap. But the DS handles music much differently than the SNES... it doesn't have a seperate subprocessor from what I can tell.
