You know, the more pussy he eats, the less there is for us straight males!

Erm... wait... Tommathy, do you do housecalls? That could come in very handy for when I don't want to do that .

So what do I do? She's sad every time I end up leaving her online to go to sleep, she's sad whenever I come home late because I work at a job, and she's sad when I want to go to bed early 'cause I have a lab in the morning or a meeting or appointment. I don't wanna make her sad, but I want to have a life.

I don't want to talk badly about DV, but as I understand it she's had her problems in the past with online relationships, some of them very odd and not easily understood by most of us. It seems to me that she's chronically depressed. Look at how many times you wrote the word 'sad' in the quoted paragraph. That hit me immediately when I read it. Why is she staying up till 5am? Isn't a lack of sleep a sign of depression? I don't mean to suggest that she is the problem much, but it's worth considering. If she's not getting enough sleep, maybe she should. I sleep my deprive myself fairly often and when I do it's anything but fun.

Posted on 04-02-06 10:35 PM, in Yoshi related ASM sub-routines Link
I was going to post this a few days ago, but I was bored so I wanted to see if there actually was a quick way to change yoshi's color and behavior - mid level.

I used Geiger's Snes9x Debugger and set a write breakpoint on $7E13C7. Turns out this value was getting updated every frame from a location in the array at $7E15F6, X. I don't know that location very well, but it appears to be in the middle of a group of other sprite information. This says to me that Yoshi is just another sprite object on screen that Mario interacts with... am I wrong? Like, is he in the same class as the enemies or is he seperate from them.

Anyways, if you can locate the entry in $7E15F6, X that corresponds to Yoshi, you can change his color to one of the values listed (4, 6, 8, A) and his color and behavior will change within the next frame. I could not figure out how the game knows which entry is Yoshi's since Geiger's isn't as advanced as I wanted it to be. That would have required breakpoints on things like writes to the X register, and being able to filter out certain addresses when using breakpoints. My point is that Yoshi is allocated as soon as he gets on screen, just like any other sprite, and thus his entry could appear at $7E15FE, $7E15F8, or any other byte in that array. I suspect the array is only 10 byte long but again I'm not familiar enough with this game to know for sure.

If we are going to argue against abortion we might as well argue against condoms since they kill what would end up as fetus, if it were to reach an egg. The debate over when you have created a "person" rather than a "thing" seems to be fruitless to me, b/c it's all about how you feel. There's nothing objective about it, and even if there were objective points brought up, no one would agree on which points were valid. (e.g. Functioning limbs, certain levels of brain activity, development of breathing and circulations systems, etc.)

I personally feel that abortion is indeed a gruesome act. But I'm willing to put aside how uneasy it makes me feel to allow the woman who needs an abortion (rape victim, or in danger of death by childbirth) the right to do so. Casual abortion is a pretty dumb option imo. People need to be more responsible than that. Treating life like you can make it and destroy it so casually is pretty callous.

You hide behind words like "science" and "criteria" yet this is still an opinion. If fertilization were to be "aborted" some infinitesimal time beforehand, you're saying this is justified? I know that's a wild hypothetical, but in my point of view it is human life in general that matters, not just singular units called people. What you're saying is that the human all of a sudden matters only b/c it is distinct from its parents. Sperm, eggs, and any other cell in the body is still apart of us and I do think they deserve the same respect. It would indeed be a tragedy if our whole species became infertile.

But this illustrates exactly what I was trying to explain in that people are going to use whatever criterion makes sense to them to describe what a human life is. And it has so far unfolded predictably in that fashion. Is it something with a face? Is it something that if left alone will eventually have a face? Is it something sentient? (And why should any of these things particularly matter?)

@Silvershield: I'm not really even sure what you're getting at, given I seem to mostly have the same position as you. In case you're having reading comprehension issues, let me spell it out: I'm not in favor of just anyone getting an abortion. I believe people should be responsible enough to either abstain or use contraceptives. In the event you still get pregnant, then deal with it.

I also don't get what you said about putting the child of a rape victim up for adoption. Is that the only option in your eyes? According to this http://www.surrogacy.com/religion/catholic.html, the Catholic Church would rather a child be raised by his/her real parents than by a stranger. And that seems to be both childbirth and raising of the child, based on what I gathered from the article. Hence if you're going to stay true to Catholicism, adoption shouldn't even be a consideration.

Well I don't want to doubt the skill of your mother's doctors but perhaps you should get a second opinion if you haven't already done so? Diagnosis of a terminal illness is very hard for everybody involved (family, the patient, friends.)

Aside from that, I wish you the best of strength in coping with this. If i may ask, what is the cause of this disease? Viral / bacterial / something genetic?

Since there is only one body tag per html page, I cannot set the link, alink, or vlink options on my layout at all...This is very annoying to me since when I click my own links under most board themes they either disappear or become barely visible. Any ideas? I don't want to have to import a style sheet either.

So am I correct in saying that when you bump these blocks, the original map16 block is erased and you create a sprite instance? That seems to be the approach I'd take. Also what's with the .bin files, wouldn't it be easier to provide an asm patch? I'd convert if for you if you want.

So there isn't any way to embed in the html of the layout a style sheet or style tags that would provide such functionality?

I don't really need this per se, but I'm curious if anyone has any ideas on how to implement the function a mod b with no hardware divide or division. Assume a and b are signed 16-bit integers. (SNES or NES pretty much). And yes I know the SNES has hardware division of sorts, but it takes 8 cycles to complete. I can't think of any bitwise trickery that would work, so I'm looking for a fairly fast algorithm in assembly.

As I recall, devices like the M3 allow you to load up third party (not included with M3) emulators like Pocket NES and I've heard you can load gameboy emulators onto it too. Though it's probably not called Pocket Gameboy b/c that would be redundant...

If you are opening up the possibility to download code via the internet, does that not also open up the possibility of pirating games using such a method. Hundreds of DS roms already exist and I'm not sure how hard it would be to download those in that form, but still...

The point is not that the hack would be intended for piracy, but rather that it would immediately be used for piracy, if I understand correctly. It's like any other distribution system. You set up a server that can distribute code "i.e. a rom", to a client's DS. Am I just totally missing something here?

I could argue that my SNES copier is useful for homebrew, but a much larger percentage of people (at least back in the day) used it for piracy.
