What makes you think people will read this, if they don't even read the readme file that comes with the hack? It's even more pointless as the majority of your post is copied straight from readme file.
This thread smacks of total pointlessness. |

You would have to be pretty stupid to try and make money off ROM hackers (i.e. the majority of them don't have any, or don't have access to an online payment). And if someone did actually try and charge for an editor/tool/etc, you could be pretty sure that a freeware project would spring up to replicate the functionality, if the editor was truly useful. |

And this thread is about? If it's a proposed replacement for the old temporal flux thread, it's bloody terrible. Next to no information (you don't even list who made Temporal Flux), it's riddled with spelling mistakes, and you don't even have any decent links.

Originally posted by xcomgs One of the main reasons I prefer Data Crystal to WikiRAM is that the guys who run it aren't doing it to inflate their ego. They are actually trying to help the ROM hacking community, and create a worthwhile resource. You are just trying to get "respect" without putting much effort in. WikiRAM has very little organization, a trained monkey could see that. I would also say that WikiRAM doesn't have much data on it either. They both aren't very good in that respect. However, I'd rather add data to Data Crystal than to WikiRAM. Namely, because Data Crystal has a set of formatting rules that pages should adhere to. WikiRAM it's just stick it in the wiki, screw formatting. Finding useful information in pages of people's messed up notes is a complete pain in the ass. I can't see the importing of .nl files in WikiRAM, in fact the only mention is that it is on the to-do list. So that point doesn't really count. Working on Data Crystal is the only ROM hacking related work I do now. |

For hacking information, (like ROM/RAM addresses, and descriptions of formats) I think no credit should be given. I personally don't add anything I haven't found out myself to Data Crystal. If you really want credit, register a username, and add the data yourself. The history tab will note your contribute and that to me is adequate enough credit - if you feel the need to be credited that is, personally, I don't care much about credit. If someone gets use out of my information, that's all the satisfaction I need.
Plus, it brings up another issue. What if, someone adds information, and another person comes along and corrects it? Sure, you could write (originally added by xyz, edited by abc), but what if it gets corrected by numerous different people? That would lead to a god ugly page. I'm not sure why utilities/hacks were mentioned, as the individual pages for each utility/hack states the author. I believe Data Crystal has the right policy on this matter. |

What is it you want credit for anyways?

I don't even see what the problem originally was. All Data Crystal had was the hack name. No screenshots, no information, no download links. How could anyone possibly take any ill-meaning/offense from that?

You should concentrate on sorting out WikiRAM's problems than acting like publicity whore (and annoying everyone in the process) on a messageboard. |

Use Mega Man (U) ROM instead. That's the version I wrote the program with, so compatibility is probably the best with that version.

Temporary fix, go to Folder Options in Windows Explorer, and un-tick the Hide Extensions for Known File Associations.
I left a property set to False (really, the component's default should be true), and it doesn't force the file extensions. It'll be corrected if I ever get around to releasing v1.2 (which has been sitting on my hard disc for over a month, I think). Or, you could hack the EXE using a resource hacker probably. |
