Yeah. Xk has the brackets somewhere, but I'm gonna see if I remember the current matchups...

Winners:

Hiryuu vs. Zidane

Loser's:

Tamarin vs. Ailure

Xk vs. (Waiting on above)

(Can a mod sticky this? I'm powerless at the moment, and I might be gone this weekend.)

Alright, I know I'm not a mod here, but I think that whoever is or will be would want a bit more detail than just a list.

Chris, I'm gonna be nice and warn you that Black Lord will, without a doubt, kill you for that the moment he sees your post. Although I'm gonna ask if you refer to the original or the PSX remake...

I haven't played too many RPGs, though, and none of them have been bad. So, here's my list of least-favorites, and some reasons for them. Note that I do play them sometimes anyway...

1. Legend of Dragoon. Not a bad game by any stretch, but there's something about it that I just don't like. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but I'm guessing it's about the battles. Additions are a nice idea, but they can get pretty frustrating. Dragoon Magic has its drawbacks as well; some attacks have animations that are too long (and unlike FF8's GFs, you can't boost their power more with a longer animation), and under the magic system in LoD, you can't use magic without transforming into a Dragoon or using certain items. Even worse, Dragoons can't heal unless they have a healing spell (which is only one of them, I think), which gets very frustrating. Graphically, it's not the greatest, but it's a PS1 game, what do you expect?

Despite that, I still wouldn't call it a BAD game. Just not the best.

2. FFVIII. Other people have said it before... but it's true: I fell asleep while playing this game. That alone would earn it a spot on the list, but then you add the flawed Junction system (which makes it absurdly easy to get godlike characters), the Drawing (which just gets boring), and the fact that the plot just dies after Disc 1... yeah, not my favorite game around. Triple Triad helps save it, however, as does the fact that until, oh, I'd guess the trip to space, the game's not too bad, if a bit easy.

3. FFII: Tedium concentrated. Trying to boost stats is a painful chore, as is levelling up weapon proficiencies and magic levles. It wouldn't be so bad if, as in Morrowind, it wasn't completely needed, but in FFII you do pathetic damage and take a shitload if you DON'T spend all that time boosting your stats. It was a good idea, but a bad execution. Maybe if stats came a bit faster (as in Dawn of Souls), but in its original incarnation and FFOrigins, too slow.

4. FFIV. Linearity anyone? I'd have liked a bit more freedom than what this game made available. By which I mean any freedom; two side-dungeons with optional bosses just don't cut it.

Hmm... yeah, I don't have much experience with bad RPGs. Guess I'm lucky that way. Think I might have overdone the 'more detail' bit, though.

While we're on the subject, Despair is misspelled in The Pit of Dispair..

Dunno if that was intentional, though; I'm guessing it's a pretty easy word to misspell.

As a warning for people that use dialup. I'm amazed that they're still around myself, but y'know, some people refuse to ditch their 56k no matter how good their other options are...

The screenshots look pretty good. Normally I'd agree that the YI pipes don't look good in SMW, but since most of the tiles are also from YI, it's not too bad. The enemies and Mario don't seem to fit in, but I think you'd need to do custom sprites for Mario and most of the enemies anyway to get them to fit... The overworld water seems a bit odd in that the only water you could enter in SMW was the solid blue variety, and the dot paths stood out better, but that's not terribly important. Other than that minor thing, the overworld's good, from what little you've shown us.

Hmm... I can't really order them, and I'm omitting SRPGs (so no FFT running away with the win from me)...

Just some random favorites in no order whatsoever:

Lunar: Silver Star Story and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (PSX; these two are remakes, IIRC, but I never played the originals): Before we begin, I just wanted to point out that I love the music in both of these games. Might be my favorite part. The battle system and characters aren't particularly new, but even if a lot of the stuff has been done before, it was done extremely well in these two games. And who doesn't like having a healer that can smash heads almost as well as your swordsmen?

Earthbound (SNES): Though it has rather simplistic graphics and a somewhat basic battle system, this has to be one of the most fun RPGs I've ever played - and I can't even figure out why. What's most bizzarre (and given the content of this game, that's saying something) is that, as much as I harp on FFIV's linearity, Earthbound's complete lack of sidequests doesn't bother me... For a game that seems to do so many things wrong - rather simple music, not-so-great graphics, battle backgrounds that make you think you're on drugs, bland cliched story - it's still strangely fun. Give it a try sometime. One thing I will say is that it has an almost perfect levelling curve; if you play through, getting all the items that are easily available in dungeons and not running from very many fights, you'll almost never have to spend time levelling up.

Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES): Good graphics, good party customization, action RPG (instant points), multiplayer, and rather challenging at times, there's really not much to complain about here. Using magic and items does require menus, which stops the action a bit, but unless you're using a magic-heavy party it's not a big deal. Just play it already, damn it!

Tales of Symphonia (GC): Oh come on, I'm sure you've heard all about this one by now and have already decided whether or not you're gonna get it. It's challenging enough, has a (so far; haven't beaten it yet) interesting story, and fun battles.

FFIII, FFV (NES, SNES): They have a lot in common. The characters are bland (FFIII has an excuse, though). The story's not much to talk about. And they both have variations of the job system. FFIII has a hell of a lot more challenge than FFV (DAMN YOU, MAGIC CIRCLE CAVE! DIEDIEDIEDIE!), but FFV gives you more of a feeling of being rewarded for using the different jobs. I'd say that if the plot and character issues don't bother you much (and admittedly, for an RPG it's a bit more of a problem) you should've played these games already.

I have a few more, but I think my post is long enough as it is.

Did it not occur to you that my entire post was not replying to you? My comments about the YI pipes were in response to asdf.

Well, as long as you know that Icy levels are usually harder than their less-slippery relatives, I see no issues with having an ice world first.

There's your input on that subject. And other than the path issue that others already brought up, your overworld looks nice and the level shots don't have anything to complain about. However, about #3... it'd probably be too much work to change it now since the whole level was probably done, but that icy column thing... I think it'd look better if it was one block wider.

I'm not expecting to. But I do have a reward in mind if we do finish. See, BMF has already finished SMO, and secretly gave me a copy. If we get it finished before January 1st, I'll send it to you.

Of course you know, I'm lying about that. He's never gonna finish.

Hmm... I've been practicing in Tetris Attack lately. Winning in under 20 seconds against the Very Hard computer in Vs. mode is fun. And I can somewhat reliably get a x5-x7 right off the bat.

But Endless takes me as long as it always has. =/

I play every once in a rare while, using Deep. I started using him because I like swords *stabbed by a Black Mage*, and I continued using him because I was too lazy to learn how to use anyone else.

But nothing changes the fact that I can't beat Julian on Easy. Hell, that's if I can even get to him; I'm not very good at this game since I lose track of my character too easily.

I had no idea so many liked it (or new about it, for that matter)... What about Lunar 2? Anyone ever played that? I haven't... I wonder what it's like.

A harder Lunar would be the best summary I can come up with. Additionally, the story's told quite well, the characters seem to have more personality, and there's a bit more voice acting (even outside of cutscenes). But the part I noticed most was the challenge; even normal enemies in the early game were killing me, and the final boss is a bitch.

Eh, I play once in a while if someone I like is online and up for a game. I play choose your own mobile (random's allowed, but I prefer not taking a chance of getting Nak on Cozytower B or Lightning on Nirvana B) and random level. Silver Axe, and I can use quite a few mobiles with at least some skill, my favorites being Nak, Grub, Sate, and Aduka. Name's Cheveyo, but you'll almost never see me in-game.

Sonofbreid
Jake the Swordsman (my first ban! Only a 3-day, though)
(The above two have been permanently retired; I still use all after this at some time in some place)
Cheveyo Chowilawu
Cheveyo
Tamarin Calanis

Other names I sometimes use:

Mystic Swordsman Jake, Dark Knight Lakitu, High Mage Tianna - Used over at Moonlit Arena when I start getting a bit irritated at random moronic newbies. Generally, the day after I get to Tianna, someone gets banned. The names are taken from various short-tempered and increasingly-violent RP characters of mine.

Thalis Finarth, Calin Silvereye, Thelyn, Tanis Rotheran, TCalanis (GameFAQs), Shadowflare - No pattern to these, unlike with the previous three..

So... do I have the most names?

Edit: Oh, I forgot my winter name over at EDS - Silver Dragon.
Edit2: And a Star Wars name change here (Grey Jedi Cheveyo) and at Xeogaming (Jedi Watchman Tamarin).

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.64

Just about where I always have been every time the test has come up, give or take 0.5. I have no ideas for an 'ideal government' or anything of the sort, though, so I guess this'll be cut shorter than I'd like.

The only one that makes sense, of course - Basketball. For a character whose main special ability is jumping really high, it's taken a surprisingly long time to stick him in such an obvious sport.

Andrew says it's coming. We'll see.
