Hello all. Yes, of course, I am a n00b, if thats what you want to call me. I am interested with learning about the editor. Is there enough information throughout this thread to tell me how to use it when it is released in the beta version? Or mabe an FAQ. I was also wondering where to get a good SM64 rom, because I cant find one that works with the emulator, project64. Thanks for your help.

Meh, I agree.

This is the reason I'm glad BGNG hasn't released his F-Zero X editor to a wider audience - it would cause a whole load of trouble on this board. But, the bigger problem is that SM64 is a much more popular game, just like SMW is. So there's going to be a hell of a lot of newbies coming onto sites like this, with no previous rom hacking knowledge thinking they can do anything with the editor, when you just...cant. And even when you can, it's going to take seriously long, hard work and dedication.

Yes, I supose I am one of those newbies, though I dont neccicarily think I can just "use" the editor. I read some of what VL has said and it seems quite complicated to me, escecially since I have almost no rom hacking experience whatsoever, and dont even know how to use lunar magic well! I decided I would commit some of my time to this and learn. It will be my only project for a long time, I'm sure of it.

Dont worry, I already found one, after slaving over a hot computer all day! XD

So in the editor, you cant edit polygons, and suchwich, but you can edit textures and add/delete objects? Also all text ingame? This also means you cant edit the map itself, such as changing the ground level and making walls?

Even if it is so, it would still be a great editor.

Ok, so I cant edit ground or walls. Technically, I could create walls with unmovable brick object if there is one, such as a metal box, right? (unless they are pushable) Of course, this would be pretty strange and quite messy looking. =p

Is there a restriction limit to the amount of objects in a level, because of getting laggy?

Oh sorry I mispoke about the "add remove objects". I just meant getting an object on the map deleted for remove, and for adding taking an object allready in the game and adding it to a level. (Unlike Bowser and bosses that would mess up the levels)

Oh I see thanks for the info. It would still be good, since you could change an object into a different one, you could still edit a level pretty good.

There must be at least one unmovable object. Find all the useless objects in the games and turn them into walls, thats what I'll do for a lvl mabe, so I can create a maze. (walls as in inmovable object walls.)

So Racoon Sam, your saying that we can edit, for example, the face of the goomba to look different(like make it smile or frown on the flat surface of it's face), but cant change the shape of it(because that would be editing the polygon), right?

I hope I'm not being too lazy, but can someone post a link to rice's pluggin, and the tile molester and text wrangler? It takes me too long to find them throughout all the pages, there are too many, lol.

Or can some1 just say what pages they are on? Thanks.

O, is that a link to them? If so, thanks Sam.

I just thought of something. When he comes out with his editor, will there be a guide with it, or would that be too tedious? He problly wont want to create a guide explaining how to use the whole editor. Mabe he will, though. Did he already say he was or not? He might just want us to check info throughout this thread, but that would be too confusing for me

I'm no computer genious, you know.

Any more information to when VL releases the editor? He is finished with it, but isn't he taking a vacation or break or something?

Ever since I was little I loved chocolate, so I decided to make Bomb omb Battle field a choco mountain! Dont expect anything great, this is the first time I ever messed with the tile molester...

The field is a little sloppy, and doesn't have much color variety. The reason for that is that I tried to use lots of types of brown, but it ended up looking sloppy. I stuck to about 3 types.

The chocolate chips (I know they are only one color, but thats what a chocolate chip is): http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g42/ajstal8/snap0003.jpg

A look at the choco mountain: http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g42/ajstal8/snap0001.jpg

Any suggestions and feedback would be nice. =)

I have no idea if you would consider this looking bad or good cause I havent dealt with much hacking at all in general. I'm a newbie anyway.

Just a hint... but overall, it looks pretty good.

Yeah, well I dont think I'm putting white chocolate in. I suppose I could put a more blackish chocolate, like the dark chocolate, somewhere in the mountain. The reason I keep it dark is I want it to look more like the walls of choco mountain in MKDS. A quick question... should I give the chocolate a type of pattern? Or should it be how it is?

Also, aren't some of these textures going to appeare on later levels? i mean, they used differant sphere sprites for like every type of thing that used them, but the grasses they probably re-used over and over? i Could be wrong, and it's probably trivial anyway... (^-^)

Yeah, that was the one thing I was afraid of. I dont realy mind, because most of those wont appear, but the ones that do appear in another level are in levels I dont realy like or want to edit anyway. My favorite level is Bomb-omb battle field, so I'm concentrating on that. I am thinking about changing the ground color from what I made it, mabe to a lighter brown like you suggested. With those chocolate chips it will look like a giant cookie...lol.

I dont know why it is hard to see the pics. I admit they are dark, but I can make out their details fine. Any suggestions would be helpfull. =)
I cant think up of everything on my own...I'm only a noob hacker!

There is something I realy dont get... I found Mario's eye textures, and I tried to edit them red. For some reason though, the eyes dissapeared alltogether! I realy dont get this. I also did the same for his shirt buttons. I why would turning Mario's eyes red make the texture dissapear?

Mario: http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g42/ajstal8/snap0009.jpg

Like to remind you this is using tile molester.

I know this sounds kind of noobish...but how do you put a link to an IPS patch online?

Some pics of my edited SM64 textures.

The bomb-omb battlefield:

I tried to give it a more chocolaty look, and named it choco mountain.

Thwomps fortress (still needs lots of work, just started):

I'm trying to give the fortress a more "dark" look, like it should be. Dont mind the messed up ground, I'm going to fix that.
Any comments or suggestions would be good.

Yeah, I am planning on changing the ground into a lighter brown, to give it a bettter look. Having so much of only a few colors can kill a level.

Is there any solution to this problem? I'm actualy ok with eyeless mario, but what you said seems to be the problem with a few other things. When I edit certain textures and test what they look like, there are sometimes yellow and blue dots, even though when I check TM there are none there in those textures.
