Posted on 01-27-07 02:42 PM, in Lineart Inking - Advice Please Link
I'm not actually looking for your advice concerning my own sketches today, I'm actually looking for advice about how to re-create a certain look...

I've been trying to produce a look in my drawings akin to Ryu's Form Site for about a year now. On thing I like about his style is that he clearly finishes his drawings digitally, but retains a texture that makes them look like they've been hand inked and coloured using physical materials.

I'm confident he inks his lineart on paper, and scans in the drawing to colour it digitally. His lineart is quite bold and definate, but does not seem to be ink, as the lines appear to vary in texture and darkness when looked at zoomed in.

Here's a few things I've tried:

Brush Pen:
Produces a thick line that varies too much in thickness. Darkness does not vary much. I've found that using A4 size paper makes it difficult to produce a clean line when blown up to colour the drawing.

Fineline Pen:
Produces a line that is fairly consistent but does not vary in darkness. The texture is bold, but fairly plain.

Pencil:
Produces a fine line that is approaching the thickness I need when using A4 paper and blown up. Varies in texture but is not very bold. Relatively light line makes it difficult to fade out accidental markings on paper using Photoshop.

Can anyone suggest other materials I can try? I'm willing to try different kinds of pens, pencils and paper. One thing that I'm interested in trying next is charcoal. It would produce a similar texture to pencils but will produce a darker, bolder line. I've been eyeing up a small set of charcoal pencils, what do you think?

Yep, Rage are the only band that retains their appeal so long after that time has passed, this is good news. A Rage Against the Machine concert is worth ten Limp Bizkit or KoRn concerts.

e.coli, while it is deadly, is hardly a matter for national security. I remember a few outbreaks in the UK news. They are usually traceable back to a single source, where food hygene practices have been neglected. e.coli is very common in your excrement (ie, it lives in your colon = e.COLI), so it's probably a simple case of really awful food practices. You government probably has a bunch of laws that must be obeyed when it comes to food preparation, so how can it be their fault?

Well, Mr and Mrs Acmlm loved each other very much, so much that they gave each other a "special hug".

And that is where baby Acmlmboards come from.

A biology teacher would've given you a big 0 for that answer, though.

I think what he meant was that e-coli most commonly kills children and pensioners because their immune systems are typically weaker than adults. Same with Flu.

You could try one of the spiffy programs people have written that allow your PC to read the Bluetooth signal coming from the Wii remote. Most allow you to see the reading from each axis of the accelerometer. Try that and see if you get anything.

Of course, you'll need some Bluetooth hardware to use this program. If you know anyone with a Mac, there's a few programs written for OS X and most modern Macs come with Bluetooth hardware.

Yes, it's been a long time in the planning- we've tried to keep it a secret... BUT I can now announce to you that AcmlmExpo is infact - REAL

There's still a lot to be finalised but I can announce today that we have secured a convention centre to hold all of us in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Book your plane tickets now!

You're welcome, Ziff

I had a gaming oriented module at uni, it rocked. It was part of a module about scripting languages. We used Python and PyGame to make simple 2d games, and it was highly enjoyable

Good luck Elmo, please remember to keep in touch, I'm still counting on that meal we've promised each-other

I know exactly how getting your own place feels- I really want to buy an HDTV for our Wii and possibly a 360 soon, and a stylish pair of desks to match our iMacs...
But getting a mouse comes first. My current mouse's left button doesn't work, so, ironically, I'm once again left with a mouse connected to a mac that can only left-click or only right-click.

There's not much in the UK or northern Europe that compares to insects that live in the more tropical places in the world. Up here it's too cold and wet for 'em. The spiders I see are mostly pathetic and tiny. Even the tree spiders I see from time to time (a large variety where I live) are harmless. I have been attacked by a 1 inch hornet though, that freaked me out.

I feel like I've been so poorly prepared for the rest of the world. I swear when I travel the world I'm going to be a big wuss when I see anything with more than four legs

Nah, the PSP is, like, totally awesome.

In fact, all I want for Xmas is a PSP.

I don't see why people hate Sony so much.

Right, 'Kopf? Buddy? Pal?
