Me and Chad aren't buying each other presents this year, as I'm still at university and we don't have much money until I can get a job. We've just bought loads of food instead- turkey, chippolatas, stuffing, roast potatoes, biscuits, shortbread, chocolate- yummy

We bought the Wii at launch, but we haven't had much of a chance to play any multiplayer Wii Sports yet, so we're going to do that too.

My main on World of Warcraft is also half a level away from 60- my very first character to get to 60 since I started playing in March 2005. Two Scholo / Strath runs will see me there, so that's a great gift

We've also rented Monty Python's The Holy Grail as well, which we'll watch tonight- after Doctor Who, if I can Chad drunk enough to persuade her to watch it with me.

Anyways, hope everyone got what they wanted, Merry Christmas to you all

I've picked the short straw, and I'm the one out of all my friends that is rolling a Blood Elf Paladin. Not that I'm particularly disappointed- the BElf Pally girls look really awesome in their raiding gear, so I'm really looking forward to it.
Besides, when you've got the best there is in your garage - Undead Warlock - you can afford to take a chance or two on your alts

Incidentally, my Undead female Warlock - Nanase- is a tiny distance away from 60- I vowed to do it before Burning Crusade, and I've done it- my first level 60 character. It's taken me 20 months to do it, accross several characters that I've considered mains, but now I've achieved it

I got around to getting my new foil suit this afternoon, I can't believe it, but they've actually come into fasion after all these years. I have to go into work later on as well. Skynet notices if I'm late, and it's not kind when I am.

Don't worry about it, I don't want special treatment or anything I didn't remember when I changed my name there was somebody else named Davros, I just changed it because of the whole Dalek thing I've asked Danielle to change it back now

I've run into a glitch on Sonic 1 when you've got all the emeralds, have debug mode turned on and you're about to enter Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 by jumping through the floor. I find that I can't finish the zone and get caught in a loop where I fall down then fall from the ceiling back into area I just fell from.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my favorite to complete with all the emeralds, I just find it to be a more rounded experience with better-designed zones.

I'm going around my friend's house with two cases of alcohol, a Wii, and two burned CDs of Weird Al, Monty Python, David Hasselhoff, Avenue Q, Rocky Horror Show and various flash movies

The dress code? Pirates and Ninjas!

STILL waiting for Final Fantasy XII to launch in Europe. I'm gobsmacked with Square's lack of commitment to the European / British markets. It's very disappointing to hear that they are working on a DS sequel when they have not yet released the original in a market as large as Europe and the UK.

Posted on 01-13-07 09:42 AM, in .... damn, that Rumor Mill is getting good at this (Apple iPhone) Link
The device itself is one of the most beautiful pieces of technology I've ever seen, and they've really gone to town on features. I particularly loved Steve's demonstration where he used Google maps to search for a nearby Starbucks for a coffee, then using the Safari browser to make a call to a branch opposite the conference centre to order 5000 lattes! XD

I'm disappointed that it's only available with a two year contract though. I'm really fed up with progressive pieces of mobile technology being tied into their contracts and phone networks, I don't believe I should have to bleed to death for the more advanced technology when I have no interest in making video calls.

I'm also very disappointed that Apple haven't married the Apple TV with an announcement of iTunes TV programs and movies in the UK. Currently Apple are marketing the AppleTV purely on music videos and video podcasts- who's going to buy that? Personally, I encode all my DVDs to H264 anyway, so AppleTV should have no trouble getting through my video collection, but still I want to have easy access to TV and movie content. It's been long enough Apple, do something about it!

The biggest disappointment of the week: no Leopard. Nothing at all. We didn't expect the all-in-one nature of the iPhone, combining many rumours of products we expected, but we did expect something on Leopard. I really hope it's something special, given the fact that it's the only Apple product I can afford in the first half of this year.

Posted on 01-18-07 05:59 PM, in House passed minimum wage increase (to $7.25) Link
Competitive wages in Burger King? Burger King doesn't want the best, it wants the easiest. The cheapest. This is the same across retail everywhere these days. As long as you can demonstrate you can follow the rules and listen to orders, you can work in any common shop anywhere.

The minimum wage does not just benefit the people at the baseline, it benefits everyone from the previous amount right up to the new $7 odd. If you're in the case that you've had a few rises anyway, your employer will probably review your situation again, as they've demonstrated that they thought it was neccessary in the past.

The minimum wage is there to protect the poorest from exploitation, not to protect the middle or upper class.

1) Thesis. I'm writing a forum system in PHP, fully object oriented an probably going to have seperate logic and interface layers by the time it's done. I could abstract the database as well, but I don't think it's worth it at the present as MySQL is breeding eight million baby bunnies at any given time while Oracle is watching TV eating Doritos.
The project is roughly one year and three months old. I'm gradually refining the system model and pondering objects, inheritance and suchlike. Once I'm happy with the way things are working I'm going to finish the design (using Borland Together) and then revise my code to match.
I've also got to write a report consisting of roughly 12,000 words. The whole shebang is due in at the end of April.

2) Applications, Architectures and Frameworks assignment. Design and construct in either Visual Basic or C# a web-service or a web site for the employees of a sandwich shop to take orders. We need to consider orders, sandwiches, ingredients, stock levels, staff, staff rotas and pricing. A whole bunch of other things to do for bonus points.

3) Case Studies in Software Design assignment. Construct a simulation of a secure facility in Java. We need to design and implement a simulation that includes employees, cards, terminals, doors, card readers, security managers & interfaces, receptionist & interfaces and a bunch of other things too.

4) Professionalism assignment. Write a report of 1000 words (between five people XD) on the professional issues surround data disclosure. This is a joke of a module.

5) Network and Systems Security. Compile a report about the security benefits, features and issues surrounding Security Enhanced Linux. Around 30 pages long.

-- Non Uni --

1) Nanase - Level 60 Undead Warlock (Quel'Thelas EU)

2) Hayward - Level 17 Tauren Hunter (Quel'Thelas EU) (Showing up my guild's Blood Elves by rolling a proper race)

3) Sitting in bed, drinking tea, keeping my temperature up. Thinking of my blood as a boiling kettle full of drowning bugs. Heheh, you will regret the day you infected me >=D

4) Twilight Princess. Just finished the desert temple. .

5) Got some sketches on the go. Experimenting a lot with inking images using different materials... Fineline pens, brush pens and pencils too.
Holding off colouring them in Photoshop until I can find a really nice, clean, fine finish for the lineart.

6) Got a viewing for a house next week. I'm currently living in central Sheffield in a flat that's basically three small rooms. Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom. We have our Macs next to our bed, as we don't have desks.
We're viewing a house up by Meadowhall (big mall in the UK, 5 mins trainride from here). It's furnished, 5 minutes walk from train station and mall, has two bedrooms and sofa, and a cellar. The rent is £130 less a month from what we're paying now. If it's in a good area, we should have much more room to settle down in.

Then all we have to do is sort out cable internet, phone and cable TV and we're good to go!
