| I know how to embed a Quicktime movie in a page (by using embed or object), but what I want is that the movie doesn't load immediatly when visiting the page.
People should first click an image, then the movie replaces that image and starts to load, how would I do that? And is it possible in XHTML (Transitional)? (edited by Mercury on 12-17-05 10:41 AM) |

| Well I already work with absolute positioned divs.
And what I want is to put the movies on hidden divs, and when you click a link, the div shows, and you can watch the movie after you click it. So I can't really work with (i)frames. Dunno what happens if you don't do that, and when the movies already start to load on hidden layers, I'll have to test that. Or maybe someone knows a site where this is used? That way I can look at the source .
I'll try to look on some trailer site, maybe they use this. Edit: nevermind, I found it in the QuickTime Scripting guide. You have to use a "poster movie" .(edited by Mercury on 12-17-05 05:22 PM) (edited by Mercury on 12-17-05 05:34 PM) |

| On a sidenote, the iMac also got an Intel processor now (the same as the MacBook Pro, but better).
I hope they will announce the consumer laptop soon (instead of the iBook, just MacBook?). Btw, yeah, there are already beta OSX versions running on a PC, so I guess it won't take that long before 10.4.4 gets hacked and run on a PC, although they added new security I think. Also, rumors are that it will be possible to install Windows on an IntelMac (of course not supported by Apple, but they won't/can't stop it). I won't do it, but for the hardcore gamers it might be a good thing perhaps. |

| Let's say, hypothetically speaking, that I would want to make some kind of chat system, using AJAX.
Where I have for example 2 fields, one texbox and one textfield. The textfield is where you could type your sentences, and the textbox is where everything would be visible after submitting your stuff (through PHP to a MySQL DB). So by using AJAX the textbox will be refreshed after 1 second? 5 seconds? 10 seconds? Would that be possible? I know how technically, but I mean, would it be 'healthy' for the server? It'll probably also depend on how long I set the refresh interval. Another example, some kind of live online userlist, where usernames appear/disappear on the fly if they log on/off, again every second, 5 seconds or 10 seconds or whatever (the shorter the interval, the more accurate of course...). So actually my question is, would using AJAX for stuff like this be a good idea (perhaps by choosing a larger interval (every 30 seconds)? Or would it be almost impossible for the server, or go too slow when there are more people online at the same time etc.? If I would use only PHP/MySQL, people would have to refresh themselves (so the whole page each time) to see changes, and that would slow down as well I guess (and be even worse for the bandwith?) |

| I will soon have 1 hosting plan and +3 domain names.
Now I know it's possible to redirect every url to a certain subdomein. I assume like this (in the .htaccess file): RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain2.ext$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://subdomain.domain1.ext/$1 [R=307,L] Now my question, when you type the address http://www.domain2.ext, will it change to http://subdomain.domain1.ext in the address bar? Or will you still see http://www.domain2.ext. Or for example if you go to http://www.domain2.ext/folder/file.php, will the url change to http://subdomain.domain1.ext/folder/file.php or will it stay like you typed it first? |

| Indeed, what I wanted to know was if the url in the address bar in your browser will change to the 'ugly' url or will it stay as how you typed it.
Don't have my hosting now, so can't test it myself. |
