He didn't say that exactly, but it sounds like a far better idea.

Sorry, I meant to say LEFT, 1E4.

The block marked with a yellow X should act like 1E4.
The block marked with a red X should act like 1E2.

Posted on 07-20-06 04:23 PM, in Sprite Tool, public test release Link

So... I had a poison mushroom on Sprite 36 (the same sprite number all of the custom sprites use as a base), and have had since mikeyk made it for me over a year ago. He gave it to me in the form of an IPS patch. When I used the latest release of Sprite Tool to insert things like the Shyguy, it phucked up the poison mushroom; the tilemap was all wrong, and it gave Mario star power. So, I whipped out that poison.ips and reapplied it to my hack, and the poison mushroom was fixed. The Shyguy was fine too, but it messed up the tilemap of other custom sprites, like (pictured) the Boomerang Bro, it's boomberang, and the Hammer Bro. I've used Sprite Tool since to reinsert the sprites, but nothing changed.

Anybody got any idea what's goin' on?

I should've mentioned this, it was working.

That's exactly what I was doing wrong. And before you posted, I did a little research and found that it actually wasn't the poison mushroom patch that was causing the problem. I feel quite stupid now. _¬

Anyway, I got the whole thing sorted. But as you said, reinserting the sprites resets the poison mushroom. Expect a PM in a few moments.

Thanks.

Wahey! I hacked the tilemap to make room for two different upper 16x16 tiles and made a SMB1-style Hammer Bro.!

It's nothing special, I know, but still it looks awesome in-game!

This post d4s made about icegoom's hack really got me thinking...

In my hack, SMWRMK, I have three different types of Koopa Troopas (SMW, SMB3, and SMB1), two different Fire Flowers, two different (squishable) Goombas; the list is endless. Most people complained, when I showed screenshots back in May, that many of the GFX didn't fit well with eachother, and the palettes clashed.

Is it better to have multiple types of an object's/sprite's graphics in one game, or should hacks have a "consistent graphics style"? I have many more ideas for my hack, and I will probably make a SMWRMK2, so should I, for example, use the SMB3 Koopa Troopas in one hack and SMW Koopa Troopas in another hack?

Okay.

1. You can hear Mario jumping at the title screen.
2. Bad fingertips, and horrible black outline in level c5.
3. The tile on which mario starts on the OW leads to level 0
4. Bad outline colours on the overworld
5. BwahHaHa should be Bwahhaha
6. There isn't enough room after the goal in Toad's House
7. The Mario in the status bar is too dark
8. The grass in the first level is very plain
9. Black paths during the event after level 1
10. Why is there a snow level in world 1?
11. In the snow level, the brick and used block have bad palettes.
12. Use BMF's fadefix to stop the background colours from appearing after passing the goal.
13. The turn block bounce sprite is white
14. Tropical Island 1 is a gold icon...
15. Some black piranha plants in Tropical Island 1 are too hard to avoid
16. Terrible wine-coloured outline in TI1.
17. How are we supposed to know that those bricks are sensetive bricks??? "Dying because of something you could never have known about is not fun." I can't remember who said that, but it's very true.
18. The half-way mark is still there after restarting half-way.
19. The waterfalls don't pull Mario down.

I'll pick up at Tropical Island 2 later.

Erm, in SMB, Mario had red overalls, and Luigi had white. Nobody ever had green overalls, except for Luigi in SMASSMB1.

But ya know what? I'm not even going to bother with you any more. You're obviously just a small person and not worth arguing with. So you can go ahead bitching about whatever the fuck you want now; I don't care. I've lost all respect for you.
