Ok.. Now that I have you're attention I have a couple of probably old q's but also one or two new ones::

I am actually trying to make a new version of pokemon altogether. I've been building it using Pokemon Saphire as a base and as well as re-drawing the sprites I'm completely re-hashing the story.

Part of this, is that when you select your gender (female for the example) then brendan will not be you're next door neghbour but you're brother. This I'll use to my advantage later in the story but it means I have to somehow move the little [player:girl] and [player:boy] items and for some reason elitemap won't let me move them or modify them?

Also, how do I find blank spots in the rom? I'm going to have to completely re-write the inside of the house and play with the scripts a lot. If possible I'd like to stretch the rom out somehow so I can add stuff in and re-compress it later. Is there any way to do that!

Oh.. Other cool features. Instead of being given you're first pokemon you get given 1 master ball at the start and have to catch you're first pokemon. You father will later give you a pokemon of you're choice further down the track (substantially more powerful then the norm)

And yes.. There is probably going to include a nude patch. But I'll package that seperately so I won't do that until I've worked out the story elements!

Principal is that Hoenne is actually a giant nudist colony, Team magma will be replaced with team rocket (yay their back) who are battling against team rider. Both are trying to force the people of hoenne to buy new products targeted specifically for the nudist colony. And you're sibling will work for one of them!

I'm also basing this on a patch I found that allows all pokemon to be caught(or evolved into) in this game so it can stand alone from the other games!

Hey darkdata. I know I'm supposed to use a hex editor but when I was looking through the rom all I saw was much of muchness. I was expecting to see huge patches of 00 or ff or something so I guess mainly I just don't know what I'm looking for.

As for no pokemon. It doesn't actually crash the program. I've already looked at that. It says you bring out [space] and shows a "?" symbol inside a dot as the pokemons picture. The pokemon has 0 health however and the instant the other pokemon attacks it you faint and get transported back to you're house.
That's why I thought, give the player a masterball and as soon as a pokemon apears you can catch you're first pokemon.

As for the rest of the patch. I'm kinds working the story out as I go. I'm only in this to try and see if I can do something really different that none of the other games look at!

I think once my plot gets going I should be abe to make a decent game out of it. Most of the graphics will stay the same but I want to completely re-haul the plot! And I mean completely!

Ok, That's just the thing. I don't see any patches. Maybe it's just the hex editor I'm using. And when I tell hackman to go to address 80000 it says out of bounds....
Maybe I need a better editor or something :-/

Meanwhile is anybody going to answer the whole 'starting position' question?


And yes. I get it. You think my plot is rather crappy. But then I have no intention of going through the whole plot with you when I'm essentially creating my own plot from scratch that has nothing to do with the original plot! I have only told you the concept, not the story!

Alright. Now I'm getting somewhere. I just downloaded the latest version of advanced map (which is in ENGLISH finally Yaaay!
If I combine this and elitemap together I'll be able to reconstruct the maps and warps without having to manually repoint! Rewriting all the scripts will be a bugger, and same goes for moving around all the peoples in the game. Geeze I hope this works!

Damnit! I'm flumoxed from beging to end.
Mostly I've been trying to figure out how to jimmy the scripts so both players live in the same house. I'd thought by playing with these lines at add: 15FBB9 I'd be able to select which parts of the changes but if I change anything then for some reason stepping off the truck transports you into oldale town? OR worse, occasionally I've got trees!


I have been playing with the map for inside the house but when I changed the sprite map it completely screwed up the pokemon movers and all the boxes so I guess I have to change that back or something! Somebody please help?? I know it has to be possible!

Damn. It looks like I'm going to have to re-write the movement scripts myself. If I simply bypass most of the above and set the warps to take me to the door of the house then I can erase have the scripts in the littleroot map and placed fixed movements that apply for all characters. Then inside the house I delete the character that acts as other trainers mum and work from there. Two doors inside, both closed or with flaps. Select one and it tells you "This is you're room" or "This is "Lala's" room. Only one problem. This means I'm going to have to implement warps manually using #raw... Anyone tell me how that works?

Ah, there is a warp command. That helps.
I think I can figure out this with some work. I have a Q, though. Anyone know the offset for the lists of pokemon. I decided that since the battle info clearly picks up an empty party and displays pokemon '00' there must be a way to repoint pokemon 00 and create my own pokemon. A pokemon that can only be accessed when you don't have any! That's my solution to picking up the first pokemon. From there I simply rename the premiere ball to 'Pokedrone' or something just as silly and create a whole heap of scripts around it to stop a crash!

Alternately I could try to re-assign the area north of the town as pokemon reserve, but I'd prefer to do it my way!

The nudist colony bit is mainly just for fun. I was having a conversation with somebody about how whenever you look up games online no matter what the game there is always a nude patch, then I realised I've never seen a nude patch for pokemon. I thought it would be amusing to make one, but it isn't essential. My plan is to make the base story first (not necessarily in a nudist colony but same basic plot), you're sibling is both trying to mentor you and lead his/her own life which see's them working first for one of the rival gangs on the island and then working their way up to the boss of that gang. Along the way you will be given the option to do things for the other gang and given authority (should you choose to do them) which will end somewhere with sibling vs sibling.

The nudist colony bit is just for fun. I'll work out the basic story first and create the nudist colony as a seconday patch that you can choose to install afterwards.


It was also a good way to get people to look at this thread. Put naked or nude into any title and people will look!

Hang on, not what I'm looking for. I have those numbers from the list of Gameshark codes I had. What I need is the offset for where the list of pokemon is stored in the rom! Although it does prove my point. What I'm effectively trying to do is assign missingno some stats and a name!

btw. While I'm asking q's can someone tell me how to turn objects on and off by script. I can probably find it myself but it would take longer

I wish I had more time out of work to do this in!

A friend of mine was playing with pokepic and tdl. I now have nude pics of may, brendan and professor birch that I can compile into a rom! Tell me if you wan't me to post them here! It's not much fuss to me!

Actually, I don't really know what I'm talking about, I just have the drive to get it done. I've never never EVER programmed gameboy before. I'm combining forces with advancemap and the tools in elitemap (epsecially the script editor) to try and work it out as I go along. I understand the principals of programming cause I've done some C++, Pascall and VB but that was about 10 years ago. And I can tell that programming for gameboy's requires constant checking of a hex editor but I don't actually know where anything is or what I'm looking for. I know that the controls in littleroot for which house you enter is controlled by a set of four scripts on the map (The scripts in the van only set where you come out, and the setflags seam to be about making the arrows flash. ) But these four scripts each cross-corrolate through the same huge sections in different permutations and all of them crash scripted! That means all I can do is delete them and try to re-build them from scratch.

As for the 'catch you're first pokemon' I really don't have a clue how to do it! I really don't want to use the wildlife park flag on the area (I found that in another thread) because it enforces a timelimit for catching you're pokemon. That means if I can't create a missingno pokemon for when you don't have any pokemon then I'll have to somehow 'give' the player a pokemon and then take it away from the player which would probably be easier but (to my mind) a little unfair!

Anyway, I wan't to get these elements sorted because I want to move the 'select a pokemon' object to a point later in my game and it's easier to repoint then to have to re-create or duplicate that scene myself!

Insidentally, I think I've figured out the inside of the house, the outside is the only part causing trouble!

Btw, each scroll over the doorways is a signpost. These connect to my own scripts which include usage of the warp command. I know this involves 3 properties (map set, map, coordinates) mut I don't get the co-ordinates part, How can one byte define an xy position? This is still in the air!

Ok. I don't really know what to say here.
I'm Australian, and a part time security guard, webcomic artist and freelance programmer.... Least I like to think of myself as all those things.

I don't know how often I'll post in this forum. Back last year I had started work on what I had intended to be a major pokemon hack. It was going to be a ruby hack and while I hadn't intended to change graphics much I was going to completely re-do the storyline. I still intend to revive that project but for now my main reason for making this request (I'm sorry to admit) is to advertise the program I made as a result of my attempting to make hacks.

The first fully user configurable script assembly program ever made that doesn't require a hex editor on standby.
At the moment it only has the pokemon command database up on my site but the program can be configured for other games and even other gaming engines.

But I probably shouldn't be taling about that here. I'll make a proper post later once I get aproval just like I'll make a proper post about my pokemon hack.

I'm just exited to have something worthwhile to contribute after such a long haul constructing it!

I'm not sure where I'm supposed to put this as such but here goes.

Back in march 2006 I began my first attempt at hacking pokemon ruby. Instead of focusing of the graphics and text first like many first time hackers do I sttempted to jump into the deep end and while I was fully capable of remaking the maps all nice and functional I was appalled at the lack of friendliness of the script editor rubikon which was intended to edit the sprite scripts display text etc etc.

Is it just me or should no programming language in it's right mind require a hex editor on standby to make it workable?

Well having some experience with programming I set myself a task. Two nights ago the plan came to fruition. A fully function script editing tool that would first compile you're script into memory and then allow you to insert the code into a file at any location without having to provide fixed offsetts. This is literally the script editor * I * would want to use.

Added features:
- Reletive Pointers
- File Associatoins
(including long file name support)
- The ability to re-bunk the script constructs used when compiling (like giveitem)

and the biggest doosy of all :
- The ability for persons knowing the language used in other games (or even other game engines) to create basic text files that can be registered and used in my compiler by following the instructions on my website making it the first assembly program in existence with flexibility in the command database!

Thanks honey for being the first reply. As I said, the intention of this was to make the compiler I would want to use. It's no where near finished yet and there's still much more I hope to do with it but I certainly hope you guys get good use out of it!

UPDATE

Added support for alias message in pkmadv database.
Fixed bug with command 'trainerbattle' in pkmadv database

MAJOR update to main program!
Glitch in #alias command that meant all constructs were not being performed correctly.
(also fined minor problem when reading large values)

FIXED!

0400hrs... I'm going to bed now!
Play with program.. Report back in here!
