Ember Hack Version 1.4

Hi guys, nice site you got here. Anyway I thought I release my Ember hack which contains a brand new Custom CO designed by Tronn Bonne (a warsworldnews member) and other bonus stuff. Enjoy

Click Here to download the IPS Patch Version 1.4

Note: ONLY applie the IPS patch to the US AW2 rom. NOT the Euro AW2 rom.

Also if your US AW2 ROM is NOT clean and freezes after applying patches (and has Yoshi flowers or whatever) then apply this Cleaner Patch first. Then applie the Ember IPS patch

Version 1.0 - IPS Hack released

Version 1.1 - Fixed Drake's COP animation so the wave effect appears and edited Ember's battle sprite

Version 1.2 - Edited some of the translated German theme names

Version 1.3 - Replaced the B in the Intro with a better one by CO Sonic. Mentioned that Ember does not recive the standard defence boost in profile.

Click Here to find out how to apply IPS patches to the AW2 gba rom

Click Here to be view the CCO stats, bio, power quotes etc

Well you will probably wondering what is in the hack. Well the below screenshots
well give you an idea of what the hack contains.

CO Ember Profile

Some of Ember’s alternative Colour Edits

CO Ember in the battlefield

Some of Ember’s Campaign Dialogue

Other pictures of Ember

Three Japanese CO images added from Game Boy Wars 1 and 2

German Theme names translated into English

Xen’s Balanced hack 1.9 changes have been applied

Credits

List of things to edit

Most of the necessary stuff has been edited in the Ember hack which means there is not much really to finish off before the hack is fully complete. The good news is Ember is fully playable but there are just one thing left to do:

1. When you go and listen to Ember’s Theme in the sound room, it plays Hawke’s theme. This can be fixed but Sappy Player 1.1 will not run on my computer. Once I get it working I replace the theme with ‘The World of Marco land’. If anyone knows how to do this then they are welcome to add it themselves and provide an update of the IPS patch. For more details on how to do this, click Here.

Well I hope you enjoy playing the Ember hack. If you see any errors in the hack (not mentioning the one above) then please report them, if possible with a screenshot of the error.

I just wondering is it possibe to add in extra letters into an AW2 (US) gba rom?

So to add letters like é, á, £ etc.

I know we can edit them but it would be more cool if we can add in extra ones.

If the game is translated from Japanese, it's likely that the Japaese character graphics and codepoints were left in. You can then overwrite one of these with your new character. If those characters are 1-byte, so much the better.

I myself went a bit nuts with this when making my Extra Innings 2 translation. I added Ö (Paul Erdos and Kurt Godel), Ü, ñ, Ø (Søren Kierkegaard), Ř (Antonin Dvořak), and then single characters for de, da, van, von, and ibn. There were over 100 kana left unused, leaving plenty of space for innovation!

AW2 = Advance Wars 2. My bad for shorting it.

I never fought of that. I have to hunt though tile editer again to hunt for the Japanease symbols.

The problem is thanks to the 11 September attack on the Twin Towers, AW1 never got released in Japan and nearly got taken off the market in the USA.

When AW2 came out it never got released in Japan. It finally got released in 2004 know which had AW1 and 2 in. Which means AW2 was made in English first.

But In the AW2 I have found refernces to the Japanease COs name e.g. Lash = Cat, Flak = Kong, Andy = Ryo etc. So they might have been made in Japan but they didn't bother releaseing it.

So that might be a sign there's Japnease text in there . *goes to look*

Damn spammers, I now have to write.

I couldn't post in the F-Zero Climax translation topic created by BGNG despite the fact I'm the other hacker working on it. Anyway, time to ask for approval.

My on-line name is RadioShadow and I'm working on 2 hacks.

The first hack is an Advance Wars hack which I call 'AW2 Ember Hack'.

Click here to download the latest patch.

To summarise the hack contains:

- A new Custom CO called Ember (created by Tronn Bonne)
- Brand new War Room maps
- Three Japanese CO images
- All CO's are balanced (fair to play against each other)
- Plus more extras

The second hack I'm working on is translating F-Zero Climax into English. Guy_Perfect (also known as BGNG) and Heian are also working on it to.

At the moment Guy_Perfect ha created a utility to change the Story Lines and Profiles. Click here to download it:

I'm working on editing the graphics while Heian is our translator.

Click on the following links to see what graphics I have edited so far:

http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j161/RadioSonic/F-Zero%20Graphics/

http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j161/RadioSonic/F-Zero%20Anime%20Titles/

I hope I get approval so I can carry on hacking and get other people to help me out. Plus I need to locate Perfect_Guy (BGNG) so I can ask him to update his utility.

That was a long topic I had to type. Now to wait and update my avatar and sig!

OMG! Xen! Hi!

Thanks for this update! It works on my computer and I can fix the music bug in my Ember Hack!

I still got to figure out how to add in your own midi's but you can easy transfer music from other games or the the game itself!

I could in the previous version but it requires something different. I'll see if I can get a screenshot of what I mean.

I think I'll show a few screenshots of the F-Zero Climax GBA Translation Project me and two other people are working on.

The team consists of:

RadioShadow (Me) - The graphics editor
Guy_Perfect - Changes the text in game
Heian - The guy translating the Japanese text

Now for the screenshots:

Took me a little while to change this. Surprisingly, it was a graphic and I liked how this turned out.

The Pilots names are now in English. I need to edit the font slightly know.

Some of Ryu Suzaku graphic names have been changed to Rick Wheeler. That is what he was known as in F-Zero GP Legend.

Control Settings have been changed into English.

10 out of 51 of the anime description's (known as Story Lines in the game) have been translated so far. The titles (which are graphics) were edited by me while the other text font was already located in the rom. Perfect_Guy figured out how to change the text. What I and PG do need help with is changing the VWF.

The Pilots Profiles and Machine data can also be changed as well. However none have been translated. I was bored when inserting text into Lucy Liberty's profile.

That's what has been edited so far. ;D

Srothroc, would you be interested in doing the pilot or machine profiles in F-Zero Climax? (I've already done half of the story, but if you really want to do that, that would be fine too.) FZC is a lot of fun and really deserves to be translated.

RadioShadow contacted me about this -- I wasn't sure about it, since I hadn't heard from you and you were the translator. If one of you e-mails me the raw text, I can translate the machine/pilot profiles. If there are any special requirements, please let me know in the e-mail.

Leave that to me. I'm going to send them as graphics to you.

So they will look like this:

Left side is the text about the Pilot while the right text is about their machine.

Its easier to display them as graphics rather than me typing them.

23/35 are done. I finish the rest off tonight.

Make sure you include Sonic/Shadow

But otherwise good luck.

I never hacked a N64 rom so I can't help much.

Sorry for the bump, but I noticed a problem.

'copies and pasts post from warsworldnews.com'

Right, the new Sappy Player works well for transferring music from GBA roms.

However, I think the Assembler is buggered in 2.0.

I can't get it to work at all. It might need fixing.

So I'm using 1.0.1 which now works on my computer. Only to add in custom theme's mind.

Well almost. I'm trying to replace the 'Victory Fanfare' theme with 'Green Hill midi theme. Every time I click on the 'Assemble' button, a message comes up saying 'No file found'.

WHAT!? What file could not be found?

Help! What am I doing wrong?

I played on one of you older versions of that hack and it was AMAZING! This hack is looking really good. I must go and play the latest one.

Playing as Shadow was so fun, why haven't Sega added him into the 2D world.

^ We are still alive!

I been meaning to send Perfect_Guy an e-mail to ask him to updated his transition model. I sent him a PM but he has not responded to it. I'll get that done tonight.

Heian is doing a brilliant job on translation the story lines. Done 29/51 so far. http://www.mrfixitonline.com/viewtopic.php?t=2628&start=10&sid=230910c30c61f6e53a16897b76a020ac

As for me, I'm working out how to change the font width from 16 x 16 to 8 x 16 (width/height) or add in a VWF but I'm in the process on leaning to ASM hack. Also been slowly editing some more graphics.

The Ember Hack however has been keeping me busy and I totally forgotten to send you the graphic pilots profiles so you could start translating them. I haven't got the all of them in a graphics file let but I send the ones I have done so far to you tonight. I get the rest another time.

I apologise for for sending them so later. Blame the Ember Hack.

Do you mean it can't locate the MPlayDef'.s? Hang on, I think the file is renamed wrong. That could be why.

EDIT: The MPlayDef.s file is named correctly. Just got to fix the header somehow?

Not if you're 56K.

That makes two hacks that'll take forever to watch

How are you playing your hack? I didn't think the ROM could be played on flashcarts, if that's what you did >.>

Damn 56K users. At least the video doesn't play automatically. I find the best way is to play the video, pause it and let the video fully load before watching. I can't do much about that I'm afraid.

To answer you other question, I flashed the hack to a 128MB Turbo GBA Flash card and played it on the Gamecube Game Boy Player. Its nice because Flash cards work on them.

There are usually fixes for that sort of thing. Because pirates like to play games they pirate. yarr.

I know some AW2 US roms have a hacked into on them. But these can be removed by applying a patch. I also know some some don't work when data is changed.

But AW2 works on the GBA flash cards I have previously owned.
