Wow, I am very impressed with this but I am guessing it is very easy to hack the Nintendo 64 version of Mario 64. I only hack the Nintendo DS and I have made too many hacks for Mario 64 DS. One of the popular ones was the Secret level which can be found on my here: http://digg.com/gaming/Super_Mario_64_DS_Test_level_found_buried_in_the_ROM

If you want to add me on MSN, feel free. shirazkhan_172@hotmail.com

stop asking about the release of the editor. VL'll release the editor when he wants. You'll notice by yourself if it has been released or not.
You can ask about the current progress of the editor.

You have a really bad attitude. He was just asking if its out. Theres no need to be rude. Just because VL'll is making the editor doesn't mean he needs to be bumlicked. VL'll is proberly a nice person because he's releasing it, im sure he doesn't like bumlickers, i mean who does?

They are objects and yes they are editable. I don't know if it will be editable with the editor thats about to come out though. Nearly everything is objects but water and the backgrounds are different.

Is there a program where I can view the contents of a N64 rom? I want to view textures and stuff.

Well I don't want to edit textures etc, I just want to view the contents of a N64 rom and want to be able to compile it back into a working rom. Could someone give me directions?

The filesystem trend is probably just to help developers worry less about how to store data, and worry more about the actual data.

If this editor gets released, then the original Super Mario 64 is hacked more then the DS version. We have not been able to edit any files. I haven't even properly made a Nintendo Archive and Compressed Nintendo Archive extractor. These things are important for modifying game data.

If you decompress the data, edit the data, then recompress, ofcourse it will work.
But if you decompress, spoil the data, then recompress, maybe only the intro screen will work depending on which part you have spoiled.

Alright, I might not exactly be a regular here, but you people need to have some respect for your fellow members. Anyone attempting ROM hacking or reverse-engineering is an ally.

People don't dig into eachother like this in homebrew programming communities, and there are more reasons than immature hacks that they see reverse-engineering communities as immature.

Sorry about the off-topic post, but it needs to be said.

Exactly!
This forum has alot of rude people. Like when I told about my Super Mario 64 DS Hacking, they started flaming me. I mean whats their problem, anyway...

What you need to start hacking:

You'll need a Passme and a device that boots commercial ds roms (supercard, m3, some flash cards)

What the supercard and M3 does is the same as a normal flash card except that the roms or files are on a compact flash card which you can plug in in the supercard or m3. This is much quicker to load roms.

The passme allows the supercard or whatever to boot DS CODE. If you don't have a passme, then you are limited to only booting GBA CODE which does not allow you to have touch input, dual screens etc.

Now, I know you guys don't care about dumping roms as no one will so lets take it that you downloaded a DS Rom. Ds roms end with the file extention .NDS and sometimes homebrew code can be .gba.ds but it has to be .NDS.

Now go download a tool called ndstool.exe which can be found at darkfader's site. Now find out how to extract the files by just loading ndstool.exe. Make sure you extract everything. depending on where you extracted it, you can now view the files. Arm9.bin, Arm7.bin and the overlay folder is the codeing of the rom. The data folder contains images etc and NO, they are not in bmp format. Nothing is viewable, so you'll need to hex these things.

Once your finished with it, compile it with ndstool.exe and you should have a new rom

Upload it to your device and it should boot!
