Those characters use Mario's palette, which you can't really change (well, you can, but it would affect the whole game). You'd need to remap the sprites to use a different palette. There have been a few threads with such info, though I don't have the time to look for them right now. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Wow, you guys are dumb!
Ed: sprite editing is still fraught with pitfalls, as some regular sprites will glitch if you change the "unused" sprites. This is because the game still uses the sprite number to retrieve some data, and not just the ASM pointer/flags. You have to do some manual tracing and ASM hacking to fix these problems. |

I have an ancient SVGA monitor that did something similar years ago...I switched video modes, the screen went wobbly, and POP--it died. I tried to turn it back on, but all it would do is make a weird "clunking" noise and flash the LED display on the front panel. Turns out some capacitors had dried up, and I guess the video mode switching just pushed it over the edge. We ended up paying almost $100 to get it fixed. |

I discovered this thanks to an exceedingly rare glitch that causes the bouncing block sprite to disappear prematurely. As for the switch palace corner tile, it seems to have been a last-minute addition to the game, and a very sloppy one at that. It's the very last object in the Extended Objects list (grouped with the vertical level-compatible slopes, also a sloppy fix), its bottom-right 8x8 tile is separate from the others, and it's crammed in with the tileset-specific ledge tiles (so it acts like a ledge). My guess is the switch rooms used to be rectangular, but were later deemed too boring. Or something. Personally, I don't use the invisible block because it DOES count as a sprite, and might disappear if you bring too many enemies on-screen. Mario-only custom blocks are a much better solution. Considering how old the TV is, and how cheap standard-definition TVs have become (you can find basic models for well under $100 now), it's probably a much better idea to go and buy a new one. There's no telling when the next component on that TV will fail... |

When opening .BIN files, you need to manually change the graphics mode to "4BPP SNES". It's in the list box right below the left pane. |

My guess is that your CPU fan is failing. Many new motherboards will beep when the fan's speed drops below a certain threshhold (mine does at ~1000RPM); if it continues for too long, the board will shut down to prevent damage to the CPU.
|
Most motherboards have a fan speed display in the BIOS (or, if you're not comfortable entering the BIOS, the manufacturer will often have a Windows utility or two on their website that does the same thing); I would watch that and see if it fluctuates a lot. A properly working fan should maintain a fairly constant speed. Also, open the computer's case and listen for any odd noises (rattling, buzzing, whining).

If you loved Cave Story, you'll probably love this. To quote the author: Originally posted by The AuthorThough the game's a bit on the short side, and several orders of magnitude easier than Cave Story, it's still a wonderful little platformer (and quite possibly the best thing ever produced with Multimedia Fusion). PLAY NOW OR DIE.

F-PROT Antivirus thinks part of the Java installation package (straight from Sun's website) is a "destructive program".

I can only imagine the chaos that will ensue if LM is ever tagged as a virus...

Holy crap, I think it's the real deal this time!

Shroomy had better remember me, or I will bash his head in with all manner of large, blunt objects until he does! (I mean, uh...'sup ) And, uh...wow, I've been around since the late 20th century, pre-AcmlmBoard. I'm practically a fossil.

Wow.

I live in Spokane, and we got some pretty strong winds over here, but nothing quite like that. So, were you at home (elsewhere in the house, obviously) when that happened?

Your best bet would be to search for the computer's exact model number on Gateway's site (or, failing that, Google), or e-mail their tech support. The majority of pre-built computers (especially from that era) use proprietary motherboard designs, and often can't be upgraded much beyond what they come with, if at all. |

LAAAAAAAADIES AND GENTLEMEN! For the first time ever (unless you're a real old-timer)...a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Legend of the Blob Bros. 2! Not for the faint of heart!
|
MARIO2B.NES (v0.0?) - Nov. 27, 1997 BLOBBRO2.NES (v0.2) - May 21, 1999 BB2DEMO1.NES (v2.0 preview) - May 6, 2000 BLOBBRO2.NES (v2.0 final) - Sep. 20, 2002 I may upload some IPS patches of old versions later (and possibly screenshots from other cancelled Blob Bros. hacks, like the mysterious LotBB1!). For now, enjoy the terrible screenshots, and ask yourself "why in the world did he waste 5 years on that?" (edited by BMF54123 on 02-06-06 04:44 AM)

Just so you guys know, I'm well on my way to making a Yoshi-only hack (actually, Mario's still there, you just have to erase his graphics). There are a number of issues left to work out, though, and the game locks up if Yoshi's mouth touches a berry when he dies. I'm not sure how to fix that.
