And what, pray tell, does this have to do with Gavin's problem?

Gavin: One of my computers did the same thing when its power supply went bad: everything spun up, lights came on, etc., but nothing else. The monitor never came out of sleep mode. Since it's arguably the cheapest (and most failure-prone) component to replace, I would borrow one from somebody (or just buy a cheap one that you can easily return) and try that first. If that fails, you might try looking for small computer shops in your area. They might be able to diagnose the problem for a relatively small fee, and they usually have plenty of components on hand to test with.

Guys, the screenshots are too bright because of a bug in whatever emulator he's using. That's what he said last time, anyway.

Even if the colors WERE correct, though, the screenshots would still look like your usual SMB3-flavored vomit. Bland level design, few enemies, little challenge, you know the drill.

Also, that link in your signature needs to go. Had you actually read the FAQ that pops up when you register, you'd already know that ROM site links are a big no-no.

who knows, maybe i'll drop that into smw one day for the hell of it and you guys will finally be able to do real custom music and sound effects.
Oh my God. If you did that...well...I just don't know what I'd do.

(finish SMO, maybe...?)

It could either be crummy hardware (what brand is it?) or worn-out optics. My original Intellimouse Explorer did the same thing, until I upgraded to a newer hardware revision (and then I stopped buying Microsoft mice altogether because the buttons wear out way too fast).

My current mouse is a Logitech MX310, which has better tracking precision than basic optical mice (and it shows). It's also fully compatible with Microsoft's driver/software suite, so swapping out my Intellimouse was a non-issue. I highly recommend it.

Actually, my code is executed immediately before FuSoYa's, so it wouldn't make any difference at all.

I currently use a combination of XTree Gold (an ancient DOS file-management utility) and Translhextion. I keep XTree around for its no-frills hex editor, which edits files directly on the disk (i.e. no filesize limit) and has a rather speedy search function. It also displays ASCII stuff properly, such as .NFO files, due to its DOS-ish nature. Translhextion handles my everyday hex-editing tasks, but gets really crashy if I switch programs too much, try to open large files, or add/remove too many bytes. I just might have to give XVI32 a shot...

Holy crap, you're right! I didn't know it saved the color maps...

If you're careful about what you download and from where, you shouldn't need a resident virus scanner. All they do is slow down the system and cause problems (which is to be expected when you intercept and pick through every single executable that tries to load). An ordinary once-daily scan should suffice.

Cave Story is the very definition of the bee's knees, but since it doesn't fit your "real company" criteria, I suppose it's out of the question. Too bad!

Little problem there: the green block's shadow is glitched. It can't overlap the edge of another block. Just shrink it by one block horizontally, and you're good to go.

(how did nobody else catch that? )

*sigh*

Distributing ROMs is illegal.
Distributing hacked ROMs is illegal, as they are derivative works of copyrighted data.
Selling them is even MORE illegal.
The last few posts in this thread should be illegal.

Hrmmm. I already have several "no-fly zones" in my hack that take away your cape. Maybe I should just get rid of it altogether, except for special areas...or at least disable flying...

[edit]
Hmm. I'm certain somebody's already found it, but you can disable gliding by changing $5A6D to 9C. When Mario hits the peak of his flight, he'll simply drop into "float" mode. This would at least prevent people from flying over the whole level.

Sorry, guys, but all this is doing is applying the Dino Rhino's animations to the Mini-Rhino's actions. This isn't the fire breath you're looking for.

However, this DOES at least prove that the Dino Rhino's fire-breathing animation still exists in the sprite's code. Perhaps the actual code lies dormant elsewhere?
