Guys, the EXACT SAME COMPLAINTS nine times in a row do not constructive criticism make. Please don't post if you have nothing new to add.

I thought you weren't supposed to run hard drives upside-down like that? Or do newer drives just not care?

Jeez, maybe I'm older than I thought...

Basically, my policy is going to be like so:

Questions answered in either the help file (you may have to do some digging, but it's there), or one of the FAQs/stickied Q&A threads (which we need to keep updating if this is to work): GONE

Questions that have nothing to do with SMW hacking (ex: "how do being upload screenshots?!?!?!"): GONE

StOOpId/utterly non-specific questions (ex: "how to hacking overworld?!?!?!?!"): ka-GONE

Xkeeper is absolutely right...I've pretty much abandoned this forum because it's simply gotten too far out of hand, and bears little to no resemblance to the SMW Hacking I used to know and love. It just sucks what little inspiration I have left right out of me.

I love this game and [most] of the community far too much to just sit and watch it devolve into Pokémon Hacking II, and hopefully most of you are smart enough to realize that's exactly what it's becoming, and are willing to actually DO something about it. Help us help you. Take pride in your community! Stop the insanity!@#$%

This thread really didn't need to be bumped.

That's one of the pitfalls of automatic tile insertion: you can't really control which tiles it overwrites. All you can do is either:

a) insert it manually, tile by tile, and work around the level tiles, or
b) copy the level tiles back to their original positions, and place those background tiles elsewhere.

And yes, it does take a while.

Let's do it right this time, shall we?

1. READ THE STICKIES, ESPECIALLY "THE RULES". You WILL be destroyed if you do not follow the new rules. There are no exceptions. We are fed up with the rampant bullcrap. This is your only warning.

2. The old threads are not gone forever; they can still be found here. Unless it is absolutely vital, DO NOT resurrect your old threads here. That archive is evil. Learn from it, fear it, but DO NOT repeat it, lest ye be nuked again.

3. Threads that fail to follow the new rules are subject to either deletion or eternal torture in the aforementioned SMW Hacking Crap forum (a.k.a. The Archive of Evil). Repeat offenders shall be subject to discipline and ridicule, up to and including SEVERE BANNINATION.

That is all for now. Please enjoy your stay.

Let's just say something got borked during the Great SMW Forum Explosion, and a bunch of threads ended up in here. Yay Xkeeper!

Which is exactly why we decided not to nuke the forum entirely. You can still view the old threads anytime you want, you just can't reply to them (not that we allow bumps like that anyway).

It was moved to the Advanced ROM Hacking forum a long time ago...

Indeed. You all remember what happened last time egos were boosted (or destroyed).

I think it's pretty easy to determine who's an idiot and who's not without a stupid little mark or badge anyway.

It sounds to me like one of the patches is overwriting vital data used by the other (this is exactly why FuSoYa invented the RATS system). There's no way to fix it until we figure out what ROM space is shared between the two.

Anyway...something about that first screenshot that doesn't sit well with me. It seems a little too...boring? Random? Personally, I prefer overworlds with a little more structure to them, with clear indicators of where you'll be going next, or where you could go. Unless you're going for a Forest of Illusion-ish effect there, and you're supposed to feel lost...

Shyguy, that has nothing to do with the topic and you know it. Stop fluffing your post count.

Anyway, being an N64 game and thus very complex, there probably isn't a whole lot of info available. Pardon my ignorance, as I've never played the game, but can you switch characters at all in the final version? If so, I'd imagine you could just change whatever byte(s) holds your current character ID to something beyond the normal range and see what happens. If you don't come up with anything, either there's nothing left over, or you're gonna have to do some digging.

Though I don't have one, I'm guessing iPods don't have a mono/stereo setting, since the vast majority of people use stereo headphones with it. You can always buy a cheap stereo/mono adaptor from Radio Shack if that's the case.
